Giants | Victor Cruz should fully recover

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 15:18:26 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is dealing with a torn fascia in his calf -- a rare injury. He is still expected to make a full recovery and should avoid any long-term issues.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz has dealt with his fair share of injuries over the last couple years, missing 12 games over that span. In the meantime, Odell Beckham Jr. has taken over the world and supplanted Cruz as New York's go-to receiver. Drafting Cruz as more than a WR3 next season may be a risk.

Giants | Victor Cruz out for season

Mon, 16 Nov 2015 07:02:22 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) announced he's having season-ending surgery on his left calf and will miss the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Rueben Randle will continue to be in the mix, but he has only had one breakout game this season with middling outputs around 50 yards. He's a matchup flex option on FantasyScore after the team's Week 11 bye.

Giants | Victor Cruz ruled out

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 12:54:52 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (knee, calf) has been ruled out of the Week 10 game against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is starting to do more on the field but is probably a few weeks away from playing. Rueben Randle ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) should continue to see a solid among of targets and could be a decent starting option on FantasyScore.

Giants | Victor Cruz to start running routes

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 05:50:32 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) will begin running individual routes Saturday, Nov. 14. They'll slowly add in throwing a ball and eventually move to longer routes. The next step would be practice. Cruz had a second platelet-rich plasma injection about three weeks ago and said he won't rush back. "I think I'll play it a little bit safer," Cruz said. "If there is any pain, I'll shut it down. You don't want to wake up anything. If there is any soreness, we shut it down. We kind of make sure we're staying under the radar as the training staff likes to call it."

Fantasy Tip: Rueben Randle ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) has been filling in for Cruz, but he has a date with the New England Patriots this week. He's a midrange flex option on FantasyScore.

Giants | Victor Cruz out of practice

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 12:54:33 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) did not practice again Thursday, Nov. 12, and is not expected to play in Week 10 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: At this point it's fair to wonder if Cruz ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) will make it back to play at all this year. He should be left to waiver wires in all fantasy formats.

Giants | Two Giants miss practice

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 14:33:34 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) and TE Larry Donnell (neck) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Both Cruz and Donnell didn't practice all of last week either and didn't play, so this could be another downward trend. Rueben Randle ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) would be worth a hard look on FantasyScore after a productive Week 10 in Cruz's absence. Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4%) would likely start for Donnell again if Donnell is out, but he didn't do much last week and can be looked past.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) and TE Larry Donnell (neck) were out of practice all week and are out for Week 9.

Fantasy Tip: Will Tye ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is a basement option at tight end on FantasyScore against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Giants | Victor Cruz does some running

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 17:30:28 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) did some running on the side during practice Thursday, Nov. 5, in order to test his injured calf. Cruz said he hopes to be able to play after the team's Week 11 bye.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is still probably a few weeks away from returning, so owners should avoid him for now. Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) should continue to see targets in the passing game and could be a solid starting option.

Giants | Victor Cruz misses practice

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 15:02:27 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) sat out of practice again Thursday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz's timetable still isn't known, but it's not likely that he'll return this week. Dwayne Harris ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) has played well the last two weeks, better than Rueben Randle, and is worth a shot on FantasyScore at such a cheap price.

Giants | No timetable for Victor Cruz

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:28:48 -0800

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) still has no timetable for his return, according to head coach Tom Coughlin.

Fantasy Tip: It's shaping up as a lost season for Cruz ($2,800, 5.6% of cap), who's lined up to miss another game this weekend. In shallow traditional leagues, he doesn't have much business being on anyone's roster for now, and he could end up missing most of the remainder of this season.

Giants | Rueben Randle, Victor Cruz absent

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 14:06:06 -0800

New York Giants WRs Rueben Randle (hamstring) and Victor Cruz (calf) did not practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Randle tweaked his hamstring last week and Cruz has been hampered all season. Cruz is more likely to sit than Randle, but if both sit, Dwayne Harris would make for a great play on FantasyScore at just $2,000 (4.0% of cap).

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) did not participate in practice again Thursday, Oct. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) will probably be shelved again this week. Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6) and Dwayne Harris ($2,000, 4.0%) will be the primary backups behind Odell Beckham Jr ($8,200, 16.4%). They all have a fairly good matchup versus the New Orleans Saints.

Giants | Victor Cruz misses practice

Wed, 28 Oct 2015 12:35:45 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Fantasy Tip: It's looking like Cruz will be sidelined again. It's still unclear when he'll be able to return this season, if at all. Odell Beckham Jr. is still New York's top target, but Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) and Dwayne Harris ($2,000, 4.0%) aren't bad value plays on FantasyScore this week with Cruz likely still sitting.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) probably will another week because of the injury, but owners can monitor the situation to see if things change. Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) likely will continue to see more playing time if Cruz is sidelined.

Giants | Victor Cruz unlikely to play

Wed, 21 Oct 2015 09:45:58 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is not expected to play in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys, and he's undergoing another MRI exam Wednesday, Oct. 21. He's been feeling better but will likely miss another game.

