Padres | Jon Jay has good history against Cueto

Mon, 23 May 2016 15:44:55 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay is hitting .346 with two home runs and five RBI in 26 at-bats in the last five years against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto, who faces the Padres Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Jay makes good contact and gets on base at a solid clip for the Friars, but he doesn't have much power and rarely runs. That gives him a low ceiling for daily gamers, despite his good numbers against Cueto in recent history. Jay is a lukewarm option in DFS tonight.

Padres | Jon Jay returns from injury

Thu, 19 May 2016 15:02:07 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay (shoulder) is back in the starting lineup and in his usual leadoff spot against San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija Thursday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Jay has been solid for the Friars in the leadoff position with a .278 average and .338 on-base percentage, but his mediocrity in the counting stats don't really endear him to fantasy owners aside from in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. He's not much to look at in daily leagues, either.

Padres | Jon Jay remains sidelined

Wed, 18 May 2016 14:53:45 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay (shoulder) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, May 18. OF Travis Jankowski is starting in center field again and is hitting leadoff against San Francisco Giants SP Johnny Cueto.

Fantasy Tip: Jay's injury isn't believed to be serious, so he could be back at leadoff any day now. He has very little power but makes good contact and reaches base often with a .280/.340/.371 slash line. That can help for depth in deeper leagues. Jankowski is a scrappy left-hander that has nice speed, but that's about it. Hitting leadoff increases his daily value, but he's still a low-end deep sleeper against Cueto tonight.

Padres | Wil Myers back, Jon Jay out

Tue, 17 May 2016 17:09:22 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres OF Wil Myers (forearm) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting leadoff against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Tuesday, May 17, with OF Jon Jay (shoulder) out again. Manager Andy Green is hopeful Jay will avoid a stint on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: While hitting leadoff might hurt Myers' value in daily games without the opportunities to drive in as many runs, he should immediately be returned to lineups in seasonal leagues. If Jay lands on the DL, Travis Jankowski would likely start most of the games in center, but he's only a candidate for addition in cavernous mixed and NL leagues for his speed.

Padres | Jon Jay, Brett Wallace sitting

Tue, 17 May 2016 16:09:21 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay and 1B Brett Wallace are not in the starting lineup against San Francisco Giants left-handed SP Madison Bumgarner Tuesday, May 17. OF Travis Jankowski is starting in center field and hitting ninth, while 3B Adam Rosales is at the hot corner and is batting sixth. Also, 1B Wil Myers moves to the leadoff spot and OF Melvin Upton Jr. is hitting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: We can't recommend Jankowski or Rosales as deep sleeper picks in daily formats while facing the MadBum. Myers loses a little daily value, as well, hitting leadoff without the opportunity to drive in as many runs. Upton is a more of a sleeper option if you're feeling lucky in a tough matchup.

Padres | Jon Jay sitting out

Sun, 15 May 2016 09:38:52 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay is not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Zach Davies Sunday, May 15. OF Travis Jankowski will start in center field and is batting first in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski has not received many starts this season and his hitting only .111 this month. Owners should avoid Jankowski and use other players in their lineups.

Padres | Jon Jay has the day off

Sat, 14 May 2016 14:06:31 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay is out of the lineup Saturday, May 14, with OF Travis Jankowski leading off in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski is 5-for-20 (.250) with three steals. Wily Peralta has been brutal this season, so the matchup is nice. Jankowski just doesn't present a ton of upside for a DFS play.

Padres | Three Padres sit Game 1

Wed, 11 May 2016 08:09:08 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexei Ramirez (hamstring), OF Jon Jay and OF Melvin Upton Jr. are out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11, in the first game of a doubleheader. OF Travis Jankowski is leading off, OF Alex Dickerson is hitting sixth and SS Adam Rosales is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Dickerson has a homer and four RBI in six at-bats this season, and he's worth a basement flyer against Kyle Hendricks. Jankowski and Rosales aren't worth consideration.

Padres | Jon Jay heating up

Mon, 09 May 2016 16:36:35 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay has hit safely in 17 of his last 20 games out of the leadoff spot, and he hit .370 with a .393 on-base percentage in the last homestand.

Fantasy Tip: Jay has his average up to .283 but has only one home run and 13 RBI. He's a decent source of average and runs in deep mixed and NL-only leagues, but he won't be a huge boost to your counting stats in the other categories, especially on a weak-hitting Padres squad.

Padres | Jon Jay produces at plate

Sat, 07 May 2016 05:43:13 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay went 3-for-4 with one RBI against the New York Mets Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Jay has gone 7-for-23 with RBI so far this month and has at least one hit in nine of his last 11 games. Jay is an everyday player for the Padres and should be a fine starting candidate in daily fantasy leagues.
