Padres | Everth Cabrera to DL

Tue, 12 Aug 2014 12:55:14 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Everth Cabrera (hamstring) was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, Aug. 12, with a strained left hamstring. In a corresponding move OF Jacob Goebbert was recalled.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera is worth stashing in NL-only leagues and some deep mixed formats. This will be his second visit to the DL this season with a left hamstring injury. Alexi Amarista stands to gain additional playing time and added value in NL-only leagues. Check back for updates on the severity of Cabrera's hamstring injury.

Padres | Rymer Liriano debuting, Everth Cabrera out

Mon, 11 Aug 2014 14:44:53 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Rymer Liriano is making his major league debut batting seventh and starting in right field Monday, Aug. 11. SS Everth Cabrera (hamstring) is out of the lineup, with INF Alexi Amarista starting at the 6.

Fantasy Tip: Liriano, one of the team's top young prospects, is finally past Tommy John surgery. He's a very talented outfielder that has a nice combination of power and speed, which should play nicely at PETCO Park. It's unlikely the Padres called him up to sit the bench, so look to acquire him in all NL-only leagues. He's worth a flier in a deep mixed league for his speed.

Padres | Everth Cabrera heading to DL

Wed, 02 Jul 2014 09:52:09 -0700

The San Diego Padres will place SS Everth Cabrera (hamstring) on the disabled list Wednesday, July 2, and will bring up INF Brooks Conrad from the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Cabrera has had a pretty dismal season, as he's hitting only .218 with 13 stolen bases around the halfway point. Don't feel the need to hang onto him in mixed leagues. Conrad will provide infield depth. Alexi Amarista is expected to start at shortstop for the time being, with Irving Falu at the keystone. Amarista's best asset is his speed, so look to add him if you seek stolen bases in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Padres | DL decision on Everth Cabrera to wait

Tue, 01 Jul 2014 16:27:59 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Everth Cabrera (hamstring) won't find out if he has to go on the disabled list until Friday, July 4. Cabrera is dealing with a strain of his left hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Hamstring strains, especially for players that rely on their legs like Cabrera, can be debilitating. The DL is a very real possibility here, so prepare for the worst if you own Cabrera. Alexi Amarista will likely see the bulk of playing time at shortstop with Cabrera out.

Padres | Chase Headley hoping to return soon

Sun, 22 Jun 2014 10:11:02 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (back, leg) revealed that he has been bothered by back and leg pain for the last month caused by a herniated disc. He is optimistic that he can return to the lineup in a few days but said no concrete timetable exists for treatment.

Fantasy Tip: INFs Alexi Amarista and Jace Peterson will split time between second base and third base until Headley returns to action. Cs Yasmani Grandal and Rene Rivera are emergency options for playing the hot corner. None of these players make appealing fantasy options, with the possible exception of deep NL-only leagues.

Padres | Chase Headley has calf strain

Thu, 24 Apr 2014 16:37:52 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (calf) left the game early with a right calf sprain Thursday, April 24. It's the same calf that gave Headley problems during spring training.

Fantasy Tip: Not good news for Headley owners. There's a good chance he'll need to go on the DL, depending on the severity of the injury. Alexi Amarista would likely take over the majority of the starting duties at the hot corner. The tiny utility infielder makes plenty of contact, but doesn't offer much else. He's a warm body as middle infield depth in NL-only leagues with consistent PT.

Padres | Chase Headley out again

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 12:32:20 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (biceps) remains out of the lineup Thursday, April 17, with a sore right biceps. 2B Alexi Amarista is starting at third base again.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista will be the main beneficiary at third base if Headley needs to go on the disabled list. Yonder Alonso has been taking grounders at the hot corner, too.

Padres | Looking at backup options at 3B

Wed, 16 Apr 2014 18:29:56 -0700

San Diego Padres manager Bud Black said Wednesday, April 16, that the weakest backup position is third base, where INF Alexi Amarista started in place of the injured 3B Chase Headley (biceps). INF Ryan Jackson (wrist) is unavailable at Triple-A El Paso, so the team might look to 1B-OF Yonder Alonso or C Yasmani Grandal to play some third base if Headley is forced out for an extended period.
