Fantasy Tip: It's been a rough career of injuries for Pitta, and it's likely a career that is now over. Benjamin Watson, Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams will assume tight end duties with Pitta gone. Watson will start, but he's a No. 2 fantasy tight end.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta likely will miss at least the 2017 season and may have to retire because of the injury. Benjamin Watson and Maxx Williams probably will compete for the starting tight end job during training camp and the winner could be a No. 2 tight end in some leagues.

Fri, 02 Jun 2017 13:15:54 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has had problems with his hips for years and probably will not be able to come back from this latest injury. Benjamin Watson and Maxx Williams likely are the two top candidates to start at tight end for the Ravens and could both be No. 2 fantasy tight ends.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta suffers another hip injury

Fri, 02 Jun 2017 12:28:55 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) reinjured his hip during OTAs on Friday, June 2, and is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury, according to general manager Ozzie Newsome. "This is incredibly disappointing, obviously for Dennis, and for the Ravens," Newsome said in a statement.

Fantasy Tip: It was reportedly a non-contact injury and Pitta could not put any weight on his leg when trying to get up. This is at least his third hip injury and the tone of Newsome's statement suggests they are not optimistic about it. No. 2 tight end Benjamin Watson is recovering from a torn Achilles', while Maxx Williams underwent offseason knee surgery. As a result, Gary Barnidge may be getting a call very soon.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta takes pay cut

Wed, 22 Mar 2017 06:50:58 -0700

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta took a $2.5 million pay cut over the next two seasons. He will make $2.5 million in base salary in 2017 along with a $500,000 roster bonus. He was previously scheduled to earn $5.5 million. This gives Baltimore an additional $2.5 million in cap space in 2017 and 2018.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta led all tight ends with 86 catches last year. Coming off of two serious hip injuries with his career in limbo, it was an outstanding feat. His 729 yards not withstanding, his 8.5 yards per catch and two touchdowns left a lot to be desired. He's a low-end TE1 in standard formats, but he'll receive a slight boost in PPR leagues entering his age-32 season.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta reworks deal

Fri, 10 Mar 2017 14:46:08 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta will remain with the team after he agreed to restructure his contract, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta had a solid 2016 season and finished with 729 yards and two touchdowns. He likely will be the starting tight end for the Ravens and should receive a solid amount of targets in the passing game. Pitta should be considered a No. 2 tight end in most fantasy leagues.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta asked to take pay cut

Wed, 08 Mar 2017 11:28:11 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta has been asked to take a pay cut so the team can create salary cap space. Nothing between the two sides is imminent at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta could be released if he refuses to take a pay cut, so owners will need to monitor the situation. He is coming off a solid 2016 season and has a good chance to start for a team next season. He probably should be considered a No. 2 fantasy tight end at this point.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta could become free agent

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 19:30:10 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta is due to make $5.5 million in each of the last two years of his contract, but there is speculation the team may not want to pay him that much despite the fact he is coming off a career-high 86-catch season, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta led all tight ends in receptions in 2016, but he is set to enter his age-32 season and the Ravens could use more cap room, so a parting of ways is likely if he balks at a pay cut. Pitta has long been Joe Flacco's most trusted option, so it's hard to imagine him coming anywhere close to matching last year's production with another team. If he is released, he's a good bet for TE2 production next season at best, even if he can stay healthy.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta may be asked to rework deal

Wed, 18 Jan 2017 15:16:46 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta may be asked to restructure his contract this offseason because of his high salary cap figure for 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta missed most of the 2014 season and all of the 2015 season because of hip injuries but was able to finish this season with 86 catches for 729 yards and two touchdowns. There is a good chance that he will stay with the Ravens and can be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end or a No. 2 tight end in most fantasy drafts.

Sun, 01 Jan 2017 13:35:24 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta caught 11 passes for 91 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta came back from several major hip injuries over the last few years and had a very good 2016 season. He should have a bigger role in the passing game in 2017 and can be a solid No. 1 tight end for owners.

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta finished with eight catches for 75 yards on a team-high 11 in a 31-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, Dec. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Big games are rare for Pitta, who is generally just a safety valve for Joe Flacco. He has finished with 34 yards or less in six of his last eight games and should be viewed as a TE2 heading into Week 17.

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta posted just four receptions for 18 yards in the Week 14 game against the New England Patriots Monday, Dec. 12. He was targeted five times.

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta posted nine receptions for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Week 13 game against the Miami Dolphins. He was targeted 11 times.

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta caught four passes for 40 yards against the New York Jets in Week 7.

