Marlins | Miami interested in Drew Pomeranz

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 18:16:19 -0700

The Miami Marlins have expressed interest in trading for San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: The 27-year-old southpaw, who has also drawn interest from the Baltimore Orioles, would probably not see much of a change in fantasy value going from a pitcher-friendly home ballpark to the weak-hitting NL East. Pomeranz is 6-7 with a 3.00 ERA in 14 starts this season and has struck out 96 batters in just 81 innings.

Orioles | Baltimore interested in Drew Pomeranz

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 17:15:40 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles have expressed interest in San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz.

Fantasy Tip: Baltimore is searching for a left-handed starter and is considering making a deal for Pomeranz, who is 6-7 with a 3.00 ERA in 14 starts, with 38 walks and 96 strikeouts over 81 innings. A potential trade from a pitcher-friendly environment like Petco Park to a hitter-friendly one like Camden Yards would be detrimental to his fantasy value in deep mixed leagues.

Padres | Drew Pomeranz gives up five in the first

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 23:20:56 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz allowed five runs, all in the first inning, on five hits and five walks in five innings against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, June 14.

Fantasy Tip: This was Pomeranz's third sub-par outing in his last four, allowing 14 runs on 19 hits in 15 innings over those three starts. He lost all three, dropping his record to 5-7 this year, and his ERA has jumped from 1.70 to 2.88. Don't be hasty in cutting bait on the southpaw, but those in standard leagues might want to set him on the bench until he straightens things out.

Padres | Drew Pomeranz loses to Braves

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 17:16:48 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz dropped to 5-6 on the year after losing his start Wednesday, June 8, versus the Atlanta Braves. He registered five innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk, while also picking up six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This assignment looked like it'd be a cakewalk on paper, as Pomeranz has simply been fabulous against all opponents put in front of him. However, he would end up struggling out of the gate this afternoon against the worst team in the league. Go figure. Despite the unspectacular outing, Pomeranz has been a splendid addition for any fantasy owners who claimed him early on, and that should remain the case while being able to make half his starts at pitcher-friendly Petco Park.

Braves | Atlanta struggles against lefties

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 11:00:19 -0700

The Atlanta Braves have struggled against left-handers this year, as lefty opponents are 10-3 with a 2.10 ERA against them this year. They'll face San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz Wednesday, June 8. Pomeranz has a 1.89 ERA in his last nine starts.

Fantasy Tip: If you were able to score Pomeranz off waivers in your league early in the season, you've been a happy camper. The southpaw is sporting a shiny 2.22 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and is striking out 10.7 hitters per nine innings, mainly with his wipeout curveball. He's a no-brainer play in all fantasy leagues this afternoon against the hapless Braves.

Padres | Drew Pomeranz dominates Rockies

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 23:46:32 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz held the Colorado Rockies to just two hits in seven shutout innings of work on Friday, June 3. He walked two and fanned eight while recording his fifth win of the year.

Fantasy Tip: Coming off a rough showing against the D-Backs, Pomeranz proved it was just a hiccup by not allowing a run for the fourth time in his last six starts. The southpaw is now eighth in the majors in ERA (2.22), 13th in WHIP (1.05) and tied for ninth in strikeouts (77). While poor run support has left him with a 5-5 record, Pomeranz should still be owned in all leagues.

Padres | Drew Pomeranz shelled Sunday

Sun, 29 May 2016 21:02:20 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz allowed a season-high six runs on five hits while walking four and striking out nine over five innings in a loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, May 29.

Fantasy Tip: Don't hit the panic button after one rough start. Stay the course with Pomeranz for now.

Padres | Drew Pomeranz solid in no-decision

Mon, 23 May 2016 23:35:39 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz allowed two hits and four walks while fanning four in seven shutout innings of his no-decision against the San Francisco Giants Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz is 2-2 with a 0.87 ERA, a 0.84 WHIP and 29 K's in 31 innings this month. Pomeranz is a post-hype prospect that has emerged this year. There's no track record for him at this level. If you can sell high and acquire a reliable chip for him, now would be the time to pull the trigger.

Padres | Drew Pomeranz ties career high

Wed, 11 May 2016 21:28:22 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz allowed three hits and three walks with a career-high tying 10 strikeouts over six scoreless innings in a win in Game 2 of a doubleheader Wednesday, May 11, against the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz was sharp, and he lowered his season ERA to 1.80. It's still a little premature to go all-in on Pomeranz, but if you're in an NL-only fantasy league and he is available off the waiver wire he isn't a bad addition as long as you don't have to break the bank of your FAAB budget.

Padres | Drew Pomeranz picks up win

Sat, 07 May 2016 05:32:48 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz pitched five scoreless innings against the New York Mets Friday, May 6, to pick up his third win of the season. He allowed one hit during the game, while striking out five batters and walking three.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz has allowed two earned runs of less in six of his seven starts this season and allowed three runs in the other game. He should be a decent starting option against most opponents, but owners may want to avoid him in his next start since he will be facing the Chicago Cubs.
