Cowboys | Dez Bryant could be limited in camp

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 11:49:40 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant could see a decreased amount of snaps during training camp this year in an attempt to preserve his good health. According to executive vice president Stephen Jones, it will be important for Bryant and the Cowboys for him not to be "thrown to the wolves" right away.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys are smart in wanting to ease Bryant back into the swing of things. He hadn't participated with the team at all during the offseason, so it will be important to get him back on track. When healthy, Bryant is arguably the best wide receiver in football. He should be drafted as a top-five fantasy wide receiver.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant has been elite

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 12:41:40 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has tallied 5,424 yards and 56 touchdowns on 381 catches over the past five seasons.

Fantasy Tip: That comes down to an average of 76.2 catches, 1,084.8 yards and 11.2 touchdowns per year over that span. In non-PPR scoring leagues, Bryant has finished in the top-five wide receivers in each of the last three seasons. The obvious solution, then, would be to draft him in the top-five wide receivers in fantasy drafts.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant contract update

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 12:13:02 -0700

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's five-year deal is worth $70 million, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys and their fans can breathe easier now that a deal has been agreed upon. Bryant is now the second-highest paid wide receiver in the league, unless Demaryius Thomas signs for more later today. When he's healthy, Bryant is arguably the best receiver in the NFL and should be taken late in the first round or early in the second round of drafts.

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant will receive a five-year contract if the two sides are able to reach an agreement before the deadline. The two sides are believed to be close to an agreement, but nothing has been finalized at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant indicated he would not report for training camp if he did not receive a new deal, so the two sides have worked hard on reach an agreement. Bryant will be an every-week starter this season and should be selected in one of the first two rounds in drafts.

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is moving closer to a long-term deal with the Cowboys, but nothing has been agreed to at this point, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: It appears the two sides are looking to reach an agreement before the deadline. Bryant should be one of the first few receivers selected in drafts this season if he signs a new deal, but his value could be affected if no deal is reached.

Cowboys | Dallas ups offer to Dez Bryant

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 08:25:31 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is more optimistic than ever about signing a long-term deal after the Cowboys increased their offer to more than $13 million per year Wednesday, July 15.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant still has leverage

Tue, 14 Jul 2015 18:19:45 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant won't necessarily lose leverage in his quest for a new contract if Wednesday, July 15's deadline passes without a long-term deal. Bryant could miss games at the start of the season and force the Cowboys to realize his importance. Bryant could then land the deal he has been seeking, while also compensating for the approximately $755,000 per week he would miss out on by sitting.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys don't believe Bryant will actually miss games, while sources close to the wide receiver insist he's serious. Fantasy owners should be hoping one side caves before the heart of draft season.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant offered over $12.8 million

Tue, 14 Jul 2015 16:21:12 -0700

The Dallas Cowboys have made an offer to WR Dez Bryant that is more than the $12.8 million per year he would've earned under the franchise tag. The Cowboys have guaranteed more of the salary as well.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys don't believe Bryant will sit out games, but they are making an effort to get a long-term deal done as well. Bryant is asking for more than Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions but talks are active.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant essential to passing TDs

Tue, 14 Jul 2015 15:14:06 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant was on the field for all but one of his team's passing touchdowns in 2014. The Cowboys have scored just seven passing touchdowns over the last three seasons when Bryant has been off the field.

Fantasy Tip: This is just another example of Bryant's strong bargaining power. Bryant has been on the field for increasing snap totals over that time, and he's one of the most integral members of any passing attack in the league.

NFL | Collusion coming for Broncos, Cowboys?

Tue, 14 Jul 2015 10:41:43 -0700

If Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant and Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas don't sign long-term deals with their teams by the deadline for franchise players to do so Wednesday, July 15, the NFL players' union plans to issue collusion charges against the Cowboys and Broncos, according to a source close to the situation. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told Bryant in a recent conversation that he'd talked with Broncos general manager John Elway about the negotiations, which the union thinks would constitute a violation of the collective bargaining agreement's anti-collusion rules. A success of a collusion claim could entitle the players in question to triple the value of the highest current wide receiver on the market. Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson is currently the highest-paid receiver at roughly $16.2 million per year.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant and Thomas are two of the most talented receivers in the game today, and their fantasy value is likely to remain unchanged heading into the upcoming season. Both wideouts carry WR1 value and are worth considering late in Round 1 or early in Round 2.

Cowboys | Stephen Jones denies Dez Bryant threat

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 10:14:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has not communicated to executive vice president Stephen Jones that he is willing to sit out training camp and regular season games if he does not receive a new deal, according to Jones.

