Orioles | Caleb Joseph hopeful to return Wednesday

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 15:31:19 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph (testicle) could be activated from the disabled list Wednesday, June 29, if he feels good catching for Class A Frederick Monday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Jospeh is a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only setups, as he owns a .182/.239/.212 slash line through 71 plate appearances this season. His return will force Francisco Pena back to the minors.

Orioles | Caleb Joseph still not able to catch

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 15:34:25 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph (testicle) will not be cleared to catch in a game until Monday, June 27, but he can catch bullpens, run, throw and serve as the designated hitter in the meantime.

Fantasy Tip: Injured and sitting with a .182/.239/.212 slash line through 71 plate appearances this season, Joseph isn't worth a roster spot in any fantasy format at this point. When healthy, he's a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only setups. Francisco Pena is backing up Matt Wieters in the meantime, but Pena is nothing more than a desperation own.

Orioles | Caleb Joseph to play in rehab game

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 19:10:17 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph (testicle) will play in a minor-league rehab game for Class AA Bowie Wednesday, June 15, serving as the designated hitter, manager Buck Showalter said.

Fantasy Tip: It's still uncertain when Joseph will be back as the understudy for Matt Wieters. When healthy he is best used as a No. 2 receiver in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues and as a DFS option when he starts.

Orioles | Caleb Jospeh can't catch for a month

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 13:47:18 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph (testicle) is able to do just about anything post surgery, but he will not be able to catch for a month.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph should be replaced in all formats. Francisco Pena is backing up Matt Wieters, and Pena is worth a look as a desperation grab in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues. Stay tuned for updates.

Orioles | No timetable for Caleb Joseph

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 21:37:04 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph (testicle) was hit in the groin area by a foul ball and he landed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 31. Manager Buck Showalter indicated Wednesday, June 1, that there is no timetable for Joseph's return.

Fantasy Tip: With Joseph on the shelf it will be Francisco Pena serving as the backup to Matt Wieters. Joseph was doing next to nothing offensively before his injury, so drop him if you need the roster space in fantasy.

Orioles | Caleb Joseph to DL

Tue, 31 May 2016 11:43:18 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph (testicle) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a testicular injury suffered in the team's game Monday, May 30. C Francisco Pena was recalled from Class AAA Norfolk on Tuesday, May 31, in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph's injury will create a small hole in the Oriole catching corps for the foreseeable future. Look for Matt Wieters to move from a DH role to one where he serves more as a catcher. Pena does not have a ton of fantasy value, except maybe in DFS leagues if he starts and hits. Otherwise, leave him alone.

Orioles | Caleb Joseph snaps hitless skid

Mon, 30 May 2016 21:07:04 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph snapped an 0-for-19 hitless drought Monday, May 30, against the Boston Red Sox. He finished 1-for-3.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph is still hitting just .182 on the season and can only be trusted as a No. 2 receiver in the deepest of AL-only fantasy formats.

Orioles | Caleb Joseph taken to hospital

Mon, 30 May 2016 15:32:38 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Caleb Joseph (groin) was taken to the hospital as a precaution after the team's game Monday, May 30, against the Boston Red Sox. He was hit by a foul ball earlier in the contest.

Fantasy Tip: Considering he didn't have to depart during the ballgame and was able to wait until afterwards to get to the hospital, this doesn't seem like something that will sideline him. He's not worth owning in any format anyway with his depressing .182/.239/.212 line. However, if he does have to miss any games, Matt Wieters would get a boost.

Orioles | Baltimore resting three players

Mon, 30 May 2016 08:48:49 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters, 3B Pedro Alvarez and OF Joey Rickard are not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Steven Wright Monday, May 30. OF Nolan Reimold will start in right field and is batting seventh in the lineup. 2B Ryan Flaherty will start at third base and is batting eighth, while C Caleb Joseph will start at catcher and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Reimold is hitting only .167 over the last seven days but does have a .297 batting average this season. He should still have some fantasy value and can be an option for desperate owners in daily fantasy leagues. Flaherty and Joseph should be avoided in all fantasy leagues because they have struggled at the plate.

Orioles | Matt Wieters resting Friday

Fri, 27 May 2016 13:40:47 -0700

Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 27. C Caleb Joseph is catching and is hitting ninth against Cleveland Indians SP Trevor Bauer.

Fantasy Tip: Joseph will leave the yard every now and then, but he's hitting only .190 (11-for-58) on the year with no homers or RBI. It's safe to say he's one to avoid in daily setups tonight.
