St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran (rib) is being listed as day-to-day with a right rib contusion that he suffered in Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday, Oct. 23. X-rays were negative. OF Jon Jay took over in center field and OF Shane Robinson shifted from center to right field.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Shane Robinson has earned more playing time with his play recently, but manager Mike Matheny has stopped short of saying Robinson is in a platoon arrangement with OF Jon Jay in center field.
Fantasy Tip: Take notice in NL-only leagues if Robinson begins to play over Jay more often. This obviously drops the already limited value of Jay in deep mixed formats.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay has only two hits in his last 37 at-bats. Right-handed-hitting OF Shane Robinson drew the start in center field on Tuesday, June 4, against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Tyler Skaggs, a left-hander.
Fantasy Tip: Jay seemed to turn things around in early May following some adjustments at the dish, but another skid has dropped his average to .238, after it had reached .286 just a couple of weeks ago. If this goes on for another couple of months, the Cards may be tempted to try alternatives. They could move Allen Craig to the outfield and get Matt Adams into the lineup regularly, or they could even call up Oscar Taveras, assuming that the top prospect is healthy.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay went 1-for-3 and had two RBIs Wednesday, May 8, and hit .500 (10-for-20) with a home run and eight RBIs on the team's road trip. He was even moved up to sixth in the order Wednesday at the expense of struggling 3B David Freese.
Fantasy Tip: Jay's mechanical adjustments seem to be paying immediate dividends for him at the plate. When Jay is swinging the bat well, he should be owned in most mixed leagues. If he's available, consider picking him back up while he's feeling comfortable.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs in a victory Saturday, May 4, which marked his third straight multi-hit game. Jay has raised his average from .204 to .243 and has looked "relaxed" and "smooth" at the plate recently, according to OF Carlos Beltran. "He made some pretty big overhauls to his swing," manager Mike Matheny said. "He has been working hard to find that rhythm. It's not just simplifying – the ball sounds different coming off his bat."
Jay previously had a timing mechanism at the plate that involved several hand pumps, but he became too anxious with them at times, which threw off his timing significantly. His bat started to flatten over his back shoulder and his hands came closer to his chest during his slump. A downward loop had been created with his hands that left his swing slow and long. Jay worked with the coaching staff to move his hands away from his body, raised his bat perpendicular to his shoulder and made his swing more direct.
Fantasy Tip: You'll likely find Jay's name on many a mixed league waiver wire still because of his slow start. With a retooled approach, however, he has shown signs of life and should be considered for a waiver wire acquisition if you're searching for outfield depth.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay is sitting the bench for the second straight day Wednesday, April 24, and he's focused on working on his timing at the plate to fix his offensive struggles. He's hitting only .197 with 17 strikeouts and just three walks and hasn't been able to find any rhythm at the plate.
Fantasy Tip: Jay remains the team's starting center fielder, but manager Mike Matheny is giving him some needed rest to clear his head and work on his mechanics. Shane Robinson is benefitting for the time being, but he's not an option for mixed leagues. Be patient with Jay if you have the roster space.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay is sitting in favor of OF Shane Robinson Tuesday, April 23. Jay went 0-for-4 Monday, April 22, and he's hitting only .197 on the season.
Fantasy Tip: Jay is slumping lately, but it's still early. Don't jump to conclusions and add Robinson. However, you may want to follow suit with St. Louis and keep Jay on your bench until he can get going.
