Astros | A.J. Reed takes a seat

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 16:41:13 -0700

Houston Astros 1B A.J. Reed is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 28. INF Marwin Gonzalez is starting at first base and is hitting sixth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Tim Lincecum.

Fantasy Tip: The burly Reed has plenty of potential, mainly for his monster power at first base, but he's struggled out of the gates in the majors, going hitless in his 10 at-bats with six K's. Keep your expectations in check with Reed, and he could see more time on the bench in favor of Gonzalez in the near future.

Astros | Marwin Gonzalez hitting second against Reds

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 13:59:31 -0700

Houston Astros INF Marwin Gonzalez is starting at first base and is batting second against Cincinnati Reds SP John Lamb Friday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: With Tyler White being sent to the minors Friday, Gonzalez is likely to see regular at-bats at first base for now. Power-hitting prospect A.J. Reed could be on the verge of a call-up, though, and he deserves to be stashed in the majority of seasonal leagues. Gonzalez, a switch-hitter, won't impress in any one area, but he can contribute across the board and gives you added value in deep mixed and AL-only leagues for his positional eligibility.

Astros | Danny Worth starting vs. Cardinals

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 13:55:48 -0700

Houston Astros SS Danny Worth is starting at third base and batting second against St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright Wednesday, June 15. 1B Tyler White and INF Marwin Gonzalez are not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Worth earned a promotion by posting a .340/.449/.550 slash line through 54 games with Class AAA Fresno, so with White struggling (.178/.282/.289 slash line since May 1), Worth could see semi-regular starts going forward. Gonzalez is a victim of Houston not being able to utilize a designated hitter Wednesday. Don't overextend yourself pursuing Worth in deep mixed leagues, as A.J. Reed's likely a hot streak away from being promoted.

Astros | Luis Valbuena, Tyler White out

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 14:12:55 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena and 1B Tyler White are not in the starting lineup against St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia Tuesday, June 14. SS Danny Worth will start at third base and is batting fifth, while SS Marwin Gonzalez will start at first base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Worth posted terrific numbers with Class AAA Frisco, but owners probably should avoid him for the time being. Gonzalez is hitting .400 with one RBI over the last seven days. He should have value in deeper leagues and AL-only leagues because of his power potential and position versatility and should be a starting candidate in daily fantasy leagues.

Astros | Carlos Correa, Colby Rasmus out Sunday

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 08:15:49 -0700

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa (ankle) and OF Colby Rasmus are not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Sunday, June 12. INF Marwin Gonzalez will play shortstop and bat second, while OF Jake Marisnick starts in left field and bats ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is batting .253 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 166 at-bats this year and can be viewed as a productive source of cap relief in DFS. Marisnick is batting just .187 with 28 strikeouts in 91 at-bats and is not a great fantasy option.

Astros | Carlos Correa out Saturday

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 10:25:46 -0700

Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa (ankle) remains out of the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer Saturday, June 11. INF Marwin Gonzalez will bat second and play shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Correa is considered day-to-day and there is a possibility that he could return to action Sunday, June 12. He should be reinserted into all fantasy lineups as soon as he is able to start again. Gonzalez is 10-for-33 (.303) with three doubles this month and is a productive source of cap relief in DFS games.

Astros | Marwin Gonzalez hitting out of two-hole

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 13:33:27 -0700

Houston Astros INF Marwin Gonzalez is starting at the 6 and is hitting second against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese Friday, June 10. SS Carlos Correa (ankle) is starting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez does have decent power for a middle infielder, but he's hitting only .236 (37-for-157) on the season with four long balls and 13 RBI. He's useful in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues for his multiposition eligibility, and he could be a fine sleeper play in daily formats this evening hitting atop the order.

Astros | Tyler White takes a seat

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 14:26:05 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Tyler White is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 8. INF Marwin Gonzalez is starting at first base and is hitting eighth against Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish.

Fantasy Tip: After storming out of the gates in April, White has fallen drastically and now sports an underwhelming .219/.297/.406 slash line with seven home runs and 19 RBI. His playing time is dwindling, too, and he's an AL-only depth option at this point. Gonzalez isn't much better with a .228/.277/.369 line with four homers and 12 RBI, but he's also stolen seven bags and has multiposition eligibility that plays nicely in deep mixed and AL formats.

Astros | Jason Castro, Luis Valbuena sitting

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 13:49:23 -0700

Houston Astros C Jason Castro and 3B Luis Valbuena are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Cole Hamels Tuesday, June 7. C Evan Gattis is catching and is hitting cleanup, while INF Marwin Gonzalez is at the hot corner and is batting sixth. OF Jake Marisnick also draws into the starting lineup and is hitting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis is a lineup regular and is off to a great start this month, hitting .280 (7-for-25) with four home runs and nine RBI. Continue riding him in all fantasy formats, and he has become an elite catching option now that he has regained eligibility there. Gonzalez and Marisnick are both low-end daily picks this evening, with Gonzalez carrying a little more intrigue because of his power.

Astros | Tyler White not in the lineup

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 13:56:21 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Tyler White is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis Monday, June 6. SS Marwin Gonzalez will start at first base and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez only has seven hits in his last 16 games and currently has a .220 batting average. Owners should be able to find better options for their starting lineup and can avoid Gonzalez.
