Jets | Jace Amaro struggling

Wed, 25 Jun 2014 09:16:05 -0700

New York Jets rookie TE Jace Amaro is struggling in his initial workouts. The no-huddle, spread system at Texas Tech is significantly different from the Jets' deeper pro-style playbook. He looked lost in three-wide packages and needs to polish his routes, in-line position, footwork and releases.

Fantasy Tip: Amaro may be overvalued in fantasy drafts based on his college history and raw talent. But if he loses any time to Jeff Cumberland, Zach Sudfeld or Chris Pantale, that's burying him further into waiver-wire territory. For keeper leagues, of course, he's an intriguing hold if you can sit on a TE backup.

Jets | Kellen Winslow was unhappy with PT

Tue, 12 Nov 2013 11:07:02 -0800

New York Jets TE Kellen Winslow believes he was "weeded out" of the game plan in Week 5 as the team prepared for his four-game suspension. "Stuff goes on behind the scenes that ... look, they knew I was going to get suspended," Winslow said. "Sometimes you just kind of get weeded out or whatever. I knew I wasn't going to take the appeal if I got suspended. My knee was hurting, I'm weeded out of the game plan ... it was just a frustrating time." TE Jeff Cumberland was given a bigger role as a result, and Winslow played in only 19 snaps.

Fantasy Tip: Expect the Jets to start getting Winslow involved again, but it may come gradually with Cumberland still in the mix. Consider Winslow a backup option for now, but he may have low-end TE1 appeal based on matchups.

Jets | Kellen Winslow back from suspension

Tue, 05 Nov 2013 11:25:00 -0800

New York Jets TE Kellen Winslow has returned to the team following his four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. "I think it was something over my allergies, some medicine I was taking and it was on the banned substance list. It's just life. You deal with stuff. People that know me know I'm not trying to gain an edge or something like that illegally. I respect the game too much for that."

Fantasy Tip: Winslow should return to the primary tight end duties, pushing Jeff Cumberland down and making him largely unplayable in fantasy leagues. Winslow is on a bye in Week 10, but look to add him as a strong backup option for the rest of the season.

New York Jets TE Zach Sudfeld saw an increase in playing time in Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints with TE Jeff Cumberland (concussion) inactive and TE Kellen Winslow (suspended) serving the last game of a suspension. Sudfeld had two receptions for 46 yards.

Fantasy Tip: With Cumberland and Winslow expected to return in Week 11 after the team's bye, the playing time for Sudfeld is likely to dry up. Avoid him for fantasy purposes.

Jets | Jeff Cumberland leaves game

Sun, 27 Oct 2013 17:59:32 -0700

New York Jets TE Jeff Cumberland (head) left the Week 8 game against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a head injury.

Fantasy Tip: The head injury explains why Cumberland ended up with just one catch, and two targets, for nine yards. Avoid him in Week 9.

Jets | More targets likely for Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley

Fri, 25 Oct 2013 17:58:24 -0700

With New York Jets WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring) ruled out for the Week 8 game against the Cincinnti Bengals, WRs Stephen Hill, Jeremy Kerley (hamstring) and even David Nelson (hamstring) are likely to see more targets, as might TE Jeff Cumberland.

Fantasy Tip: Hill and Kerley are worth a look as a WR4 or flex play in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams, and Cumberland is a decent bye-week replacement if you primary option is off. However, you can mostly ignore Nelson for fantasy purposes.
