Cleveland Indians bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. will remain with the team and serve as the bench coach next season. Manager Terry Francona also hired former Houston Astros manager Bradley Mills as the team's third base coach. Mike Sarbaugh, who managed Triple-A Columbus the last three years, will serve as the first base coach.

Former Cleveland Indians C Sandy Alomar Jr. has accepted a spot on manager Terry Francona's staff for 2013. However, Alomar might still be a candidate for another manager position elsewhere this winter. Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said former Houston Astros manager Bradley Mills is also a candidate to join Francona's staff. Hitting coach Bruce Fields and third base coach Steve Smith will not be back with the Indians for the 2013 season. It is still unclear whether pitching coach Ruben Niebla, bullpen coach Dave Miller or first base coach Tom Wiedenbauer will be back with Cleveland next season.

The Houston Astros named Tony DeFrancesco as their interim manager after dismissing manager Bradley Mills Saturday, Aug. 18. DeFrancesco was managing Triple-A Oklahoma City. General manager Jeff Luhnow will spend the next few weeks searching for a full-time replacement. Houston already has four or five names in mind, and they're hoping to have a new candidate in place by Nov. 1. Minor league hitting coordinator Ty Van Burkleo was named as the interim hitting coach and Dan Radison will be the interim first base coach.
