Pirates | Starling Marte up to No. 2

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 13:41:12 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte was bumped up to second in the order Saturday, July 25.

Fantasy Tip: Marte ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) loses some luster moving from cleanup to No. 2 now that Aramis Ramirez is in town. He's having a good year, but pass on FantasyScore until his price comes down a bit.

Pirates | Starling Marte returns to action

Sat, 11 Jul 2015 12:43:45 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (oblique) is starting in left field against St. Louis Cardinals SP John Lackey Saturday, July 11, batting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: This will be Marte's ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) first action since he suffered an oblique injury while swinging a bat Sunday, July 5. He had been playing well prior to the injury but FantasyScore owners should avoid using him Saturday, so that he can prove that he is completely healthy.

Pirates | Starling Marte remains out against Cards

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:32:38 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (oblique) is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 10. OF Travis Ishikawa is starting in left field and hitting seventh against St. Louis Cardinals SP Lance Lynn Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Marte ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) last suited up Sunday, July 5, and this will be the fifth consecutive game he has missed. He participated in on-field activities Thursday, July 9, though. Continue to check back for updates on his status. Ishikawa ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has some upside relative to his FantasyScore salary, but he shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a risky source of savings.

FantasyScore players should view Rodriguez as a low-end outfield option Wednesday. Pirates | Starling Marte remains out vs. Friars

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 13:43:05 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (oblique) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 8. OF Sean Rodriguez is playing left field and batting eighth against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: This is the third game Marte ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has missed, and there is a chance the Pirates take the conservative route and hold him out through the All-Star break. Rodriguez ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is a low-end outfield option in all fantasy formats, including FantasyScore. He does see a fleeting boost in value in cavernous mixed and NL-only formats, though.

Pirates | Starling Marte out Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 12:51:17 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (oblique) is not playing Tuesday, July 7, against the San Diego Padres. 1B Sean Rodriguez is playing instead.

Fantasy Tip: Marte ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) is out for the second day in a row but the team doesn't believe he will need a DL stint. Plan accordingly and bench Marte. Rodriguez ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is hitting .133 in the past week and shouldn't be an option, even though he is hitting .500 against Padres starter Tyson Ross.

Pirates | Starling Marte likely to avoid DL

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 14:28:22 -0700

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (side) said he felt better Monday, July 6, than he did Sunday, July 5, and he does not expect to need a stint on the disabled list. Marte also noted the injury does not feel as bad as the strained right oblique injury he dealt with in 2012.

Fantasy Tip: Marte ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) could be sidelined for another game or two, but it is encouraging he is hopeful to avoid the disabled list. FantasyScore players will want to avoid him until he returns to action and proves his health.
