Phillies | Freddy Galvis drives in five

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 16:09:32 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Freddy Galvis went 2-for-3 with a homer and a career-high five RBI Thursday, June 23, against the Minnesota Twins. The home run was his seventh of the season.

Fantasy Tip: This performance seemingly came out of nowhere, as Galvis was hitting a pathetic .108 this month before today's breakout. With a .216/.248/.358 slash line, the 26-year-old can safely be left on waiver wires everywhere.

Phillies | Cody Asche in two-hole

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 12:00:44 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies OF Cody Asche is starting in left field and is batting second against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray Friday, June 17. SS Freddy Galvis moves down to the No. 6 spot against the left-hander.

Fantasy Tip: Asche also swings from the left side, so he's not particular a good play in any fantasy format against the southpaw. He's hit .242/.293/.356 with only five of his 29 career home runs against left-handers.

Phillies | Freddy Galvis sitting vs. Brewers

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 12:30:26 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SS Freddy Galvis is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 3. 2B Andres Blanco is starting at shortstop and batting second against Milwakuee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Friday.

Fantasy Tip: While Galvis' 21 runs, five home runs, 18 RBI and three stolen bases are respectable counting stats in deeper settings, he is nothing more than a low-end option in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Blanco has been receiving the odd start, but with a .250/.302/.425 slash line through 43 plate appearances since May 1, there isn't a lot of value. Although, hitting in the two-hole, he is a potential contrarian flier in daily contests Friday, but keep your expectations in check.

Phillies | Cesar Hernandez jumps up to two-hole

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 13:43:25 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Cesar Hernandez is batting second, and SS Freddy Galvis is batting sixth against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer Wednesday, June 1.

Fantasy Tip: At this point of the season, and in their respective careers, you know what you're getting with Hernandez and Galvis. They're both only viable contributors in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues, and as far as the lineup swap goes, it likely won't matter facing Scherzer Wednesday. If the switch sticks, Hernandez would receive a slight value boost, especially if he can become more active on the base paths.

Phillies | Freddy Galvis dropped in order

Fri, 06 May 2016 13:34:22 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SS Freddy Galvis is being dropped to fifth in the batting order against Miami Marlins SP Wei-Yin Chen Friday, May 6. 2B Cesar Hernandez moves up to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Galvis and Hernandez are both similar hitters in their slap styles without much power, and both should only be depth pieces for deep mixed and NL-only formats. Hernandez gains a bit of value in daily leagues tonight, while Galvis has better opportunities to drive in runs. Regardless, they're both low-end middle infield options.

Phillies | Freddy Galvis helps extend win streak

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 23:22:11 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Freddy Galvis homered and singled Saturday, April 30, in a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians. The Phillies have won five straight games.

Fantasy Tip: Galvis can use this game to jump-start his anemic bat. He has a .220 average to go with two home runs and seven runs batted in, after a .263-7-50 record in 2015. He has at least one hit in six of the last eight games, so maybe his bat is headed in the right direction.

Phillies | Freddy Galvis sitting Tuesday

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 12:02:21 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SS Freddy Galvis is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 26. SS Andres Blanco is starting at the 6 and batting second against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco is a light-hitting utility infielder that should be avoided against Scherzer in daily formats Tuesday, despite hitting in a favorable lineup spot.

Phillies | Freddy Galvis resting Thursday

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 09:04:34 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SS Freddy Galvis is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 14. SS Andres Blanco is starting at shortstop and is hitting sixth against San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco has 11 career home runs in nine years, so he's not much of an offensive force and is a very low-end daily option against the Friars Thursday.

Phillies | Freddy Galvis not in leadoff spot Tuesday

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 13:03:04 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SS Freddy Galvis is batting sixth Tuesday, April 12, against the San Diego Padres. Galvis had been in the leadoff spot. 2B Cesar Hernandez is batting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Galvis has a .179 average to start the season and has just three runs batted in. Hernandez is a .409 hitter in the first week with one stolen base, so the Phillies appear to be juggling lineup spots. Hernandez projects as a decent top-lineup option (19 steals last year). It may take time for Galvis to warm up.

Phillies | Ryan Howard out vs. lefty

Wed, 06 Apr 2016 11:23:30 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard is on the bench against Cincinnati Reds left-handed SP Brandon Finnegan Wednesday, April 6, with 1B Darin Ruf in his spot at first base and hitting fifth. Also, SS Freddy Galvis moves up to the two hole Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Don't act shocked. This is expected to be a regular occurrence this year with Howard sitting against left-handers. Ruf hit .371 with eight of his 12 homers against lefties in 2015 in 97 at-bats, so he's worth a look in daily games today.