Sun, 16 Oct 2016 17:19:21 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta rolled up six receptions for 36 yards in the Week 6 game against the New York Giants. He was targeted a team-high 10 times.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta suffered a debilitating hip injury a couple of seasons ago, and he has taken two full seasons to get back to 100 percent healthy. He finally looks healthy and is productive again. He is worth a look as a bye-week replacement and TE1 in PPR fantasy leagues of 14 or more teams.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta catches seven passes

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 15:08:04 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta caught seven passes for 59 yards against the Washington Redskins in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has caught at least six passes in three of the five games this season but has posted more than 42 yards in only two games. Pitta could be considered a low-end No. 1 tight end or a possible flex option in most leagues.

Sun, 25 Sep 2016 14:48:32 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta caught six passes for 42 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has taken control of the starting tight end job with the Ravens and has been targeted 20 times over the last two games. Pitta could be a low-end No. 1 tight end in deeper leagues or one of the better No. 2 tight end in standard leagues.

Tue, 20 Sep 2016 16:54:51 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta is tied for first among tight ends with 12 catches. He is second with 141 yards and he is third with 16 targets.

Fantasy Tip: Time will tell if Pitta is back for good or if his recent production is an anomaly. He figures to continue to be the No. 1 tight end in Baltimore with Benjamin Watson out for the year. If Pitta is available and you're in need of a tight end, pick him up.

Sun, 18 Sep 2016 14:20:22 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta caught nine passes for 102 yards against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta was targeted 12 times during the game and appears to have a strong hold of the starting tight end job. He is still a risky player for owners because of his injury history, but he should be at least a No. 2 tight end in most leagues that can start against favorable matchups.

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 09:15:25 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TEs Dennis Pitta (finger) and Maxx Williams (knee) are active for the team's Week 1 game.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta will be the starting tight end and will be playing for the first time in several years. He will be a risky option because of his injury history but could be used in deeper leagues. Williams should receive a few targets but is not a strong fantasy option.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta to start Sunday

Sun, 11 Sep 2016 06:27:29 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) will start Week 1's game against the Buffalo Bills Sunday, Sept. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta is playing for the first time since suffering a major hip injury in 2014, so he should be viewed as a risky option in all fantasy formats. Owners may want to see him in a game or two before they consider using him in their lineups.

Thu, 08 Sep 2016 13:28:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and Maxx Williams (knee) were full participants in practice Thursday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta and Williams should get some run with Benjamin Watson out for the year, but Crockett Gillmore is a better bet. That being said, the Ravens' tight end position is one to stay away from.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta, Maxx Williams practice

Wed, 07 Sep 2016 13:12:15 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and TE Maxx Williams (knee) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known how Pitta and Williams will be used, but both should receive some targets in Week 1. Pitta is a risky option since he has not played in a few years, so owners may want to see him play in a game before considering using him. Williams will have to share snaps and is not a great fantasy option at this point.

Sat, 03 Sep 2016 08:19:36 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed) are participating in practice Saturday, Sept. 3.

Fantasy Tip: It appears like Pitta and Williams will have a chance to play in Week 1, but owners should monitor the situation. Pitta has a chance to be the starting tight end with Benjamin Watson out for the season, but he likely will have a solid role in the passing game even if he does not start. Pitta probably should be considered a No. 2 tight end in most leagues but could be an option for owners in daily fantasy leagues against favorable matchups.

Ravens | Two Ravens TEs on the mend

Mon, 29 Aug 2016 09:47:17 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and TE Maxx Williams (undisclosed) are expected to return to practice shortly after the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: The loss of Benjamin Watson (Achilles') for the season opened a gaping hole at tight end that only Crockett Gillmore is healthy enough to fill for now. Pitta has the most upside if he can return to something resembling his pre-injury form. All three are in the TE2 area in fantasy until someone separates themselves from the pack.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta has broken finger

Mon, 22 Aug 2016 09:20:43 -0700

Updating previous reports, Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) is sidelined due to a broken finger, and there is concern that he could need a screw inserted if he returns before it heals.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta was already facing tall odds at returning from two major hip surgeries, and he's little more than a low-end TE2 in fantasy.

Mon, 08 Aug 2016 06:30:53 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) and TE Crockett Gillmore (hamstring) are out of practice Monday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta is coming back from two major hip injuries, and he has tall odds against him. Both tight ends will compete with Benjamin Watson and Maxx Williams. Whichever comes out on top will be a TE2 in fantasy.

Ravens | Competition helping Maxx Williams

Sat, 06 Aug 2016 17:46:59 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams has looked healthier and stronger during training camp this year, according to beat writer Mike Preston, and Preston believes the added competition from TE Dennis Pitta and TE Benjamin Watson is making Williams a better player.

