Rays | Alex Colome placed on the DL

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 12:39:21 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome (biceps) was placed on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis Tuesday, June 28. The transaction is retroactive to Sunday, June 19, and Colome expects to be ready to return from the disabled list when eligible Monday, July 4.

Fantasy Tip: This appears to be a road bump and not a detour for Colome owners. He has emerged as a solid closer for fantasy clubs with 19 saves, a 1.76 ERA and 11.2 K/9. Stash him in all seasonal leagues. Look for Erasmo Ramirez or Xavier Cedeno to step in for any save chances with Colome out. Ramirez is the better fantasy bet.

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 19:23:26 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome blew the save and took the loss against the San Francisco Giants Saturday, June 18, allowing three runs on three hits.

Fantasy Tip: Colome still owns an impressive 1.76 ERA this year and is in no danger of losing his closing gig.

Rays | Alex Colome remains perfect

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 05:19:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome tied the club record for most consecutive saves to start a season with his 16th, earned Monday, June 6, in a 6-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Colome has yet to allow a run in his 16 save chances spanning 16 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: It's a good thing Colome is doing quite well, what with Brad Boxberger back on the disabled list with side issues. Colome may be playing his way into a possible trade to another team in the future (or it could be Boxberger). Whatever the case, if your league uses saves then play Colome. He's been lights out all year.

Rays | Alex Colome available Monday

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 16:31:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome will be available in a save situation Monday, June 6, despite working in the last three games, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has been outstanding for the Rays in the ninth-inning role this year with a 1.08 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 12.2 K/9 and 15 saves in 15 tries. He's thrown three innings the last three days, so keep an eye on his effectiveness if he's used again this evening. It appears Colome has earned the closer's job for the rest of the year even when Brad Boxberger returns from his injury in the second half.

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome recorded the final out of a 7-4 win over the Minnesota Twins Saturday, June 4, after RP Tyler Sturdevant allowed a run in the ninth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has now thrown 42 pitches over the last two games, so don't be surprised if he receives a day off in the near future.

Rays | Alex Colome felt off his game

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 21:47:50 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome said he had control issues and didn't feel on top of his game while picking up a five-out save against the Minnesota Twins Friday, June 3.

Fantasy Tip: Despite a sloppy outing, Colome recorded the save without allowing a run. With Brad Boxberger back on the DL, Colome should be a solid fantasy closer for at least another couple of months.

Rays | Alex Colome nets five-out save

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 21:06:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome recorded the final five outs in a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Twins Friday, June 3, allowing two runs, two walks and no runs while striking out three.

Fantasy Tip: Colome's tenure as closer was extended when Brad Boxberger went back to the disabled list, so continue to start him on a daily basis.

Rays | Alex Colome picks up save

Tue, 24 May 2016 19:43:09 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome pitched two scoreless innings against the Miami Marlins Tuesday, May 24, to pick up his 12th save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has pitched well while filling in as the closer and has not allowed a run in any of his last 10 outings. Colome is expected to return to his setup position when Brad Boxberger is activated from the disabled list but should still have value in most fantasy leagues.

Rays | Alex Colome's closing time thinning

Mon, 09 May 2016 22:12:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome will shift to a setup role when RP Brad Boxberger (groin) returns and begins closing games, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: The key part is when Boxberger "returns and closes," which hints that he may not close right away. Colome has a couple of weeks to close as Boxberger nears a rehab assignment. Colome is worth holding onto in case Boxberger struggles or suffers a setback when he returns.

Rays | Alex Colome unlikely to be available

Mon, 09 May 2016 16:22:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Alex Colome is unlikely to be available in a save situation after working three straight days and four of the last five days. RPs Erasmo Ramirez and Xavier Cedeno could be options in the ninth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Colome has been excellent in the ninth-inning role with Brad Boxberger injured to begin the season. Colome has a 2.08 ERA, 11.1 K/9 and nine saves, and he has made a case to remain in the role even when Boxberger is healthy. That'd considerably raise his standing as a closer, but it's uncertain how the Rays will treat the situation. Keep Boxberger stashed everywhere until we know more.
