Phillies | Jorge Alfaro mending on the farm

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 21:04:35 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies C Jorge Alfaro (oblique) is on the 7-day disabled list at Class AA Reading, but he might be back in the lineup next week. He has been dealing with a strained right oblique. Alfaro, the team's top prospect, is hitting .500 (18-for-36) with a .750 slugging percentage.

Fantasy Tip: Alfaro might get a look at the big-league level later this season. He is worth stashing in deeper NL-only leagues later this summer, and he is a must-have in long-term keeper fantasy leagues.

Rangers | TEX close to acquiring Cole Hamels

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:13:52 -0700

The Texas Rangers are close to acquiring SP Cole Hamels from the Philadelphia Phillies, according to multiple sources. The Phillies are believed to be receiving minor league C Jorge Alfaro and SP Jerad Eickhoff in return.

Fantasy Tip: Despite moving to the American League, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) would receive a boost pitching for a contender. He makes a strong No. 2 fantasy starter and is a solid FantasyScore option in most games. Alfaro is batting .253 with five home runs and 21 RBIs in 49 games for Class AA Frisco and is considered one of the organization's top prospects. Eickhoff is 9-4 with a 4.30 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) for Frisco and Class AAA Round Rock.

Rangers | TEX acquires Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:04:36 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Texas Rangers have acquired SP Cole Hamels, RP Jake Diekman and cash considerations from the Philadelphia Phillies, in exchange for SP Matt Harrison, C Jorge Alfaro, SP Jerad Eickhoff, OF Nick Williams, P Jake Thompson and P Alec Asher.

Fantasy Tip: For the first time since 2011, Hamels ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) finds himself pitching for a playoff contender and the change of scenery should give him a boost, especially considering the lack of run support he received towards the end of his tenure with the Phillies. He is expected to make his first start against the San Francisco Giants Friday, July 31, or Saturday, Aug. 1. Harrison ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in three starts since returning from spinal fusion surgery and should not be a FantasyScore option at this point. Owners in NL-only leagues or dynasty leagues may want to keep tabs on Alfaro, who is considered to be one of the better catching prospects in baseball.

Rangers | Leonys Martin has decent shot to make team

Wed, 23 Jan 2013 14:08:06 -0800

Texas Rangers OF Leonys Martin has a decent shot to make the team out of spring training as he competes with OF Craig Gentry for the center field spot. Martin probably has the best chance out of SS Jurickson Profar, 3B Mike Olt, OF Engel Beltre and C Jorge Alfaro at making the opening day roster. Martin has been compared to Boston Red Sox OF Jacoby Ellsbury, who hitting coach Dave Magadan also worked with in Boston. "The ceiling is limitless on him. So we'll let him go at his pace and whatever we can to make him better, and he's definitely a lot like Jacoby in the way he's very coachable, very open. He's got that personality where he's very approachable, those are all good things," Magadan said.
