Patriots | Rob Gronkowski likely to sit

Wed, 27 Aug 2014 09:07:39 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) continues to make progress in his rehab but likely will sit out the final preseason game. Gronkowski is looking to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Gronkowski will be ready for the season even though he did not play in the preseason. Gronkowski should be considered a starting tight end in all leagues, but owners should have a solid backup on the team since Gronkowski has dealt with injuries in the past.

Patriots | No setbacks for Rob Gronkowski

Tue, 26 Aug 2014 15:30:48 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) has not encountered any setbacks from the end of last week, and the acquisition of TE Timothy Wright is not a sign that the team is concerned about Gronkowski's health. The Patriots have wanted to remain cautious with Gronkowski's workload this preseason. Wright is a "move" tight end, similar to the role free-agent TE Aaron Hernandez used to play with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski remains a fine risk as a TE1, as long as he stays healthy. As Wesseling mentions, Wright won't ever take the place of Gronkowski in blocking situations, but he could be useful as a TE2, especially if Gronk is limited at all early in the season.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski favoring knee?

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 15:57:57 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) is still favoring his right knee in practice, and he ran with a decent limp Thursday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: The Gronk can be a beast when healthy, the problem is he now has an extensive injury history, which should move him down a few pegs from being considered a top-tier tight end. He still has some time to recover before the season opener, but he'll be a pretty big risk for his price in Week 1.

Thu, 14 Aug 2014 07:48:59 -0700

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski 50-50 for opener

Tue, 12 Aug 2014 20:11:47 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) has a 50-50 chance to be ready for Week 1, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski could be one of the biggest risk-reward picks in fantasy leagues this year. He is one of the top-two tight ends in all formats when healthy, but there are serious question about whether or not he will be 100 percent when the season begins and whether he can stay healthy for 16 games. Still, you have to start thinking about pulling the trigger if he is still available late in the third round or beyond.

Mon, 11 Aug 2014 12:47:57 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) said his knee is feeling good after taking some days off and has not suffered any setbacks in his recovery. He continues to be limited during practice and is not sure when he will be cleared for contact.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski is taking things slowly with his return to full practice. Gronkowski still has a few weeks to get ready for the start of the season. He should be considered a No. 1 tight end in most leagues, but owners should understand that he is an injury risk.

Thu, 24 Jul 2014 09:03:18 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, July 24. He worked for an hour and 15 minutes before watching the rest of the activities. He didn't participate in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills.

Fantasy Tip: He's still a top-3 option at the position when healthy, but the fact he's cleared for workouts doesn't make him any safer this far away from Week 1.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski plans to play the entire season

Sat, 19 Jul 2014 07:03:58 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) said he is planning on playing the whole season in 2014. "I'm planning on playing the whole season this year," Gronkowski said. "I'm always antsy to get back on the field, no matter when it is," he said. "I just want to play football. I love playing the game."

Fantasy Tip: If this prediction is accurate, it would mean that Gronk would be ready for Week 1. There is still a great deal of risk involved with drafting him due to his frequent visits to weekly injury reports. Check back and monitor his progress in camp. If healthy, Gronk is one of the better tight ends in football.

Fri, 18 Jul 2014 17:32:44 -0700

Fantasy Tip: It would be nice to see Gronkowski practice during training camp, but the main goal is to make sure he is ready for the start of the regular season. Gronkowski should be considered a starting tight end in all leagues, but owners should have a strong backup on their roster because of Gronkowski's injury history.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski has been a terrific fantasy contributor when he is healthy, but he has dealt with injuries over the past two seasons. He should be considered a No. 1 tight end in drafts this upcoming season but does come with some injury risk. Owners who draft him should have a strong backup to fill in if needed.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski progressing

Tue, 29 Apr 2014 08:53:16 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) said his knee is improving, but he hesitated to give any timetable or if he'll be ready for the season opener. "Oh man, that's too far away. I'm just improving every day right now," Gronkowski said. "I'm working hard every day to put myself in the best situation so that I'm ready." His recovery from knee surgery has gone according to plan so far, and he joined his teammates for the voluntary offseason program, which started April 21.

Fantasy Tip: This is the second straight offseason that Gronk will be recovering from surgery. However, if he doesn't have any setbacks, he should be ready in plenty of time for the regular season. New England could draft another tight end in the draft this year, but Gronkowski, when healthy, is clearly the team's No. 1 TE. Expect him to be drafted as one of the first tight ends off the board if he's fully healthy entering the season.

Patriots | Loss of Rob Gronkowski could be huge

Mon, 09 Dec 2013 09:26:36 -0800

The New England Patriots offense has been an entirely different animal with TE Rob Gronkowski (knee) on the field this year. The Pats were 22nd in points per game before Gronkowski returned this year and were seventh entering their Week 14 contest. They were 30th in red zone efficiency without Gronkowski and were 11th entering Sunday, Dec. 8. They were 19th in passing yards per game without him and were 10th entering the game against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Clearly, the New England offense will miss Gronk for the rest of the year. It'll open up more targets for the rest of the receiving core and Shane Vereen, who had a career day in the passing game after Gronk left the game in Week 14.

The team will likely have to lean on Shane Vereen, Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman more the rest of the way.
