Diamondbacks | AZ has competition for rotation spots

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 12:23:52 -0800

As many as 10 pitchers could be competing for the final three spots in the Arizona Diamondbacks' starting rotation. SPs Josh Collmenter and Jeremy Hellickson are expected to win the first two spots in the rotation, although nothing is etched in stone. SPs Chase Anderson, Archie Bradley, Trevor Cahill, Andrew Chafin, Rubby De La Rosa, Randall Delgado, Daniel Hudson, Vidal Nuno, Robbie Ray and Allen Webster are vying for the other spots, although several of these pitchers could wind up in the bullpen or the minor leagues.

Diamondbacks | Rotation up for grabs

Sun, 08 Feb 2015 00:58:44 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Josh Collmenter and SP Jeremy Hellickson will likely open the season in the starting rotation, but a wide variety of pitchers are in contention for the final three spots. SP Trevor Cahill and SP Vidal Nuno have the most major league experience. SP's Chase Anderson, Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster, and Robbie Ray received looks last season. Top SP prospect Archie Bradley will probably open the year in the minors. Other candidates include P's Andrew Chafin, Randall Delgado, and Daniel Hudson.

Diamondbacks | Trevor Cahill, Randall Delgado in danger

Wed, 09 Apr 2014 16:46:16 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said SPs Trevor Cahill or Randall Delgado are candidates to be moved to the bullpen, but both pitchers are in line to make their next scheduled starts. RP Josh Collmenter is a possibility to be moved to the rotation, but he needs to be stretched out first.

Fantasy Tip: Cahill and Delgado are off to rough starts this year. Collmenter isn't the most intriguing SP, but he could be of use in deep NL-only leagues if he's moved to the rotation. Apparently the D-Backs don't feel that Archie Bradley is ready yet, which isn't surprising.

Diamondbacks | Archie Bradley sent down

Thu, 27 Mar 2014 12:29:52 -0700

The Arizona Diamondbacks re-assigned SP Archie Bradley to minor league camp Thursday, March 27.

Fantasy Tip: Kirk Gibson indicated that Bradley is close to major-league ready, and he'll likely be up in the bigs again before long. Until then, it looks like Randall Delgado will have a rotation spot to himself.

Diamondbacks | Patrick Corbin has partial tear

Mon, 17 Mar 2014 09:19:59 -0700

Updating previous reports, Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow) has a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, and he may need season-ending surgery depending on what Dr. James Andrews finds in a second opinion. SP Wade Miley will now start the team's season opener in Australia against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: You should now avoid Corbin like the plague in all drafts. This will now open up a rotation spot for Archie Bradley, Randall Delgado or Josh Collmenter. Bradley clearly has the most upside of the trio if you are speculating with a late-round flier pick.

Diamondbacks | Likely to stay with in-house pitching options

Mon, 17 Mar 2014 00:56:01 -0700

In the wake of the ulnar collateral ligament injury suffered by Arizona Diamondbacks SP Patrick Corbin (elbow), general manager Kevin Towers plans to use in-house options that could include SPs Randall Delgado, Archie Bradley, and Josh Collmenter, rather than seek a trade immediately.

Diamondbacks | Bronson Arroyo to take a break

Thu, 06 Mar 2014 08:33:03 -0800

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Bronson Arroyo (back) will miss the next seven to 10 days after receiving an epidural injection for an inflamed disc in his back Wednesday, March 5. He was scratched from his spring start Tuesday, March 4, after feeling pain while warming up. "(The doctors) just want it to calm down before he starts throwing again," general manager Kevin Towers said. "Of course, Arroyo doesn't think it'll take that long. We'll just have to play it by ear to see how he's feeling." Arroyo has never been on the disabled list in his career.

Fantasy Tip: If Arroyo isn't ready for the start of the season, that'd leave the door open for the likes of Randall Delgado, Archie Bradley or Daniel Hudson. Bradley has the most upside of the trio, but the Snakes may decide he needs more seasoning. Delgado or Hudson would likely be just a short-term option for NL-only leaguers, depending on how much time Arroyo misses.
