Lions | Joique Bell progressing nicely

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 06:46:27 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') has ramped up his return-to-play workouts in recent weeks and said he is "getting close." Head coach Jim Caldwell said Bell looks in good shape and hinted the running back will be ready for Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: Bell appears on track to be ready for Week 1, but whether he will be utilized without restrictions is unknown. While he is the likely starter and elder statesmen in a projected committee with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Reddick, there is a chance Bell is somewhat eased back into the mix due to his limitations in camp and lengthy rehab during the offseason. Bell is a fringe No. 2 running back in standard leagues, and Abdullah is a worthy RB3 with upside in PPR formats. Reddick is nothing more than a late-round flier in deep leagues.

Lions | Joique Bell sitting out

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 15:38:46 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') will not play in the third preseason game Friday, Aug. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is still not ready to play in a game, so owners should continue to monitor his progress to see if he will be ready for the regular season. Bell probably will receive a majority of the carries but will split playing time with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick. Bell could be a middle-round option in most fantasy leagues.

Lions | Detroit will use committee at RB

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 12:53:48 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford said the Lions will still take a committee approach at running back even when Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') returns.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Jim Caldwell recently said he expects to come back as a bellcow running back, so we may have to wait until the regular starts to see how much Bell and Ameer Abdullah are used. If Bell stays healthy, he has RB2 upside. Abdullah is a speculative RB3 with RB2 potential in PPR leagues.

Lions | Detroit HC talks Joique Bell

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 12:01:14 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') is expected to return this season as a bellcow running back, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Bell has been nursing injuries all offseason, but Caldwell still envisions him producing similarly to how he did last year.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has rushed for 15 combined touchdowns the last two seasons. Ameer Abdullah, and even Theo Riddick, will cut into his playing time this year, but he still has RB2 potential if he can get healthy and stay healthy.

Lions | Joique Bell to keep starting job

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 06:38:08 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') will return as the starting running back when he returns from the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to RB Zach Zenner.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is an RB2, but he's being pushed by Ameer Abdullah, who should be active in PPR leagues as an RB3.

Lions | Detroit RBs close to even split

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 06:11:15 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell and RB Ameer Abdullah are expected to have their touches fluctuate based on the weekly matchup, but it's unlikely there are games where one dominates the touches if both are healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is expected to be used inside while Abdullah can stretch it outside with his speed and agility. Bell is a solid RB3 with added bonus for his previous PPR showings. Abdullah is an RB3, but he's a tick below.

Lions | Joique Bell feeling good

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 21:11:47 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell said he is finally pain-free for the first time in a couple of years and he is motivated to have a great season. Running backs coach Curtis Modkins likes the running back by committee style and Bell will have an important role as an inside runner.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is expected to see plenty of reps, whether it is in a starting role or behind rookie Ameer Abdullah. Bell is a solid RB3 or flex fantasy option in most formats, and he is especially useful in formats which reward points per reception (PPR).

Lions | Joique Bell looking better

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 11:41:36 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles', knee) ran harder on the side during practice Tuesday, Aug. 11, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has been nursing injuries all offseason, and it's taking him a while to get back to good health. Ameer Abdullah will bit into his fantasy value a bit, but Bell is still worth a look as a RB2 if he's healthy.

Lions | Theo Riddick listed as starter

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 13:37:48 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Theo Riddick is listed as the starting running back on the team's first depth chart since RB Joique Bell (Achilles', knee) is on the Physically Unable to Perform list. RB Ameer Abdullah is listed as the No. 2 running back on the depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Riddick is listed as the starter for now but things should change as the preseason goes on. Riddick should have more value in point-per-reception leagues since he likely will be used as a receiver out of the backfield. Bell and Abdullah could be middle-round options in drafts if they share work at the position.

Lions | Joique Bell works on side

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 13:14:34 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles', knee) has been working on a side field and could be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list in the near future. Bell has been sprinting, cutting and doing cone drills during workouts.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has not participated in practice at this point since he is recovering from injuries but could return soon. Bell is expected to be the starting running back for the Lions this season and could be a middle-round pick if he is able to stay healthy.

