Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (elbow) will not play winter ball in the Dominican Republic, general manager Terry Ryan confirmed Friday, Oct. 24. Sano has not had any setbacks after Tommy John surgery, but "doctors do not want him to play," Ryan said.

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (elbow) has been cleared to start a throwing program after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. He was examined by Dr. David Altchek Monday, July 7. It's unknown if Sano will be able to serve as a designated hitter in minor league games late this year, but the team is hoping he can. Sano will be allowed to take part in the Arizona Fall League and Dominican Winter League. He could be cleared to swing a bat next month.
Fantasy Tip: Sano is the future for Minnesota at third base. His raw power at the dish makes him a prized prospect next year.

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (elbow) had Tommy John surgery Wednesday, March 12, and he's very optimistic about his return to action later this year. "Thank God, everything went well. I think I'll be playing baseball in the fall, but I'm between playing in the Arizona Fall League or winter ball in the Dominican Republic," Sano said. He'll be working on his rehab program in Florida this summer.

Sano is expected to rehab for eight months, and he could see action as the designated hitter in minor league games later this year. In addition, 1B Kennys Vargas was sent to Double-A New Britain, and INF Jorge Polanco and OF Max Kepler were optioned to Class A Fort Myers (FSL).
