Ravens | Dennis Pitta cleared to practice

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 07:11:14 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has been cleared to participate in the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has battled two serious hip injuries in recent years and is unlikely to have much fantasy relevance in 2016, especially considering that the Ravens also have TEs Benjamin Watson, Maxx Williams and Crockett Gillmore on their roster. The 30-year-old veteran is not worth drafting in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta can still contribute

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 12:46:13 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has looked good, is moving well and is still capable of being a significant contributor, in the opinion of The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec.

Fantasy Tip: Drafting Pitta is a huge risk with the serious hip issues he's had. Plus, he has Benjamin Watson, Maxx Williams and Crockett Gillmore competing with him. Watson is the best bet among tight ends in Baltimore, but he's still easily in TE2 territory.

Ravens | Maxx Williams tries to stay relevant

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 21:56:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams had a promising finish to his rookie season, but he faces plenty of competition for targets with WR Dennis Pitta back from injury and veteran WR Benjamin Watson joining the fray. He cannot afford to fade into the background with all of the competition.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta encouraged by health

Fri, 27 May 2016 11:40:45 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is "totally confident" in his surgically repaired hip, and he said he feels better than ever before with no lingering health issues. Head coach John Harbaugh said Pitta looks like the Pitta of old during organized team activities. The signs are encouraging, but the team is in non-contact practices so far.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta was once Joe Flacco's favorite target and go-to in the red zone. But the tight end has played in only seven games in the last two years, and the Ravens' tight end depth chart is stacked with the likes of Benjamin Watson, Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams. Assuming Pitta makes it through training camp and the preseason unscathed, he still has an uphill battle to factor into the passing game for fantasy owners. He's a long shot as a low-end TE2.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has suffered two serious hip injuries in a row, and he's a long shot to have any fantasy value this season.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta restructures

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 08:49:01 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta restructured his contract Tuesday, April 12. Terms weren't disclosed, but he will have the chance to earn some of his $5 million base salary in incentives.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta would make a great comeback story, but after two serious hip injuries, he's too big of a risk to draft. Keep an eye on him through camp.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta will try to play

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 07:48:00 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) will attempt to play in 2016, according to a source. Pitta is expected to participate in the team's offseason workouts and the spring practices, with the hope being he will be ready for full contact this summer and into the fall when the season begins.

Fantasy Tip: Now 30, and having missed most of the last two years, Pitta probably isn't worth drafting. He's someone to watch, but the risks are too high with the amount of talent at the position.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta not giving up

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:04:22 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is not giving up on his playing career. "I definitely do want to be on the field playing football," Pitta said. "That's something that I really want to happen." He continues to work toward playing in 2016, but he's unsure if it will actually happen. Pitta will reportedly make $5 million in base salary this year and will count $7.2 million against the salary cap, so he might need to restructure his contract.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has played in only seven games the last two seasons, and the Ravens have drafted Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams in recent seasons, so nothing is guaranteed for Pitta even if he makes a healthy return. Pitta shouldn't be anywhere near your fantasy radar.

Ravens | Still no timetable for Dennis Pitta

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 17:14:28 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) said there still is no timetable on whether he will be able to play football again. The Ravens may consider releasing Pitta at some point this pffseason since he has a $6.6 million salary cap figure for 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has not played in two years because of hip fractures and his future in the NFL is still up in the air. Owners should monitor the situation during the offseason, but he likely will not be a big fantasy option again.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta not calling it quits

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 09:12:55 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) said he has no plans to retire at this time. "We'll see how (the hip) is after the season," Pitta said. "I really want to plan. This is what I want to do and should do."

Fantasy Tip: Pitta's season is over for now, so you can forget about stashing him in deeper formats. Crockett Gillmore ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) will remain Baltimore's No. 1 pass-catching tight end for Joe Flacco, but he's a midrange backup tight end, at best.

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) was advised by doctors that it's not safe to return to game action. His season, and possibly career, are likely over.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta could play

Mon, 09 Nov 2015 15:00:56 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has been performing well during practice and is expected to play this season if he is healthy, according to head coach John Harbaugh. The team has until Wednesday, Nov. 11, to decide if he will be activated or stay on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has been dealing with hip injuries over the last few seasons but is trying to comeback from them. Pitta probably would see limited snaps if he does come back and probably will not be a great fantasy option.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta could retire

Thu, 22 Oct 2015 06:36:54 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) said he would strongly consider retiring if he can't make it back to play this season. "I would like to think that if I can't make it back this year, what's going to change next year?" Pitta said after Wednesday's practice. "For me, in my mind, I'm working to get back this year. If I can't, that might be it."

Fantasy Tip: Pitta is worth monitoring and could be worth a waiver claim if he makes it back.