Lions | Big role for Ameer Abdullah

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 18:03:48 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah is expected to be a big part of the offense in his first NFL season, splitting carries with RB Joique Bell while also having first chance to win punt and kick return duties. Abdullah is expected to play a similar role to RB Reggie Bush in offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi's offense.

Fantasy Tip: Abdullah should be an attractive fantasy option for those in leagues which reward point per reception (PPR), and he could see enough touches to warrant usage as a low-end RB2 or flex play in standard leagues sooner rather than later, too.

Lions | No timetable for Joique Bell

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:24:23 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles', knee) is making progress in his recovery from injuries, but there is still no timetable for his return, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should continue to monitor Bell's recovery to see when he will be able to return to the field. Bell likely will be the starter if he is healthy and could be a middle-round draft choice in drafts. Owners that select Bell may want to also select Ameer Abdullah as a handcuff in case Bell has a setback.

Lions | Joique Bell to begin on PUP list

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 16:20:19 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (undisclosed) was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Wednesday, July 29, as he recovers from offseason surgery. It is unclear what the specific injury is, but Bell did have issues with his knee and Achilles' last season.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is eligible to return to the Lions at any point during training camp, but he has been very quiet on his injury issues. Owners are still free to draft Bell at this point, but rookie Ameer Abdullah may have an early season opportunity as this develops.

Lions | Joique Bell's health a big concern?

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 12:57:58 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell's health will be a concern until the Lions see him back on the field, according to offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. Bell suffered Achilles' and knee injuries last season, but still managed nearly 1,200 total yards and eight total touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: As long as he is healthy, Bell will be the Lions' starting running back. Ameer Abdullah will probably see his fair share of playing time too, while Theo Riddick should primarily be used on passing downs. There is some risk with Bell, but he should be selected as a RB2.

Lions | Detroit RBs to make dynamic duo?

Thu, 09 Jul 2015 15:15:57 -0700

Detroit Lions RBs Joique Bell and rookie Ameer Abdullah are expected to form a one-two punch in the Lions' backfield this year. Head coach Jim Caldwell is supposedly set on running the ball more in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: It's not out of the question that both Bell and Abdullah can succeed this year. The Lions had two successful running backs in Bell and Reggie Bush two years ago. They both finished in the top-20 fantasy running backs that year. Bell should be drafted in RB2 territory while Abdullah should be considered a RB3 with RB2 potential.

Lions | Joique Bell aiming for 1,200 yards

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 08:28:20 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell is aiming to become the franchise's second running back to rush for 1,000 yards since 2004. "I'm going to rush for over 1,200 yards," Bell said. "That's the minimum. If I do less than that, I'll be surprised. I'll be disappointed. Anything more than that, I wouldn't be surprised at all."

Fantasy Tip: Bell is the clear leader in an expected timeshare with Theo Riddick. Head coach Jim Caldwell said he wants to run the ball more than they did last season. Bell is a high-to-mid RB2, while Riddick profiles as an RB3 in PPR formats.

Lions | Joique Bell not able to practice

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 10:14:22 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles', knee) was present for organized team activities Wednesday, June 10, but was not able to participate in the drills.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has missed all of the offseason workouts because of his injury but still has several weeks to recover before training camp. Bell likely will be the starting running back will share time with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick. Bell could be seen as a No. 2 running back in most fantasy leagues this season.

Lions | Joique Bell not taking role for granted

Sun, 31 May 2015 16:50:51 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell said he is not assuming he is going to be the starting back in 2015. "I don't plan out the roles," Bell said during OTAs. "I go out to do what the team needs."

Fantasy Tip: Although Bell's status as the power back seems safe, the duo of Theo Riddick and Ameer Abdullah will likely prevent him from being a true workhorse back. On the plus side, he should see a bulk of the work around the goal line, and he should be a solid RB2.

Lions | Detroit to add help for Joique Bell?

