Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP David Price Sunday, May 29. C Josh Thole will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Blue Jays | No Russell Martin Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 12:59:03 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 24. C Josh Thole is behind the plate and is hitting ninth against New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi.

Fantasy Tip: Thole has become the knuckleballer R.A. Dickey's personal catcher, so don't be alarmed that Martin is out today. Neither catcher has done much with the bat this year, though, so consider Thole one to avoid in all daily formats. He's batting .158 with six hits (one home run) in 38 at-bats.

Wed, 18 May 2016 12:53:12 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup with SP R.A. Dickey on the mound Wednesday, May 18. C Josh Thole is doing the catching and is batting ninth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi.

Fantasy Tip: Thole has become the personal catcher for Dickey, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. Thole has just six hits in his 35 at-bats (.171) and should be avoided everywhere.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin taking a seat

Fri, 13 May 2016 14:35:52 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 13. C Josh Thole is doing the catching and batting ninth against Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez.

Fantasy Tip: Thole has become the personal catcher for Dickey, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. The veteran Martin struggled through a nagging neck injury last month and likely led to his poor start. With Martin stuck in neutral, he's more of a second backstop in two-catcher and AL-only leagues right now. Thole offers little to no fantasy upside for daily gamers.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin out of lineup Saturday

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 11:24:43 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Saturday, April 30. C Josh Thole will bat ninth and start behind the plate.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has been battling occasional stiffness in his neck for the past week and is batting jut .150 with four RBI this season, with 31 strikeouts in 60 at-bats. Thole is 5-for-25 at the plate with a solo home run and should be viewed as nothing more than desperation cap relief for daily fantasy contests.

Blue Jays | Russell Martin out Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 13:22:39 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays C Russell Martin (neck) is out once again Tuesday, April 26, against the Chicago White Sox. C Josh Thole is hitting ninth against White Sox SP Chris Sale.

Fantasy Tip: This is Martin's third straight absence. Daily league owners have an advantage because they can find out whether or not Martin will play. It isn't likely a major issue, but the team doesn't want it to turn into anything serious. Thole has a .308 (4-for-13) average in the last week and is a decent substitute in daily contests.