Fantasy Tip: There have been reports over the last several weeks that Bryant is willing to sit out during the regular season if no long-term deal is reached. Owners will need to keep an eye out this week to see if the two sides can reach an agreement before the deadline. Bryant should be selected in one of the first few rounds of drafts this season if he reports for Week 1, but his value will take a hit if he decides to hold out.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant talks going slow

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 10:12:22 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's representatives have had only one face-to-face meeting with the Cowboys this offseason, and the two sides have exchanged contract proposals once during that span.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant wants a long-term deal and appears to be willing to sit out for an extended period of time if he does not receive one. Owners will need to monitor the situation since his value would be affected by a holdout. He should be one of the first receivers selected if he plays the entire season.

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 08:41:01 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant called executive vice president Stephen Jones to say that he won't attend training camp and will miss real games unless he signs a long-term deal by Wednesday, July 15, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: It could always be smoke and mirrors, but this is the first hint we've received that Bryant could actually miss games. Bryant is a first-round pick in most formats, so keep a close eye on this situation.

Cowboys | Dallas dismisses collusion talk

Sat, 11 Jul 2015 14:03:34 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant and Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas' contract situations are under investigation by the NFL to determine whether the two teams colluded. A Cowboys source said "there's nothing to it," when asked about the investigation.

Fantasy Tip: Neither player is expected to hold out right now. Both are studs at the wide receiver position, and it would take something drastic for them to fall out of the first two rounds of traditional drafts.

NFL | NFLPA investigating Dallas, Denver

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 14:04:53 -0700

The NFL Players Association is investigating the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos about possible collusion involving WR Dez Bryant and WR Demaryius Thomas. The NFLPA believes the Cowboys and Broncos talked about their unsigned wide receivers, which is not allowed in the collective bargaining agreement. They are trying to determine if collusion occurred and if they will file a claim.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant and Thomas have less than a week to sign long-term deals before the deadline. It is not known if either player will hold out during training camp but both should be ready for the season. Bryant and Thomas are two of the top fantasy receivers available and should be selected in one of the first few rounds of drafts.

Cowboys | No deal imminent for Dez Bryant

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 10:45:21 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has not had a lot of contract talks with the team and there is no deal imminent at this point, according to a source. The team has until July 15 to sign Bryant to a long-term contract extension.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant skipped most of the offseason workouts because of his contract situation and could sit out training camp if he does not sign a new deal. Bryant should be one of the first receivers selected in drafts this season, but owners should monitor the situation since his value would be affected if he decides to hold out.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant deal done soon?

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 14:28:48 -0700

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's long-term deal could be done as soon as the middle of the week, according to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com.

Fantasy Tip: There have been encouraging signs recently that seem to indicate Bryant's deal is a matter of when, not if. He's arguably the most dominant receiver in the NFL, but has not practiced with the team at all this offseason. It sounds like the deal should be completed before training camp, however. Bryant is a candidate for the No. 1 fantasy wide receiver this year.

Cowboys | Tony Romo talks Dez Bryant deal

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 12:37:31 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's impending long-term deal is taking a while to get done, but QB Tony Romo believes it will work out. Romo said the NFL is a business, and that Bryant's absence during the offseason is part of that business aspect. However, Romo said he thinks a deal will work out.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant has until Wednesday, July 15 to get a long-term deal done, and there has supposedly been more positivity involved in the talks between both parties. It would be a shock to most if a deal didn't get done eventually and if Bryant actually held out. Assuming he does sign and is ready for Week 1, he should be drafted as a top-five fantasy wide receiver.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant bluffing?

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 19:05:13 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has threatened to miss games if he does not receive a long-term deal, but the Cowboys are not budging on their original offers because they believe Bryant is bluffing.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant is one of several top receivers that are looking for long-term deals, and nobody wants to be the first to sign. When all is said and done, expect Bryant to be on the field for Week 1. He should be one of the first receivers off the board in fantasy drafts.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant deal coming soon?

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 11:39:09 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant impending long-term deal may be announced after the July 4 weekend, according to Mike Fisher of CBS Dallas-Fort Worth. The comfort level in the negotiation process has supposedly increased of late. Both sides have until Wednesday, July 15, to agree on a long-term deal.

Fantasy Tip: This is certainly encouraging news since the previous reports of there being no progress in the contract talks. A holdout now seems highly unlikely. All Bryant needs to do now is sign the contract and stay healthy. He should be drafted as a top-five fantasy wide receiver with added value in point-per-reception leagues.