Sun, 12 Apr 2015 16:24:39 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell is expected to open the 2015 season as the primary running back, but Detroit is likely to draft another back, and head coach Jim Caldwell said they plan to add the most talented player available, even it means adding a power back.

Fantasy Tip: Bell should be considered a RB2 heading into the 2015 season, but if the Lions decide to add a power back early in the draft, Bell's value could suffer a bit.

Lions | New backfield mate for Joique Bell?

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 21:40:09 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell could have company in the backfield if the team acts on its interest and signs free-agent RB C.J. Spiller (Bills).

Fantasy Tip: An addition of Spiller would kill the fantasy appeal of Bell, who has good hands out of the backfield. Of course, so does Spiller. A timeshare would be the best-case scenario for Bell, and the worst-case scenario would be serving as the No. 2 back receiving only a handful of touches. Spiller's addition would make Bell a low-end RB2, even if point-per-reception (PPR) fantasy formats.

Lions | Joique Bell undergoes surgery

Tue, 20 Jan 2015 20:14:32 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell had minor surgery last week to clean up his knee and Achilles' tendon. He is expected to return in time for organized offseason workouts.

Fantasy Tip: It appears that the leading rusher for the Lions will be more than ready for the 2015 season. It depends on what the Lions do in free agency and the draft as to whether Bell will be the bellcow in Motown again in 2015.

Lions | Joique Bell probable

Fri, 26 Dec 2014 13:40:12 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles') is probable for Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has a tough test against Green Bay, who has defended the run better than average this year. Consider him no more than a flex option on FantasyScore this week.

Lions | Joique Bell a full-go Thursday

Thu, 25 Dec 2014 14:45:51 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles') fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has five touchdowns over his past four games, and the matchup with the Green Bay Packers projects to be a high-scoring game. Bell is worth considering as a No. 2 running back or flex play in FantasyScore contests this weekend.

Lions | Joique Bell limited in practice

Wed, 24 Dec 2014 12:56:12 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (Achilles') was limited in practice Wednesday, Dec. 24. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said the injury shouldn't affect his status for Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Even if he does play, Bell is probably best left off FantasyScore lineups with a tough draw against the Green Bay Packers, who have allowed only eight rushing touchdowns to running backs through 15 games.

Lions | Joique Bell missed first quarter

Sun, 21 Dec 2014 14:38:35 -0800

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell missed the first quarter of the Week 16 game against the Chicago Bears due to a violation of team rules.

Fantasy Tip: Bell still ended up with an impressive stat line for FantasyScore owners who started him. If you were wondering why he got off to such a slow start, here is the reason.

Lions | Joique Bell runs for score

Sun, 21 Dec 2014 14:01:43 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell carried 13 times for a game-high 74 yards and a touchdown in the Week 16 game against the Chicago Bears. He also had two receptions for 13 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Bell has rushed for 62 or more yards in four straight games, and five of the past six outings. He also has four rushing touchdowns in the past four games while also grabbing a receiving touchdown. He has emerged as a solid RB2 or flex play in all fantasy formats.

Lions | Detroit not dropping passes

Tue, 09 Dec 2014 14:40:26 -0800

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford has completed three percent more of his passes this year than last year, and the team's reduction in dropped passes is likely the key. Last year, the Lions dropped 8.1 percent of passes. No Lions player has more than three drops on the year, with RB Joique Bell, TE Eric Ebron and WR Calvin Johnson with three drops each.

Lions | Probable status for Joique Bell

Fri, 21 Nov 2014 14:08:27 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ankle) practiced in full Friday, Nov. 21, and is probable for Week 12 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Bell costs $5,400 at FantasyScore, and the Patriots have allowed an average of 20.76 fantasy points to running backs, although their D has stiffened of late. Bell will be a safer play if Reggie Bush (ankle) sits out again.

