Padres | Three San Diego regulars resting

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 14:57:16 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Jon Jay, C Derek Norris and SS Alexei Ramirez are not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 16. OF Travis Jankowski is starting in center field and hitting leadoff, C Christian Bethancourt is catching and batting seventh and 2B Alexi Amarista is at the 6 and is hitting eighth against Washington Nationals SP Tanner Roark.

Fantasy Tip: Jankowski has the favorable lineup spot setting the table, but he's a light hitter and hasn't translated his speed to much success on the base paths (five steals in eight attempts). He's still more of a low-end outfield pick as a deep sleeper. Bethancourt has some power but remains inconsistent offensively, and Amarista carries very little fantasy allure because of limited power and speed.

Padres | Yangervis Solarte, Brett Wallace out

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 16:18:05 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Yangervis Solarte (thumb) and 3B Brett Wallace are not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Tuesday, June 14. 3B Ryan Schimpf will start at third base and is batting sixth, while SS Alexi Amarista will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Schimpf was hitting .355 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI with Class AAA El Paso when he was recalled by the Padres. He should be an option in NL-only leagues if he receives solid playing time. Owners in deeper mixed leagues and daily fantasy leagues should keep an eye on him. Amarista should be a decent option in NL-only leagues but is not a strong option in most leagues.

Padres | Brett Wallace not in lineup Saturday

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 10:43:10 -0700

San Diego Padres INF Brett Wallace is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood Saturday, June 11. INF Yangervis Solarte will bat cleanup and play the hot corner, while INF Alexi Amarista will bat eighth and start at second base.

Fantasy Tip: Solarte has just three hits in 17 at-bats over the past week but is batting .371 on the road this season and .313 versus Colorado pitching, so he's worth considering as a flier in daily fantasy games this afternoon. Amarista is 5-for-12 at the plate in June but should only be used if you're in desperate need of salary cap relief.

Padres | Derek Norris, Brett Wallace sitting

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 10:32:01 -0700

San Diego Padres C Derek Norris and 1B Brett Wallace are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 8. C Christian Bethancourt is doing the catching and is hitting sixth against Atlanta Braves SP Julio Teheran. 2B Alexi Amarista draws into the lineup at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Bethacourt does have some pop (four home runs) but is a low-end boom-or-bust DFS option. Amarista has zero power and very little speed, so he's a desperation daily selection.

Padres | Brett Wallace out of the lineup

Sun, 29 May 2016 11:40:36 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Brett Wallace is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Archie Bradley Sunday, May 29. 1B Yangervis Solarte will start at third base, while SS Alexi Amarista will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista has only four hits in his last 10 games and is not a strong option for most fantasy owners. Owners should be able to find better players to use in their lineups.

Padres | Yangervis Solarte at second base

Fri, 27 May 2016 15:33:40 -0700

San Diego Padres 3B Yangervis Solarte is starting at second base and is hitting cleanup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray Friday, May 27. 2B Alexi Amarista will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Solarte should be a lineup regular for SD now that he's healthy, and his multipositional eligibility makes him a decent depth piece in deep mixed and NL-only universes. Hitting cleanup tonight against a lefty also makes him an attractive value pick in daily games.

Padres | Alexi Amarista draws into lineup

Thu, 19 May 2016 15:16:08 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Alexi Amarista is starting at second base and is hitting eighth against San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija Thursday, May 19. 2B Jose Pirela starts on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista and Pirela should split the duties at the keystone, at least until Cory Spangenberg returns from the DL. Neither infielder has much fantasy appeal, though, both with next to no power and very little speed. They barely move the needle as depth in NL-only leagues.

Padres | Alexi Amarista activated from DL

Wed, 18 May 2016 15:19:59 -0700

San Diego Padres INF Alexi Amarista (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Thursday, May 18. In a corresponding move, RP Tayron Guerrero was optioned to Class AAA El Paso.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista owns a career .229/.277/.325 slash line through his six-year career and doesn't offer any speed. He should see enough at-bats to be a depth option in NL-only formats, but there isn't a lot to be excited about. Amarista's return will also push Jose Pirela further from fantasy relevance.

Padres | Rehab updates for Friars

Tue, 17 May 2016 17:11:40 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Alexi Amarista (hamstring) is playing second base and leading off for Class AA San Antonio to start his rehab assignment Tuesday, May 17. 3B Yangervis Solarte (hamstring) played seven innings in an extended spring training game Monday, May 16, and he's slightly behind Amarista. 2B Cory Spangenberg (quadriceps) had a setback while trying to run two weeks ago for the first time. He hasn't run since or participated in any baseball activities.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like none of this trio will be ready to return for at least another week or two. Amarista is more of a utility player at the big league level. Solarte and Spangenberg were in starting roles when they were injured. Solarte can contribute modestly across the board but doesn't have much upside, while Spangenberg is mainly attractive in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues for his wheels.

Padres | Alexi Amarista to DL

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 04:44:14 -0700

San Diego Padres SS Alexi Amarista (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, April 23, with a strained right hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Amarista was a .333 hitter this season through eight games, but he has lost a starting job with the acquisition of Alexei Ramirez from the Chicago White Sox. Adam Rosales should get some at-bats with Amarista on the bench.
