San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay (forearm) will be examined Monday, June 27, to see if a trip to the disabled list is necessary, manager Andy Green said Friday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Travis Jankowski should continue to start in place of Jay, and he makes a decent DFS flier as long as he occupies the leadoff spot.

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 12:36:31 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Travis Jankowski is starting in center field and leading off against Baltimore Orioles SP Ubaldo Jimenez Wednesday, June 22. OF Jon Jay (forearm) is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski has a career .616 OPS through 166 plate appearances and checks out as nothing more than a desperation flier in daily contests Wednesday. Jay has been sneaky productive in cavernous mixed and NL-only setups, so check back for updates on his status. He is currently considered day-to-day with the forearm injury.

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 15:47:05 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay (forearm) is considered day-to-day because of a forearm bruise and will be reevaluated Wednesday, June 22, according to manager Andy Green. Jay underwent X-rays on his forearm, but they came back negative.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that Jay probably will only miss a few days because of the injury, but owners should monitor the situation. Travis Jankowski probably will be in the lineup while Jay is sidelined but is not a strong fantasy option.

Padres | Jon Jay keeps setting the table

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 23:25:47 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI against the Washington Nationals on Friday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: With those three hits, Jay is now batting .367 (25-for-68) in the month of June and has scored 13 times, which is top 10 in the National League. Jay actually leads the NL in doubles, but the phrase "warning track power" may have been invented for him as he has only two home runs. Jay is a definite starter in NL-only leagues and could at least have some short-term appeal in deeper mixed setups while he's hot.

Padres | Three San Diego regulars resting

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 14:57:16 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay, C Derek Norris and SS Alexei Ramirez are not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 16. OF Travis Jankowski is starting in center field and hitting leadoff, C Christian Bethancourt is catching and batting seventh and 2B Alexi Amarista is at the 6 and is hitting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Tanner Roark.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski has the favorable lineup spot setting the table, but he's a light hitter and hasn't translated his speed to much success on the base paths (five steals in eight attempts). He's still more of a low-end outfield pick as a deep sleeper. Bethancourt has some power but remains inconsistent offensively, and Amarista carries very little fantasy allure because of limited power and speed.

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 02:48:30 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay had a career-high five hits in a 16-13 loss to the Seattle Mariners Thursday, June 2, finishing 5-for-6 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

Fantasy Tip: Jay has nine hits in his last two games, raising his average to .301. Unfortunately, his complete lack of production in other offensive categories limits his value to NL-only leagues.