Lions | Joique Bell, Reggie Bush limited

Thu, 20 Nov 2014 14:59:23 -0800

Detroit Lions RBs Joique Bell (ankle) and Reggie Bush (ankle) were both limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 20. Bell did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Both running backs are expected to play against the New England Patriots in Week 12. Bell ($5,400) should be the more trusted FantasyScore lineup option, though, and the Pats have allowed an average of 18.63 fantasy points to running backs. Bush costs slightly less than Bell at $5,200.

Lions | Joique Bell has ankle injury

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 13:45:11 -0800

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (ankle) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 19, due to an ankle injury. Bell left game briefly in Week 11 because of his injury.

Fantasy Tip: Bell ($5,400) should be fine unless he suffers a setback this week. The New England Patriots, the Lions' Week 12 opponent, have allowed just over 20 fantasy points to running backs this year, which makes Bell appealing. However, the backfield picture could be cloudy if Reggie Bush (ankle) re-enters the fold.

Lions | Joique Bell sits Wednesday

Wed, 19 Nov 2014 12:38:45 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (undisclosed) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Bell's injury was not specified, assuming there is even an injury. Keep tabs on his status as the week goes on. Reggie Bush and Theo Riddick will be involved even if Bell plays.

Lions | Reggie Bush out Sunday

Sat, 15 Nov 2014 15:39:05 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (ankle) will be held out of the game Sunday, Nov. 16, in Week 11. RBs Joique Bell and Theo Riddick will split time in the backfield.

Fantasy Tip: Bell ($4,900; 9.8% of your cap) and Riddick ($4,300; 8.6%) are both fairly priced flex options on FantasyScore this week against the New England Patriots.

Lions | Reggie Bush sees light work

Mon, 10 Nov 2014 07:34:52 -0800

Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush played just 19 offensive snaps Sunday, Nov. 9, which was 28% of the offense. In contrast, RB Joique Bell played 67% of the snaps and RB Theo Riddick played 10% of the snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Bush had four carries for 20 yards and one reception for five yards in Week 10. Clearly, he has been banged up, but one has to wonder if this is also part of his inevitable decline at the age of 29. Avoid him on FantasyScore until he becomes more involved in the offense.

Lions | Joique Bell likely to carry load

Fri, 24 Oct 2014 19:10:18 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell is likely to see a lion's share of the carries in Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Fantasy Tip: A source indicated Reggie Bush (ankle) is likely to be rested again, so Bell would be the top back. George Winn and Theo Riddick could also see carries, but Bell is the best option and he has great hands out of the backfield. In FantasyScore leagues, Bell is a steal at $4,700 (or 9.4 percent of the cap).

Lions | Calvin Johnson misses another practice

Fri, 17 Oct 2014 09:12:34 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) didn't practice for the sixth straight day Friday, Oct. 17. Head coach Jim Caldwell isn't ruling him out for Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, but he also didn't make it sound like Johnson would play, either. Johnson said earlier this week that he sees no reason to rush back to the field until he's completely healthy. The team will lean heavily on WRs Golden Tate, Corey Fuller and Jeremy Ross, along with RBs Joique Bell and Reggie Bush if Johnson doesn't play again.

Fantasy Tip: It's highly unlikely that we see Megatron play against the Saints. Avoid him everywhere. Tate's price ($6,300; 12.6% of cap) has gone up with Johnson hobbled, but he could still return a profit against a weak New Orleans defense.

Lions | Reggie Bush likely out

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 07:13:43 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (ankle) is expected to miss the game Sunday, Oct. 12, in Week 6, according to a source. RB Theo Riddick is expected to have a significant role behind RB Joique Bell.

Fantasy Tip: Bell ($4,900; 9.8% of your cap) has a mighty tasty price on FantasyScore this week. Riddick is a bare-minimum flier at $3,000 this week.

Lions | Joique Bell feeling great

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 11:44:29 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) is expected to return to action against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6. Bell said that his legs "feel really fresh" and that he is feeling "100 percent all around."

Fantasy Tip: Bell sounds as if he'll play in Week 6. At a cost of only $4,900 (9.8% of cap), Bell is a very intriguing option at FantasyScore this weekend, especially if both Reggie Bush (ankle) and Calvin Johnson (ankle) don't play, as expected.

