Padres | Alexi Amarista starting Sunday

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 12:59:40 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista is batting eighth against Miami Marlins SP Mat Latos Sunday, July 26. SS Clint Barmes is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) only has five hits in 28 at-bats this month and is 1-for-8 versus Latos in his career. You can find better middle infield options in FantasyScore.

Padres | Yonder Alonso hitting second

Thu, 23 Jul 2015 15:45:50 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso is hitting second in the order Thursday, July 23, against the Miami Marlins and RHP Tom Koehler. SS Alexi Amarista will hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is 3-for-9 in his last three games, and he has nine doubles against righties this season. FantasyScore owners can consider Alonso for use in GPP tournaments.

Padres | Will Middlebrooks sitting vs. Giants

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 15:31:37 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Will Middlebrooks is not in the starting lineup Monday, July 20. SS Alexi Amarista draws into the lineup, and he is playing shortstop and batting second against San Francisco Giants SP Tim Hudson Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Middlebrooks ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday. Interestingly, he has been receiving starts at shortstop, which could potentially be a huge boon to his fantasy stock if he lands eligibility there. Keep an eye on that situation. Amarista ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests Monday, but you'll want to keep your expectations in check. He has a .207/.276/.290 slash line for the season.

Padres | Alexi Amarista in two-hole

Wed, 08 Jul 2015 13:01:58 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista is hitting second against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton Wednesday, July 8.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) gains some daily value with a move up in the batting order, but he is only hitting .212 (40-for-189) on the season and has just two home runs and 19 RBI. Plus, Morton has been tough on the Padres in the past. Amarista remains a low-end shortstop play.

Padres | Alexi Amarista not in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 12:32:06 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 16, against the Oakland Athletics. SS Clint Barmes is hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: It appears Amarista ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is getting a simple night off. His splits against lefty pitchers and at Petco Park are good (.278, .229) and his home average is 24 points better than on the road. Barmes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) carries a .385 average in the past week, so he may be worth a low-cost purchase.

Padres | Alexi Amarista on bench

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 15:23:31 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista is not in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw Friday, June 12. SS Clint Barmes is starting at the 6 and hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Barmes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) doesn't offer much offensive hope for FantasyScore users, and he has the most daunting pitching matchup of the evening, too. Ignore him.

Padres | Clint Barmes starting again

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 15:37:13 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Clint Barmes will make his third consecutive start at shortstop Tuesday, June 9, against the Atlanta Braves. SS Alexi Amarista will sit out once again.

Fantasy Tip: Barmes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) will go up against RHP Mike Foltynewicz of the Braves, and he'll hit eighth in the order. Barmes is hitting .289 against righties this season, but he also has 10 strikeouts in just 39 plate appearances. FantasyScore owners could find better options.

Padres | Alexi Amarista sitting vs. Braves

Mon, 08 Jun 2015 13:30:11 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista is not in the starting lineup Monday, June 8. SS Clint Barmes is batting eighth and starting against Atlanta Braves SP Shelby Miller.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is barely holding onto his title as starting shortstop, but don't expect Barmes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) to force the issue with his bat anytime soon, either. While Barmes has a respectable .265 batting average through 68 at-bats this season, he has just two RBI. Against Miller, Barmes should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief by FantasyScore players. Although, Barmes could be worth a flier in NL-only formats.

Padres | Clint Barmes starting Sunday

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 07:17:03 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Clint Barmes is in the starting lineup Sunday, June 7, with SS Alexi Amarista receiving the off day against RHP Johnny Cueto.

Fantasy Tip: Barmes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) can typically be avoided on FantasyScore and that is especially true with an extremely tough matchup against Cueto.

Padres | Clint Barmes starting at SS

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 15:30:26 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Clint Barmes is starting at shortstop and hitting seventh in the batting order against New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom Monday, June 1. SS Alexi Amarista will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: With Amarista slumping, Barmes ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) could start seeing more playing time. He had a season-high three hits yesterday, but he's still hitting just .258 on the year and is a weak FantasyScore pick against deGrom.
