Cardinals | Jon Jay gaining strength

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 15:49:12 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) is gaining strength during his rehab, according to manager Mike Matheny. However, Matheny said the team doesn't have a timetable on his return.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap), who is hitting just .223 (37-for-166) with a home run and 10 RBI on the year, is unlikely to have anything more than a bench or pinch-hitting role upon his return now that Matt Holliday (quadriceps) is back from the DL. Only own Jay in deeper NL-only formats.

Cardinals | Jon Jay placed on the disabled list

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 13:09:51 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) was placed on the disabled list Thursday, July 2, with a stress fracture and bone bruise on his left wrist.

Fantasy Tip: Peter Bourjos ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) projects to grab the majority of starts with Jay and Matt Holliday both out. In the short term, Bourjos has fleeting value in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, and those in need of speed, could take a speculative flier on him in deep mixed leagues, too.

Cardinals | Peter Bourjos at leadoff

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 15:19:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Peter Bourjos is starting in center field and hitting leadoff against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Tuesday, June 30. OF Jon Jay is on the bench against the left-handed hurler.

Fantasy Tip: Bourjos ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) will benefit from more at-bats in the leadoff spot. Unfortunately, he only has six hits in 27 at-bats in June and is mainly useful for daily gamers because of his speed. He's also only hitting .237 (9-for-38) against left-handers this season, and Sale is among one of the toughest he'll face.

Cardinals | Peter Bourjos starting against Phillies

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 13:08:47 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Peter Bourjos is starting in center field and batting eighth in the order Saturday, June 20, against the Philadelphia Phillies and RHP Phillippe Aumont. OF Jon Jay comes out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Bourjos ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) had gone 1-for-3 with a double in back-to-back games before being held hitless Thursday, June 18. Bourjos is hitting .261 against right-handed pitching this season, but he doesn't have much of an upside on FantasyScore. Owners can do better in this price range.

Cardinals | Jon Jay makes start vs. Royals

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 14:44:20 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay is starting in center field and hitting eighth against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) only has one home run total this year and is pretty boring when it comes to daily gaming. A spot at the bottom of the order also doesn't make him any more attractive at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Jon Jay starting in left field

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 16:25:17 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay will start in left field and hit seventh in the order Tuesday, June 9, against the Colorado Rockies. Jay is replacing OF Matt Holliday (quadriceps).

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is hitting just .222 against lefties for the season, so he can be avoided against LHP Jorge De La Rosa, even at Coors Field. Jay gets the first crack to be Holliday's real-life replacement in left field, but he won't hold much fantasy value in anything other than NL-only leagues.

Cardinals | Jon Jay starting in CF

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 15:53:36 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay is starting in center field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Carlos Frias Thursday, June 4.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) doesn't arouse much fantasy excitement on FantasyScore, especially when he's hitting at the bottom of the order. However, lefty bats have a .950 OPS against Frias this year, meaning Jay could be worth a look as a deep sleeper.

Cardinals | Jon Jay starting in CF

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 13:22:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay is starting in center field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Milwaukee Brewers SP Mike Fiers Monday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) will struggle to find playing time between Peter Bourjos and Randal Grichuk, and his speed and power abilities don't really stand out. Hitting at the bottom of the order really limits Jay's FantasyScore ceiling. He's a low-end outfield option.

Cardinals | Jon Jay activated from disabled list

Fri, 29 May 2015 16:15:00 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday, May 29.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) to enter into some form of an outfield shuffle with Randal Grichuk ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) and Peter Bourjos ($2,300, 4.6% of cap), but it is likely Jay earns the majority of starts. Jay started slow this season (.248 batting average), but from 2012-2014, he posted a .293 batting average. He is a low-end outfield option in the majority of mixed formats, and FantasyScore players should view Jay as a low-priced flier best utilized in favorable pitching matchups.

Cardinals | Jon Jay expected off DL

Thu, 28 May 2015 12:55:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (wrist) is expected off the 15-day disabled list on Friday, May 29. RP Miguel Socolovich was optioned to Triple-A Memphis to create a roster spot.

Fantasy Tip: Jay ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) will likely see more playing time with players like Matt Adams on the shelf for an extended period. He is worth activating in matchup situations.