Ravens | No timetable for Dennis Pitta

Fri, 09 Oct 2015 17:09:06 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has been working out, but it is not known if he will be able to play when he is eligible to be activated from the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Pitta can start participating in practice as soon as Monday, Oct. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has struggled with hip problems over the last few seasons, and it is uncertain whether he will be able to play again if he continues to have problems. Pitta likely would not play until later in the season if he is cleared and should remain on the waiver wire for an extended period of time.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta's status unknown

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 09:07:10 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta's (hip) status is unknown as to whether he will play this season, according to QB Joe Flacco.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta will miss at least the first six games of the season on the PUP, and he's not draftable at this point. He could be a valuable waiver pickup later in the season if he's healthy.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta to remain on PUP list

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 12:13:06 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) will stay on the Physically Unable to Perform list when the regular season begins, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Pitta will now miss at least the first six games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams will take over the reins at the tight end position. Gillmore is expected to start, but Williams should see a good amount of playing time as well. Consider Gillmore a lower-end TE2.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta officially goes on PUP list

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 14:05:19 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) was officially placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Friday, July 24.

Fantasy Tip: The starting tight end job is looking more and more like it's Crockett Gillmore's to lose. If Pitta opens the season on the PUP list, he'll be forced to miss at least the first six games of the season. Gillmore should be taken as a TE2 with Maxx Williams also in the mix.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta to open on PUP

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 05:41:07 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is expected to open the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list, according to sources. This would mean he'll miss at least the first six games. He has rehabilitated the hip to the point where he's able to do some route running and individual drills, but wasn't allowed to fully participate during the Ravens' offseason practices.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta shouldn't be drafted if this is the case, but he's one to watch on waivers because he could still make an impact late in the season.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta may start camp on PUP list

Fri, 03 Jul 2015 16:53:10 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has not been cleared to practice at this point and could begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta continues to work his way back from two hip surgeries, so owners should see what his status is when camp starts. Pitta could have a role in the passing game this season if he is healthy enough to play. He could be an option in the late rounds of deeper league drafts but is not a reliable option at this point.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta not cleared

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 11:19:29 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) was not medically cleared to practice in minicamp as he continues to recover from his second dislocated and fractured hip in as many years. Even if he's cleared, Pitta will need to decide for himself if he wants to continue playing.

Fantasy Tip: Maxx Williams certainly hinders the fantasy value of Pitta if Pitta is able to and/or wants to return. He has a ways to go before even being considered to draft.

Ravens | BAL not counting Dennis Pitta out

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 11:55:25 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has been able to some things during organized team activities, and head coach John Harbaugh indicated Pitta may be able to play in 2015. "Dennis is out there for about half the practice and he's doing a good job, too, so we're not counting him out at all," Harbaugh said. It is not known if Pitta will start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta is working his way back from a second hip injury, and his status for training camp is uncertain at this point. Pitta has played only seven games over the last two seasons and will be a risky fantasy option this season because of his injury history.

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 05:24:22 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) caught balls on the sidelines and was moving well in organized team activities last week. He was limited to individual work.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has several hurdles to climb before giving optimism for being ready at the start of the season. He's coming off two major hip injuries and is worth a flyer as a TE2.

Sat, 16 May 2015 16:06:21 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) will likely begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta optimistic

Sat, 16 May 2015 07:40:17 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) said he is feeling good and is optimistic about playing in 2015. He has been participating in offseason workouts and is allowed to run and cut. Pitta has also been running routes and catching patches during practice.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta's status for 2015 is still uncertain at this time, so owners should continue to monitor the situation. Pitta is a risky option in fantasy leagues next season and could be a better No. 2 tight end for owners than a starting tight end.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta not in Ravens' future?

Mon, 04 May 2015 14:18:48 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) may have an unclear future in Baltimore if he is even able to play next season. TE Maxx Williams was selected in the second round and is primed to take over Pitta's role if necessary.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has been dealing with serious hip issues for years now, so it's unclear just how effective he will be if he does take the field. If he can play, there could be somewhat of a committee approach with Pitta and Williams. Neither should be looked at as a TE1 this year.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta in conditioning program

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 15:39:53 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is participating in the team's voluntary conditioning program that started Monday, April 20. Pitta's career remains in doubt after fracturing his right hip twice in the past two seasons and the Ravens don't expect to know his availability for the 2015 season until the summer.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta collected a career high seven receiving touchdowns in 2012 but has been limited to just seven games in the two seasons since. Set to turn 29 years old in June, a healthy Pitta can still be a valuable fantasy asset at one of the thinnest positions.

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 11:44:07 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has not heard anything definitive from doctors about getting cleared for football activities, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh said the hip is healthy enough to live a great life, but football is unknown.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta is coming off two major hip injuries, and could likely be available as a late-TE2 in traditional drafts this fall.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta's status in question

Thu, 05 Feb 2015 07:41:32 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is a question mark entering the 2015 season, and head coach John Harbaugh was noncommittal about Pitta's status a couple of weeks ago. The team will likely address the situation in the offseason because TE Crockett Gillmore is the only other tight end under contract.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta is immensely talented, but he has had two major hip injuries. He's likely to be available for a late-TE2 flyer in traditional drafts.

Harbaugh said he has talked with the team's trainer about the situation but does not want to discuss it at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta's status for 2015 is still uncertain, so owners should monitor the situation to receive a better idea on his availability. Pitta could be considered a low-end No. 1 or No. 2 tight end in fantasy drafts if he is able to play next season.

It's unknown if Pitta will try to resume his career after this injury, but teammates are predicting that he'll return.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta can take his time returning since it is just the preseason.
