Braves | Arodys Vizcaino having bad week

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 15:29:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino is 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA and a blown save in two chances in the last four games, and he's allowed four hits, three runs, a home run and five walks with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings in that span. He was 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA, .188 opponents' average and just one blown save in 12 chances in his previous 33 outings with 46 strikeouts and just nine walks dating back to Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Every closer goes through a rough patch, and Vizcaino has hit his in 2016. The damage has basically come in two games, and despite it he still has solid numbers with a 2.33 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 12.7 K/9. There isn't much competition for the closer role, so Vizcaino isn't in any real danger of losing his job anytime soon.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino gets back on track

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 16:33:21 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino rebounded from his blown save on Tuesday, June 7, by successfully closing out the club's victory Wednesday, June 8, opposite the San Diego Padres. He pitched a scoreless ninth, walking one and striking out one, en route to claiming his seventh save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: This was an important outing for the youngster, seeing how he can respond from a blown save and a loss the night before. Fortunately for his owners, the 25-year-old passed this test with flying colors. Vizcaino has the ability to be a top closer, but being on the worst team in the league, his potential this year will be limited in terms of opportunities. Still, he can be useful in all formats due to his high strikeout rate and low ERA and WHIP.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino takes the loss

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 22:38:58 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino allowed two runs on three hits, including a home run, in 1/3 of an inning against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, June 7. It was his second blown save and first loss of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Vizcaino entered with a one-run and immediately served up a gopher ball to Derek Norris before giving up the game-winning run a short while later. It was the second time in four games he has given up runs -- raising his ERA from 1.31 to 2.25 -- and dropped him to 6-for-8 on save opportunities for the year. He shouldn't be in any immediate danger of losing the job, but eight chances in two-plus months tells you all you need to know about the 2016 Braves.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino has been lights-out

Thu, 26 May 2016 11:15:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino has a 0.92 ERA, a .182 opponent's average, 41 strikeouts, nine walks, one home run allowed and 10 saves in 11 chances in 29 1/3 innings since Sept. 15 of last season.

Fantasy Tip: The weak-hitting Braves won't provide Vizcaino with many save chances -- he has only five this year -- but his peripherals clearly show that he's extremely valuable to fantasy owners as a low-tier closer.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino nails down fifth save

Sat, 21 May 2016 15:18:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino struck out a pair during a perfect ninth inning Saturday, May 21, to slam the door on the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: Two saves in four days represents a windfall for Vizcaino, who notched only three over the Braves' first 38 outings. It'd be a minor shock if he isn't a top target for teams at the trade deadline this season and is sporting a 1.45 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 26:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio thus far, but Atlanta might see the 25-year-old as part of the core group of players it wants to hold on to during its rebuilding process. He's a low-end fantasy closer given his lack of save chances, but worth keeping in lineups nonetheless.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino blows save

Sun, 01 May 2016 17:09:47 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino blew his first save of the season, allowing an unearned run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings against the Chicago Cubs Sunday, May 1.

Fantasy Tip: Vizcaino's ERA sits it an impressive 0.96, but he and veteran Jason Grilli continue to split save chances for a bad Atlanta squad that doesn’t win many games to begin with. Both Vizcaino and Grilli are worth owning if you are hunting for saves, but keep expectations low.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino nails down first save

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 19:51:51 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino converted his first save opportunity of the season, allowing two hits, two walks and no runs while recording the final four outs of a 6-3 win over the Miami Marlins Friday, April 15.

Fantasy Tip: It took 10 tries, but the Braves finally won a game. A lack of opportunities is going to limit Vizcaino's value, but he is still worth owning in all mixed formats as Atlanta's primary closer.

Braves | Arodys Vizcaino a trusted reliever

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 22:30:21 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino was used in the eighth inning against the middle of the order Monday, April 4, against the Washington Nationals. Manager Fredi Gonzalez trusted his best pitcher against the toughest batters.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez has said matchups will dictate who closes, but with Vizcaino working in a high-leverage situation seems to indicate he is the first choice in said matchups. To make matter better, Jason Grilli blew the save chance in the ninth inning.

Braves | Atlanta to use matchups in ninth inning

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 06:59:10 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Arodys Vizcaino and RP Jason Grilli will be part of a matchup-based closing mix for the Braves.

Fantasy Tip: Vizcaino had a great spring with 11 K's in seven scoreless innings. He has the leg up on Grilli. Both are RP3's in fantasy, but Vizcaino has the edge.

Braves | Jason Grilli looks to be ready

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 11:12:49 -0700

Atlanta Braves RP Jason Grilli (Achilles') pitched a scoreless inning Sunday, March 20, and he is showing that he should be ready for opening day after throwing in two spring games after a March 11 simulated game. His fastball was at 94 mph Sunday, so his arm strength is almost back to normal. Grilli is expected to make at least five more appearances before the regular season. The Braves will choose between Grilli and RP Arodys Vizcaino for the closer role. Vizcaino has looked good this spring, giving up three hits and striking out 11 in six spring innings. RP Jim Johnson projects to be the setup man.

Fantasy Tip: The Braves could go with a closer-by-committee to start the year between Grilli and Vizcaino, which will limit both of their fantasy upside. Grilli is a veteran and has the experience, but Vizcaino has the upside after proving worthy of the job in 2015. Both relievers are endgame selections as your third fantasy closer.
