Orioles | Miguel Gonzalez set for MRI

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 22:49:58 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez (shoulder) received a cortisone shot in his right shoulder Monday, Aug. 31. He is scheduled for an MRI Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any setbacks.

Orioles | Manager endorses Miguel Gonzalez

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 15:09:48 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez has a 6.48 ERA through 11 starts since coming off the disabled list Thursday, June 25, but will remain in the starting rotation, according to manager Buck Showalter. "He's our best option," Showalter said.

Fantasy Tip: Just because he is Showalter's best option doesn't mean Gonzalez ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is your best option in any fantasy format. It would be wise to avoid Gonzalez in all seasonal leagues until he turns his game around on the bump. FantasyScore players should view him as an extremely risky start, even in favorable matchups.

Orioles | Miguel Gonzalez uneven lately

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 13:42:02 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez has a 6.64 ERA in his last four starts, although he gave up just three runs over seven innings in his last start against the Oakland Athletics. He's looking for his first win since July 25 against the Minnesota Twins Thursday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: The risk factor looks to be too high to use Gonzalez ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) in your daily lineups tonight. He's been a little worse at home than on the road, too.

Orioles | Bud Norris status unclear

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 12:30:14 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Bud Norris has been pushed back in the starting rotation by manager Buck Showalter. SP Miguel Gonzalez will pitch instead on Sunday, July 5. Norris's status is not known.

Fantasy Tip: With Kevin Gausman ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) and Wei-Yin Chen ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) back in the rotation and pitching well, Norris ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) could be on the outside looking in. The club could still pitch Norris on Monday, or he could serve as a long reliever. Stay away from Norris until his status is determined.

Orioles | Miguel Gonzalez activated, starting

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 09:36:45 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez (groin) was activated from the disabled list Thursday, June 25, and he's making the start against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) was sporting a 3.33 ERA in 12 starts for the O's this year before being injured. The Red Sox have been a pretty anemic offense for most of the year, but they've held their own against righties and have been much better at Fenway Park. It's probably wise to avoid Gonzalez in his first start back from the DL.

Orioles | Miguel Gonzalez timetable

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 16:11:48 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez (groin) said his mound session went well and there was no discomfort Thursday, June 18. He will make a rehab start of approximately 75 pitches for Class AA Bowie Saturday, June 20, and then rejoin the Orioles Thursday, June 25.

Fantasy Tip: Because it isn't an arm injury, fantasy owners should be less concerned about Gonzalez's ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) return. Still, it would be wise to be picky with his starts, especially in FantasyScore contests. In favorable matchups, though, he is a potential value play. For the season, Gonzalez has a 3.33 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 7.3 K/9.

Orioles | Miguel Gonzalez to throw bullpen

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 22:48:00 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez (groin) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, June 18, in Philadelphia. If it goes well he might pitch in a minor-league rehab game over the weekend, manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez might be able to return before the end of the month, but FantasyScore players will want to avoid him until he officially returns and makes it through one full starts without any setbacks.

Orioles | Miguel Gonzalez heading to DL

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 12:01:59 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez (groin) was placed on the disabled list with a strained right groin Thursday, June 11.

Fantasy Tip: With Gonzalez injured, the O's are recalling reliever Mike Wright from the minors. He's expected to start against the New York Yankees Sunday if he's not used in relief before then. It's likely just a spot start for Wright, and he should be avoided everywhere.

Orioles | Miguel Gonzalez likely headed for DL

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 17:51:46 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles are working on a plan to place SP Miguel Gonzalez (groin) on the disabled list, Wednesday, June 10.

Fantasy Tip: SP Mike Wright ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) would likely be moved back into the starting rotation if the Orioles need a replacement starter for any length of time. Wright has a 4.14 xFIP through four starts and 24 1/3 innings this season. If named the replacement starter, Wright would be in line to start Sunday, June 14, against the New York Yankees, where FantasyScore owners should stay away.

Orioles | Miguel Gonzalez won't start Saturday

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 14:03:58 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez (groin) will not make his start against the New York Yankees Saturday, June 13, and it is likely he is placed on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Tyler Wilson and Mike Wright ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) are candidates to make the start, but facing a tough Yankees' lineup makes them a risky start in all formats. At best, they would be a desperation stream for AL-only owners. Continue to check back for updates on the severity of Gonzalez's ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) injury and when he projects to return.
