Orioles | Zach Britton avoids arbitration

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 15:40:15 -0800

Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton re-signed a one-year, $6.75 million contract to avoid arbitration Friday, Feb. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Britton has 73 saves over the past two seasons with a 1.77 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP and a 8.9 K/9. His 77.0 ground-ball percentage is equally impressive, and Britton checks out as a second-tier closer. He is an excellent target to hone in on after the top options come off the draft board on draft day.

Orioles | Zach Britton files for arbitration

Sun, 17 Jan 2016 08:01:30 -0800

Baltimore Orioles CL Zach Britton has filed for salary arbitration. He is seeking a one-year deal worth $7.9 million while the team has countered with a $5.6 million offer.

Fantasy Tip: In 64 appearances last season, Britton went 4-1 with a 1.92 ERA and 36 saves. He struck out 79 batters over 65 2/3 innings and led the American League in games finished (58) while making the All-Star team for the first time in his career. He should be one of the first closers selected in all fantasy formats.

Orioles | Zach Britton draws interest

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 10:23:44 -0800

Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton has drawn interest from other teams, but it looks as though the Orioles prefer to hang onto him for now.

Fantasy Tip: The situation with Aroldis Chapman is making other closers more intriguing in trades now. Britton has back-to-back years of 35-plus saves for the O's, and he's had a sub-2.00 ERA in two straight years, too, making him pretty valuable in the closing picture. If he were to be dealt, Darren O'Day would become much more attractive to fantasy owners.

Orioles | Zach Britton making progress

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 18:15:55 -0700

Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton (lat) said he played catch, threw long-toss, pitched of flat ground and threw 10-15 pitches from the mound Friday, Sept. 25, and he said he thinks he could return to action Saturday, Sept. 26.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Britton should be back in action in the next day or two, but don't be surprised if he is put in the game in some non-save situations to ease him back in. You don't need to rush him back into your lineup until he is back handling ninth inning duties.

Orioles | Zach Britton to throw Friday

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 16:50:34 -0700

Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton (lat) is hoping to play some catch Friday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Tip: It doesn't sound like Britton will be available again tomorrow night, and there's a chance he could miss games up through the weekend. Darren O'Day, who recorded another save Thursday afternoon, should continue to see save chance in the ninth inning as long as Britton is on the shelf.

Orioles | Zach Britton's tests favorable

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 11:49:48 -0700

Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton's (lat) MRI exam Tuesday, Sept. 22, showed nothing serious, according to manager Buck Showalter.

Fantasy Tip: Britton is considered day-to-day for now but hasn't pitched since a blown save and loss Sunday. Darren O'Day is likely to continue filling in in the ninth inning for however much longer Britton is sidelined.

Orioles | Zach Britton remains day-to-day

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 13:13:17 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton (lat) is feeling better and may try to play catch Thursday, Sept. 24. He is still considered day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Britton has been having an excellent season with a 2.04 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP, a 11.1 K/9 and 34 saves. Reliever Darren O'Day grabbed the save Tuesday, Sept. 22, and he projects to take care of the ninth inning for the duration of Britton's absence. O'Day is worth owning in all seasonal leagues given the stage of the season and his current role.

Orioles | Zach Britton has strained lat

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 06:26:05 -0700

Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton (lat) has been out with a mild left lat strain since he gave up two ninth inning runs Sept. 15. RP Darren O'Day has filled in some save situations with Britton on the mend.

Fantasy Tip: Britton could be back in a few days, or they could play it cautiously this late in the season. Grab O'Day for a short-term closer fix.

Orioles | Zach Britton available to close

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 13:46:45 -0700

Baltimore Orioles SP Zach Britton said he was available to pitch against the Tampa Bay Rays Friday, Sept. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Britton has been a solid second-tier closer this season, with opportunities being the only thing holding him back slightly. He has a 1.80 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP and a 11.0 K/9 through 60 innings with four wins and 33 saves.

Orioles | Zach Britton piling on the saves

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 06:30:09 -0700

Baltimore Orioles RP Zach Britton notched his 22nd save of the season during the Orioles' 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians Friday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Britton also boasts an impressive line of ratios: 1.93 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 10.2 K/9. He has rattled off nine of his saves since Thursday, June 4, too. Perhaps, Britton isn't deserving of a top-tier mention, but he certainly is close. Barring injury, he'll be in contention for leading the league in saves.
