Tue, 26 Aug 2014 05:57:18 -0700
Carolina Panthers QB Derek Anderson's wife is expected to go into labor any day, and he could miss the final preseason game this week. QB Joe Webb would be the only healthy quarterback able to play in the final preseason game. Head coach Ron Rivera said the team has two unnamed options to serve as the emergency quarterback on the roster.
Mon, 25 Aug 2014 10:33:32 -0700
Carolina Panthers QB Derek Anderson will start against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the team's final preseason game, and he'll be the starter in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if QB Cam Newton (rib cage) isn't ready by then. Newton's injury increases the likelihood that the team will keep QB Joe Webb on roster, according to head coach Ron Rivera.
Fantasy Tip: Carolina faces an undervalued Bucs defense in Week 1. If Anderson were to start, he shouldn't be considered in any leagues.
Fri, 18 Jul 2014 07:39:04 -0700
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton held a three-day throwing session with WR Kelvin Benjamin, QBs Joe Webb and Matt Blanchard, one tight end and nine other receivers this week.
Thu, 10 Jul 2014 11:22:13 -0700
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton will work with his wide receivers before training camp gets underway to try to get on the same page after missing time due to an ankle issue. "It's been more difficult because Cam's coming off an ankle injury and he had to get surgery, so we couldn't throw with him as much as we would like," Panthers receiver Tiquan Underwood said.
"I know we're all going to get together next week in Charlotte. We're just going to try to speed up the process. We're all going to throw -- Derek Anderson, Cam Newton, Joe Webb, Matt Blanchard and all the receivers -- just to work on timing and get that down pat before camp."
Fantasy Tip: Newton and his wide receivers are behind after not getting much work in during the offseason program. This is a good start to help get back up to speed before the full squad reports at the end of the month. Newton remains a fringe QB1 option for fantasy players thanks to his questionable receiving targets.

Head coach Leslie Frazier used Simpson as the fourth receiver for much of the day, with WR Joe Webb often seeing time ahead of Simpson in three-receiver sets. Simpson was arrested Nov. 9 for drunken driving. "There's no sense in me talking about that now. The decision was made. Simpson was out there on the second play. Circumstances dictated this is what we had to do," Frazier said Sunday, Nov. 17. Simpson made one catch for one yard.

Thu, 08 Aug 2013 11:09:06 -0700
Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said he believes the team will be able to find a roster spot for WR Joe Webb because of the versatility he can bring. "[Webb] is one of those guys that can do a lot of different things most people can't in the league," Spielman said. "But the other thing we're going to take a hard look at is during these special teams drills, now we're not live yet, but just seeing him run down as an athlete on kickoff coverage, working him back some as a returner, putting him out as a gunner on the punt team, see if he can break down in space and make some tackles."
Wed, 19 Jun 2013 19:00:43 -0700
Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson continued to see the first rep on kick returns, ahead of WR Joe Webb and CBs A.J. Jefferson, Josh Robinson and Marcus Sherels. "I think (Patterson is) more comfortable catching kickoffs right now than punts, like a lot of young guys," special teams coordinator Mike Priefer said Wednesday, June 19. "But we're making progress in both phases." Priefer said if the season were starting right now, Sherels would be the team's punt returner.
Wed, 19 Jun 2013 13:37:17 -0700
Minnesota Vikings WR Joe Webb said he has been helping out WR Cordarrelle Patterson during practices with different things. "I've been helping Cordarrelle out a lot, especially with the offense," Webb said. "Keeping him updated on what defenses like to do against certain routes."

Thu, 16 May 2013 12:38:21 -0700
Minnesota Vikings WR Joe Webb said he is fine with moving from quarterback to wide receiver but expects it to take some times to get comfortable at the position. "I'm doing real good. I still have a long ways to go, but I'm getting better every day and that's all you can do. I just take it one step at a time, one day at a time, one play at a time, and hopefully it can turn out as a success," Webb said.
Thu, 16 May 2013 09:45:10 -0700
Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson will be given an opportunity to earn a starting wide receiver spot across from WR Greg Jennings this year, according to head coach Leslie Frazier. WR Joe Webb will be insurance in case Patterson doesn't pan out.
Fantasy Tip: It's tough to predict Patterson's fantasy value heading into his rookie season. Aside from Greg Jennings, Christian Ponder doesn't have much to work with at wideout, and Kyle Rudolph will remain a big target in the passing game. Patterson is a bit of a project and will have to improve his route-running skills dramatically to make an impact immediately. Consider him a late-round flier in deep leagues.
Thu, 16 May 2013 05:11:24 -0700

Fri, 03 May 2013 10:24:42 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Joe Webb said the team has not told him what position he will play during offseason workouts but will be willing to move to wide receiver if asked. "Yeah, I'm comfortable," Webb said. "Whatever it is to help the team. I'm a team player. So, as long as I get on the field. I'm excited to get on the field this year. Hopefully, we can make that happen. But in the meantime, whatever they ask me to do, I'm going to do it."
Thu, 02 May 2013 05:45:37 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Joe Webb has been catching passes in anticipation for the team to ask him to switch to wide receiver. "They're still figuring it out," Webb said. "But it looks like, if I am going to receiver, I'm doing a lot more work at it so I can work on my craft at receiver since I haven't been there since, what, 2010 when I first got drafted?"
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 21:00:26 -0700
Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder remains the unquestioned starter entering his third NFL season. However, if he goes into a protracted slump like last season, the coaching staff could be inclined to take a look at QB Matt Cassel, who will make $3.7 million this season even if he doesn't take a snap. Cassel fits the system of offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave better than QB Joe Webb, who is expected to serve as the third QB.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier indicated the team is still considering the possibility of moving QB Joe Webb to another position. Sun, 20 Jan 2013 13:41:17 -0800
Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said he likes QB Joe Webb and will not judge him solely on his performance in the team's Wild Card playoff game. "Joe has been a very good backup quarterback," Spielman said. "I'm sure, as everybody has seen, that he probably didn't play the way he wanted to play up in Green Bay. But if you look into his history, that's what you have to do, the things he did when he came into the Washington game a year ago, what he did in Detroit the game [QB Christian Ponder] got hurt, what he did in Philadelphia when we got stuck two years ago."
Wed, 09 Jan 2013 05:11:36 -0800
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said QB Christian Ponder is the team's starting quarterback moving forward; however, backup QB Joe Webb will have to compete for the No. 2 job. "(Webb will) be a guy that will compete for the No. 2 spot again next year, barring something that we may end up doing in our personnel meetings," Frazier said. "But we'll discuss Joe's position and everyone's position in our personnel meetings and then we'll make a decision what's best."
Sun, 06 Jan 2013 18:45:16 -0800
Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers felt facing Minnesota Vikings QB Joe Webb in the NFC Wild Card game was a good preview for next week's matchup against the San Francisco 49ers and QB Colin Kaepernick, also a mobile quarterback. The 49ers also have a powerful back in RB Frank Gore. "Well I think there is some value because I think there are some similarities," Capers said.

Last season he entered camp uncertain if he would be used at quarterback or as a wide receiver. "Yeah, it's easier," Webb said, about not having to concentrate on multiple positions. "But quarterback is still a difficult position. You still have to be on top of your game. Study the game and know where you're going to go with the ball."
