Patriots | Rob Gronkowski was already mulling future

Sat, 17 Feb 2018 18:37:43 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski had been thinking about retirement "long before" the loss in Super Bowl LII, according to Jeff Darlington of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Tip: This is potentially bad news for anyone hoping Gronkowski was just having an emotional response to the Super Bowl loss. His future remains up in the air at this point, but he would remain the top fantasy tight end if he does play in 2018. The uncertainty could make him a buy-low candidate in dynasty leagues.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski's retirement thoughts 'real'

Thu, 08 Feb 2018 20:53:33 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's thoughts about retirement ever since the club's loss in Super Bowl 52 on Sunday, Feb. 4, against the Philadelphia Eagles are "real," according to Albert Breer of SI.com. Gronkowski has been responsible with his finances, putting away most of his football money and living largely off his endorsement cash, and he's taken an "absolute beating" physically.

Fantasy Tip: While many would be shocked to see Gronk leave the game while still in his prime, he certainly wouldn't be the first superstar-caliber player to opt for retirement at such a golden point in his career, with Calvin Johnson and Patrick Willis being two recent examples. He has plenty of time to think about it, though, with the offseason only just getting started. The 28-year-old would remain the league's No. 1 tight end if he decides to keep playing.

Patriots | Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski tie record

Mon, 05 Feb 2018 21:36:57 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and TE Rob Gronkowski have now connected for 12 touchdown passes in playoff games after Brady hooked up with Gronkowski twice in Super Bowl 52 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 4. That ties them up with retired QB Joe Montana and WR Jerry Rice for the most touchdowns by a quarterback-receiver duo in NFL postseason history.

Fantasy Tip: No surprise here given New England's prolific history in the playoffs. Brady has already said he'll be back in 2018 and should retain his spot at the top of the quarterback food chain. Gronkowski is in the same boat as it regards NFL tight ends going into next season.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski considering retirement?

Sun, 04 Feb 2018 20:43:10 -0800

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski said he is going to take a look at his future, following a 41-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII. "I'm going to sit down the next couple of weeks, see where I'm at," Gronkowski said.

Fantasy Tip: The sting of a tough loss could have played a role in his comments, but it is a situation worth monitoring in the coming weeks. Gronkowski has dealt with a variety of injuries over his career, but when he's on the field, he's the top tight end in the game.
