Yankees | Ivan Nova seeking second opinion

Wed, 23 Apr 2014 13:30:03 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) is seeking a second opinion on his partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. The MRI performed on the elbow will be sent to Dr. James Andrews.

Fantasy Tip: It's becoming likelier, especially after the first recommendation, that Nova will have to undergo Tommy John surgery. Vidal Nuno has the Yanks' No. 5 gig right now.

Yankees | Surgery recommended for Ivan Nova

Tue, 22 Apr 2014 13:09:15 -0700

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova (elbow) underwent an MRI arthrogram Tuesday, April 22, and the original results of a partial tear of the right ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow were confirmed. Surgery has been recommended.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Nova's 2014 season is all but officially over. He'll likely need the Tommy John procedure, which will keep him out up to a year. Vidal Nuno has taken Nova's rotation spot for now, but he could run with it. Nuno's value increases greatly in AL-only leagues.

Nova will return to New York to be examined Monday, April 21. Tommy John surgery is a possibility, but the Yankees will look at the chance the injury can be rehabbed first.

Yankees | Ivan Nova efficient in spring outing

Mon, 03 Mar 2014 18:20:06 -0800

New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova said Monday, March 3, one of his goals at the beginning of spring training was to be more consistent. He threw 31 of his 35 pitches for strikes in his Grapefruit League start against the Washington Nationals, walking none and striking out four. He was so economical, he had to go to the bullpen after he'd been removed from the game to throw about 10 more pitches. "It was a great curveball. It's a great 12-to-6," C Brian McCann said. "When he's throwing that for strikes and working down in the zone with that two-seamer, his stuff is as good as it gets."