Fantasy Tip: The added competition may help him improve as a player, but it is also going to eat into Williams' targets and prevent him from being a worthwhile fantasy option. Outside of dynasty leagues, he can be left undrafted.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta nursing finger injury

Mon, 01 Aug 2016 21:54:59 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (finger) suffered a finger injury in a scuffle at training camp Monday, Aug. 1. He is expected to miss a few days.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta is making his way back from a major hip injury, so this minor ailment is nothing. It remains to be seen how useful he'll be on the field and for fantasy owners. If he makes it all the way back to his pre-injury form he is a Top 15 option at his position.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta wants to start

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 13:07:53 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) said he wants to win the starting tight end job during training camp. He said he does not believe that he has lost a step even though he missed the last two years because of hip problems.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation during the preseason to see how Pitta is used in the offense. He was able to post solid numbers before he suffered his hip injuries but is now a risky option for fantasy owners. He is competing for playing time with Benjamin Watson and Maxx Williams, so he may not be a great option in some fantasy leagues.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta cleared to practice

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 07:11:14 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has been cleared to participate in the start of training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has battled two serious hip injuries in recent years and is unlikely to have much fantasy relevance in 2016, especially considering that the Ravens also have TEs Benjamin Watson, Maxx Williams and Crockett Gillmore on their roster. The 30-year-old veteran is not worth drafting in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta can still contribute

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 12:46:13 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) has looked good, is moving well and is still capable of being a significant contributor, in the opinion of The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec.

Fantasy Tip: Drafting Pitta is a huge risk with the serious hip issues he's had. Plus, he has Benjamin Watson, Maxx Williams and Crockett Gillmore competing with him. Watson is the best bet among tight ends in Baltimore, but he's still easily in TE2 territory.

Ravens | Maxx Williams tries to stay relevant

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 21:56:27 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Maxx Williams had a promising finish to his rookie season, but he faces plenty of competition for targets with WR Dennis Pitta back from injury and veteran WR Benjamin Watson joining the fray. He cannot afford to fade into the background with all of the competition.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta encouraged by health

Fri, 27 May 2016 11:40:45 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is "totally confident" in his surgically repaired hip, and he said he feels better than ever before with no lingering health issues. Head coach John Harbaugh said Pitta looks like the Pitta of old during organized team activities. The signs are encouraging, but the team is in non-contact practices so far.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta was once Joe Flacco's favorite target and go-to in the red zone. But the tight end has played in only seven games in the last two years, and the Ravens' tight end depth chart is stacked with the likes of Benjamin Watson, Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams. Assuming Pitta makes it through training camp and the preseason unscathed, he still has an uphill battle to factor into the passing game for fantasy owners. He's a long shot as a low-end TE2.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has suffered two serious hip injuries in a row, and he's a long shot to have any fantasy value this season.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta restructures

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 08:49:01 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta restructured his contract Tuesday, April 12. Terms weren't disclosed, but he will have the chance to earn some of his $5 million base salary in incentives.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta would make a great comeback story, but after two serious hip injuries, he's too big of a risk to draft. Keep an eye on him through camp.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta will try to play

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 07:48:00 -0700

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) will attempt to play in 2016, according to a source. Pitta is expected to participate in the team's offseason workouts and the spring practices, with the hope being he will be ready for full contact this summer and into the fall when the season begins.

Fantasy Tip: Now 30, and having missed most of the last two years, Pitta probably isn't worth drafting. He's someone to watch, but the risks are too high with the amount of talent at the position.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta not giving up

Wed, 17 Feb 2016 10:04:22 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) is not giving up on his playing career. "I definitely do want to be on the field playing football," Pitta said. "That's something that I really want to happen." He continues to work toward playing in 2016, but he's unsure if it will actually happen. Pitta will reportedly make $5 million in base salary this year and will count $7.2 million against the salary cap, so he might need to restructure his contract.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has played in only seven games the last two seasons, and the Ravens have drafted Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams in recent seasons, so nothing is guaranteed for Pitta even if he makes a healthy return. Pitta shouldn't be anywhere near your fantasy radar.

Ravens | Still no timetable for Dennis Pitta

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 17:14:28 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) said there still is no timetable on whether he will be able to play football again. The Ravens may consider releasing Pitta at some point this pffseason since he has a $6.6 million salary cap figure for 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has not played in two years because of hip fractures and his future in the NFL is still up in the air. Owners should monitor the situation during the offseason, but he likely will not be a big fantasy option again.

Ravens | Dennis Pitta not calling it quits

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 09:12:55 -0800

Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (hip) said he has no plans to retire at this time. "We'll see how (the hip) is after the season," Pitta said. "I really want to plan. This is what I want to do and should do."

Fantasy Tip: Pitta's season is over for now, so you can forget about stashing him in deeper formats. Crockett Gillmore ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) will remain Baltimore's No. 1 pass-catching tight end for Joe Flacco, but he's a midrange backup tight end, at best.

Fantasy Tip: Pitta has been dealing with hip injuries over the last few seasons but is trying to comeback from them. Pitta probably would see limited snaps if he does come back and probably will not be a great fantasy option.