Fantasy Tip: There remains no timetable for Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) to make his 2015 season debut, so he should be very far off your FantasyScore radar. While he remains out, both Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) and Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) are perfectly acceptable daily picks.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is without pain in his calf, according a source. He'll have an MRI Wednesday, Oct. 21, and could return to practice.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) will likely need a week or two of practice before a realistic shot at playing. He could be worth a low-end grab on FantasyScore eventually.

Fantasy Tip: There is still no timetable for Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap), so owners should continue to monitor the situation. Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) likely will continue to see more targets with Cruz out and could be a starting option.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is expected to miss another week and there is no definite timetable for his return. Rueben Randle ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) could be the team's No. 1 receiver if he is active against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6 and could be a starting option for owners.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) has been ruled out for Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers.

Fantasy Tip: There is no timetable for Cruz's ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) return. Avoid him in all formats for the foreseeable future. Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) should be a strong pick on FantasyScore, and Rueben Randle ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) remains a nice value play with Cruz still sidelined.

Fantasy Tip: There remains no timetable for Cruz's ($3,300, 6.6% of cap), so you'll need to remain very patient in standard leagues. It'll be a while before he's an acceptable pick on FantasyScore, as he'll likely be eased back in when he's ready to play in games.

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) isn't doing much, but he's able to keep his knee strong, according to head coach Tom Coughlin.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz isn't expected back any time soon. Rueben Randle ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) should continue to see more targets with Cruz out, and he's a worthwhile flex against the San Francisco 49ers on FantasyScore.

Giants | Victor Cruz to have another MRI

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 09:40:41 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf), who has already been ruled out for Week 4 after suffering a setback in practice Wednesday, Sept. 30, will go for another MRI exam. There is no timetable for Cruz's return.

Fantasy Tip: You'll need to stay patient if you own Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) if you own him in traditional leagues. Don't expect him to immediately contribute when he returns, either. In the meantime on FantasyScore, both Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) and Rueben Randle ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) will continue to see plenty of looks from Eli Manning and are acceptable picks. Beckham will likely be a popular weekly selection all season long.

Fantasy Tip: Rueben Randle ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is coming off a 7-116-1 line in Week 3, but he faces a tough Buffalo defense in Week 4. He's still in the area of a low-priced flex consideration on FantasyScore.

Giants | Victor Cruz in doubt for Sunday

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 12:33:18 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) is now in doubt to return in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills after aggravating a left calf issue in practice Wednesday, Sept. 30. It could be several more games before he returns to the lineup. It was Cruz's first practice since Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: It just keeps getting worse and worse for Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) and his fantasy owners. He should be off limits this week on FantasyScore. Odell Beckham Jr. ($8,300, 16.6% of cap) and Rueben Randle ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) will continue to benefit from more looks in Cruz's absence, although a matchup against a stout Buffalo Bills defense this week might make it tough for them to return notable value in daily formats.

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 11:00:27 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) felt his calf injury in individual drills in practice Wednesday, Sept. 30, according to head coach Tom Coughlin.

Fantasy Tip: You can probably stick a fork in Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) for Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills. Rueben Randle ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) had a big 7-116-1 week against the Washington Redskins last week and is worth the FantasyScore flyer.

Giants | Victor Cruz convinced he'll play

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 10:30:18 -0700

Updating previous reports, New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) finally feels like himself again and is "convinced" that he will make his season debut against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. Cruz has no pain in his left calf or right knee, although he hasn't taken part in a full practice yet. Head coach Tom Coughlin said the return of Cruz will open up the team's playbook and make them more dynamic. "I think the training staff kind of wants me to pace it, to not just go from 0 to 100," Cruz said. "Just kind of take it and kind of go incremental throughout the week and get myself ready to play."

Fantasy Tip: Don't be as optimistic on Cruz ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) as he is. Keep a close eye on how much he does in practice this week. Even if he's active for the first time in 2015, there's a very good chance his presence on offense will be limited, making him an extremely risky daily commodity.

Giants | Victor Cruz works out

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 11:36:57 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) ran routes and caught passes on a side field during the team's walkthrough Monday, Sept. 28, and believes he will be able to play against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. The team plans to have Cruz practice Wednesday, Sept. 30, and possibly again Thursday, Oct. 1, if he does not have any problems. Cruz could be held out another game if he has any problems with his knee or calf.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor this situation during the week to see if Cruz will be able to play against the Bills. Cruz could see limited snap if he is active for Week 4, so owners may want to see him play in a game before considering him as a starting option.

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 09:36:58 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf, knee) said he is 100% healthy and ready to play in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Tip: The Giants face a tough matchup against the Bills this weekend, and there's a chance that New York keeps Cruz on a pitch count for his season debut. Avoiding Cruz this week is the safe play on FantasyScore.

Giants | Victor Cruz may be ready for Week 4

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 06:46:50 -0700

New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) is on track to play in the Week 4 game against the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Tom Coughlin. Coughlin said he has been told by the medical staff that Cruz should be able to play in the game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor Cruz's practice participation next week to see if he suffers any setback. New York Giants WR Victor Cruz (calf) was able to run sprints before the Week 3 game against the Washington Redskins and is expected to participate in other drills. It appears Cruz has a good chance to be ready for Week 4.
