Patriots | Brandon LaFell the top option outside

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 15:23:27 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell played a team-high 77 out of 84 offensive snaps in Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and he's clearly now the top outside receiving option for the team. WR Danny Amendola (20 out of 84 snaps) wasn't used much because the Patriots didn't use many three-receiver sets.

Fantasy Tip: After a 119-yard, one-touchdown performance in Week 4, LaFell disappointed with just one catch on four targets against the Bengals. However, the fact that he played the most snaps of all receivers is a big positive. It's time to start giving him a look on the waiver wire if he's out there in your league.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell shines in loss

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 20:50:41 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell had a team-high six receptions for a game-high 119 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 29. It was LaFell's first TD with the Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell was one of the few bright spots in an ugly game for the Patriots. There aren't many NFL caliber wideouts on the New England roster right now, and certainly not many fantasy relevant options, but LaFell certainly looks like a decent WR3/4 or flex option going forward. He appears to have Tom Brady's confidence.

Patriots | Aaron Dobson a healthy scratch

Sun, 07 Sep 2014 16:17:01 -0700

New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson was a healthy inactive for Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins. WRs Kenbrell Thompkins and Brandon LaFell both had great training camps, and TE Tim Wright gives the team more options to run the ball in two-tight end sets. It means that the Patriots don't think Dobson has caught Thompkins or LaFell on the depth chart yet.

Patriots | Josh Boyce well behind others

Fri, 22 Aug 2014 22:41:55 -0700

New England Patriots WR Josh Boyce did not play an offensive snap until there was 1:26 remaining in the third quarter of the preseason game Friday, Aug. 22, against the Carolina Panthers. He is considered to be decisively behind WRs Kenbrell Thompkins, Aaron Dobson (foot), Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola and Brandon LaFell on the depth chart.

Patriots | No. 3 WR battle heating up

Fri, 15 Aug 2014 21:23:35 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell and Kenbrell Thompkins each posted touchdown grabs in the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles Friday, Aug. 15. LaFell was targeted three times, catching two for 29 yards and the score, while Thompkins had three receptions for 32 yards and a touchdown while being targeted four times.

Fantasy Tip: The two are battling for the No. 3 job, although each figure to be a major part of the offense no matter how things shake down. Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola haven't exactly been the picture of health over their careers, so LaFell and Thompkins are likely to see a start of two during the season. A late-round flier on each wouldn't be a bad idea on draft day.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell could take on Aaron Hernandez role

Fri, 20 Jun 2014 12:05:11 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell could play the "Aaron Hernandez" role this year, according to a source. LaFell's former coach, Ron Rivera, said LaFell knew the tight end position in addition to all of their wide receiver positions. It helps that the Patriots aren't deep at tight end behind TE Rob Gronkowski.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell still has a lot of work to do in order to become fantasy relevant. Though, if he does end up in Hernandez's old role, he could gain more value. Monitor his status throughout training camp, but it's best not to draft him as of now.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell slowly adjusting to new offense

Thu, 05 Jun 2014 13:18:20 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell admits he is playing at half-speed as he adjusts to the Patriots codeword offensive system, after using a numbers-based system last season in Carolina. LaFell is focused on picking up the offense so he can continue to gel and build chemistry with QB Tom Brady during organized team activities, instead of waiting until training camp.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell is joining an already crowded wide receiver corps and has to learn the offense. Given New England's propensity to spread the ball around, his fantasy value is tied to an injury within the receiving corps.