Lions | Reggie Bush out again

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 09:46:00 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Reggie Bush (ankle) missed his third practice of the week Friday, Oct. 10. If he can't play in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings, RBs Joique Bell and Theo Riddick will likely see more carries.

Fantasy Tip: Look to avoid Bush at FantasyScore at his price of $6,400 (12.8% of cap). Bell was cleared from his concussion earlier in the week and has been practicing in full all week. With an increased workload, Bell could be a sneaky play against the Vikings. He costs just $4,900 (9.8% of cap).

Thu, 09 Oct 2014 14:36:40 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) practiced in full for the second straight day Thursday, Oct. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Now that Bell has been cleared to practice in full, it seems as though he has a solid chance to play against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6. With Reggie Bush (ankle) banged up, Bell could see plenty of playing time this weekend.

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 14:29:54 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) returned to practice Wednesday, Oct. 8, for the first time since suffering a concussion in Week 4. He practiced in full.

Fantasy Tip: This is a great sign that Bell will return in Week 6 to face the Minnesota Vikings. With Reggie Bush (ankle) questionable to play, Bell could be in for a big workload, especially in the passing game if Calvin Johnson (ankle) can't play, either.

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) said he is feeling normal but needs medical clearance before playing in a game. He said he hopes to be able to play in Week 6.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should monitor his practice participation this week to get a better feel for his status for Week 6. Bell should have his normal role on offense if he is able to play and could be used as a flex option in leagues.

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 13:17:15 -0700

Updating previous reports, Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) did not practice for the third straight day Friday, Oct. 3, and has officially been ruled out for Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: Now that we know for sure that Bell won't play, look to put Reggie Bush ($6,400; 12.8% of cap) into your FantasyScore lineups. Bush could produce with the lion's share of the touches against the Bills.

Lions | Joique Bell cleared for activity

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 10:31:45 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) has been cleared for physical activity, according to a team spokesman. However, it's still unclear if Bell will play in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills after not practicing all week. Bell was only running on the side during practice Friday, Oct. 3. Bell leads the team with 48 carries and 152 rushing yards, and he also has nine catches for 73 yards. RB Reggie Bush will likely have a larger workload if Bell can't play.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is obviously an extremely risky option for any of your FantasyScore lineups. Look elsewhere, and consider going with Reggie Bush if Bell doesn't suit up.

Lions | Joique Bell sits out again

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 10:31:15 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) missed his third straight practice of the week Friday, Oct. 3, although he was back on the field for the first time since suffering a concussion in Week 4.

Fantasy Tip: That all but assures that Bell won't be available in Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills. That means that Reggie Bush will become a fine FantasyScore play this weekend for $6,400 (12.8% of cap).

Lions | Joique Bell not cleared yet

Thu, 02 Oct 2014 10:58:38 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) has not yet been cleared after suffering a concussion in Week 4. Bell has 48 carries for 152 yards and a touchdown this year, and he's also added nine catches for 73 yards. More carries would be given to RB Reggie Bush against the Buffalo Bills if Bell isn't able to play this weekend. RB Theo Riddick (hamstring) said he's fine and will play this week.

Fantasy Tip: Bell obviously isn't a safe addition to your FantasyScore lineups this week, but keep an eye on his progress for the rest of the week. If Bell doesn't look like he'll play, Bush ($6,400) has a shot to return nice value.

Wed, 01 Oct 2014 13:10:38 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (concussion) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to wait to see if he is able to practice later in the week and play in Week 5. Reggie Bush could receive more work if Bell is not able to play and could be a good starting option at $6,600 on FantasyScore.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (head) likely has a concussion, after leaving the Week 4 game against the Detroit Lions due to a head injury. He was taken to the locker room for evaluation and never was able to return. The team did not provide an update after the game, but they would not let him speak to the media after the game, which follows concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: There will likely be more updates available shortly. The team also lost Montell Owens and Theo Riddick to hamstring injuries, so it Reggie Bush was used almost exclusively down the stretch.