Cowboys | No progress in Dez Bryant talks

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 09:43:50 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has had no progress in contract talks with the team, according to sources. The Cowboys are not budging off their offer of a long-term deal with $20 million guaranteed initially and more guarantees later. The team believes Bryant is bluffing about missing a game or two in a holdout. The team also believes Bryant has financial issues and needs the money, according to the sources.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant is a first-round pick consideration universally. It still appears his holdout won't drag out into the regular season.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant's agent meets with 'Boys

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 13:25:22 -0700

The agent for Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant met face-to-face with the team for the first time in nearly four months, per sources. Bryant hasn't yet signed his $12.823 million franchise tender, and he has a deadline of July 15 to agree to a long-term deal. After that date Bryant will need to play out the season under the tender and the two sides could discuss an extension after the season.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant's side has threatened to miss games in 2015, but the Cowboys don't believe it, as it would cost Bryant $754,000 per week. Owner Jerry Jones fully expects Bryant to be in the lineup for Week 1 against the New York Giants, and fantasy owners should be drafting as though that will be the case.

Cowboys | Owner expects Dez Bryant to play Week 1

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 15:07:51 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is expected to play Week 1 with or without a long-term contract, according to owner Jerry Jones. Jones said he knows how competitive Bryant is and how much he wants to support his teammates. Jones even believes Bryant will be with the team for training camp in late July. Bryant has until July 15 to sign a long-term deal.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps this is a subtle message from Jones to Bryant. Bryant won't be required to show up for training camp if he still hasn't signed his franchise tender once it starts. Stay tuned to this situation leading up to the deadline and beyond.

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is expected to play in the regular season opener, according to owner Jerry Jones.

Cowboys | HC not worried about Dez Bryant

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 16:04:30 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's threat to sit out of regular season games if he doesn't receive a long-term extension doesn't have head coach Jason Garrett worried. "It doesn't concern me one bit," Garrett said. "Dez loves football. He has a great passion for the game. He wants to be a great player. He wants our team to be great. He's been working every day to do that and we'll take care of the business as we go."

Fantasy Tip: Again, there have been no talks ongoing between Bryant and the team on a new extension. Bryant is not attending mandatory minicamp, but will not be fined for doing so as he has not signed his franchise tender. As long as Bryant doesn't hold out or get injured, he's a perennial WR1 in fantasy football.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant not in talks with Dallas

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 12:13:58 -0700

Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is willing to miss more than just the regular season opener if he does not receive a long-term contract extension. There are no talks between the two sides at this juncture.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant sounds serious about missing games that count if the Cowboys don't give him an extension. This situation still has a lot of time to play out either way. If Bryant plays the full season, he could finish as fantasy football's top wide receiver.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant will skip minicamp

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 13:36:13 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant will not show up for mandatory minicamp Tuesday, June 16, as he awaits a long-term deal.

Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't be a huge surprise, as Bryant has even threatened to skip the start of the regular season if he doesn't receive a new deal. While there is still plenty of time for a new deal to get done and for Bryant to end his holdout, it's not promising that he's willing to miss minicamp and has considered skipping Week 1. At this point, we'll assume he laces up, in which case he should be drafted as a high-end WR1.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant to skip Week 1?

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 12:21:01 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is considering skipping the regular season opener if he does not receive a long-term deal by July 15, according to sources. Bryant has not signed his franchise tender at this point and has until July 15 to sign a multi-year deal with the Cowboys. It is believed the team has not offered Bryant a new deal since before the 2014 season.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor the situation since Bryant could continue his holdout for a while. The two sides likely will spend the next few weeks working on a new deal. Bryant should be one of the first receivers selected in drafts this season, and his value probably will not take a big hit if he misses one week.

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has not participated in organized team activities lately, according to head coach Jason Garrett. Garrett said he is not sure if Bryant will report next week.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant does not need to participate in offseason workouts since he has a good understanding of the offense but is looking for a new contract. Bryant should report when training camp begins and is one of the top wide receivers in fantasy drafts this season.

Cowboys | DAL not pressed for Dez Bryant deal

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 16:12:38 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant hasn't participated in organized team activities this week, but he could show up next week, or at veteran's minicamp the week after that. Bryant did make an appearance at last week's session, in which he did some individual drills. Bryant has also occasionally visited the team's Valley Ranch training complex to chat with head coach Jason Garrett and to lift weights. Vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday, June 3, he'd like to get a deal done, but it's not the end of the world if Bryant plays out the season under the $12.8 million franchise tag.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant is a top five wide receiver and his dynasty owners would love to see him locked into the situation that allowed him to catch 93 balls for 1,233 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. In re-draft leagues, the extra motivation of securing a new contract could only be considered a good thing for Bryant.

Thu, 28 May 2015 20:26:44 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant showed up to OTAs Thursday, May 28, and participated in individual drills but didn't do any group work.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant is posturing for a new deal, but his status for the regular season isn't in doubt. Regardless of where his contract situation stands, he should be one of the first receivers off the board and a regular starter at FantasyScore in 2015.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant missed at OTAs

Thu, 28 May 2015 15:41:19 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has not been present for the first two days of organized team activities as he continues to wait for a long-term deal. Bryant has yet to sign the franchise tag that was placed on him this offseason. Bryant has been to the Cowboys' facility this offseason, but has stayed away from the team as he waits for a new deal. He is expected to be absent until the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant should still be ready for the start of the regular season, whether he receives a new long-term deal or not, which seems unlikely at this point. Bryant is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL and in fantasy football when he's at his best. He should be taken in the first or second round of fantasy drafts this year.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant not at OTAs

Tue, 26 May 2015 12:05:21 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant was not present for the first day of organized team activities Tuesday, May 26. The workouts are voluntary.

Fantasy Tip: This could be Bryant's way of voicing his displeasure with the organization for not signing him to a long-term deal this offseason. If he were skipping mandatory workouts this would be bigger news, but at least they're voluntary. As long as Bryant shows up for the regular season and is healthy, he's a candidate for the No. 1 overall fantasy wide receiver.

NFL | Potential 2016 free-agent WR class stout

Wed, 20 May 2015 09:28:45 -0700

The upcoming group of potential free-agent wide receivers includes four of the positions most dominant players, including Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant, Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas, Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green and Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones, according to Spotrac.com. All four players are engaging in contract discussions on some level with their current teams.

Fantasy Tip: While it looks impressive on paper, the reality of any of these guys hitting the open market seems extremely low, let alone the idea of all four of them at the same time. Nevertheless, each one has something extra to play for in 2015, which only helps their fantasy value, all things being equal. Each player makes for a fine WR1 to build a fantasy team around.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant attends offseason program

Mon, 18 May 2015 10:11:37 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is participating in the strength and conditioning program, despite being at odds with the Cowboys regarding his current contract. "I wanted to be here for my teammates," Bryant said. "In the past two years that locker room has changed. There is something special in there." If Bryant isn't given a long-term deal, he may not practice with the team until late July when training camp begins.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant will play for the Cowboys this year; it's just a matter of how much money he'll be making and for how long. When healthy, Bryant is one of the few receivers who can be considered No. 1 overall at the position. He's worth a late first-round pick or an early second-round pick in fantasy drafts.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant's contract about risk

Wed, 13 May 2015 17:03:28 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant isn't appearing likely to receive the long-term deal he wants from the Cowboys this offseason. Even if the Cowboys are able to agree on the financial terms with Bryant, the wide receiver will need to agree to some type of off-the-field structure designed to limit his risk.

Fantasy Tip: If anything, playing under the franchise tag is a positive for Bryant's fantasy value. Bryant will continue to seek a long-term contract, possibly leading to superior play on the field. Bryant will enter the 2015 season as a top-five receiver, with top three-upside.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant to return punts?

Mon, 11 May 2015 11:27:58 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant may return punts in 2015, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones. With the loss of former WR Dwayne Harris, the Cowboys are in need of a new punt returner. Jones said that WR Cole Beasley will probably be the first option, but that Bryant could also be used since he returned punts in college and has done so in his professional career.

Fantasy Tip: It would be somewhat surprising to see Bryant play a lot on special teams with how valuable he is on offense. Whoever does the returning will have added value in leagues that score returns.

Cowboys | Other WRs affecting Dez Bryant contract

Sun, 10 May 2015 20:03:29 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's contract talks have been slowed by more than just issues between Bryant and the Cowboys, executive vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday, May 6. "I think a lot people want to naturally assume it's a Dez Bryant-Cowboy issue," Jones said. "I think it's a bigger issue than that right now. There's three or four young receivers in this league other than Dez that are going to be looking for long term contracts."

Fantasy Tip: Players like A.J. Green, Demaryius Thomas and Julio Jones all looking for new deals, as well, and it is understandable that Bryant would want the market for young receivers to be somewhat set before he agrees on a dollar amount for his new deal. Despite the off-field distractions, there is no reason Bryant shouldn't be one of the first receivers taken in fantasy drafts.
