Red Sox | Drew Pomeranz loses to Detroit

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 21:21:16 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Drew Pomeranz allowed two earned runs, four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over six innings Monday, July 25, against the Detroit Tigers. He threw 64 of his 99 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz was much better in his second outing with the team after getting bounced around by San Francisco last time out. He'll get it going once he gets comfortable in Boston, and remains a must-start across all fantasy formats with his 2.84 ERA and 1.12 WHIP.

Red Sox | Drew Pomeranz struggles in debut

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 23:27:37 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Drew Pomeranz gave up five runs on eight hits in three-plus innings against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, July 20. It was his first start with the club after being acquired from the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: Staked to an 8-0 lead, Pomeranz came apart at the seams in the fourth, allowing seven straight batters to reach base before getting pulled. Don't read too much into it, however, as even though this was his first American League start, this was his fourth (yes, fourth) meeting with the Giants this season so there was plenty of familiarity. Hopefully his next outing with go smoother.

Red Sox | Drew Pomeranz set to start Wednesday

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 17:26:28 -0700

Boston Red Sox SP Drew Pomeranz is expected to make his team debut Wednesday, July 20, against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz posted a 2.60 ERA in three starts against the Giants when he was still a member of the Padres, so he should be starting in all formats as he makes his first start with Boston.

Red Sox | Clay Buchholz demoted to bullpen again

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 12:19:53 -0700

Boston Red Sox P Clay Buchholz has been moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen, with the club expected to add SP Drew Pomeranz to the 25-man active roster prior to the game against the New York Yankees Sunday, July 17.

Fantasy Tip: Buchholz went 0-3 with a 6.14 ERA during his brief return to the rotation after being sent to the bullpen earlier in the year due to ineffectiveness. Although he has a 2.89 ERA as a reliever in five appearances this year, he should be dropped in all but the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues. Pomeranz has posted a 0.64 ERA in two starts this month, with 13 strikeouts in 14 innings, and should be viewed as a viable pitching option in all formats. He is expected to make his debut with the BoSox against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, July 20.

Padres | Anderson Espinoza lands in San Diego

Thu, 14 Jul 2016 20:40:34 -0700

The San Diego Padres acquired SP Anderson Espinoza from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for SP Drew Pomeranz Thursday, July 14.

Fantasy Tip: Espinoza is a highly-touted prospect, but he could still be a few years away from reaching the majors. He is worth owning in dynasty leagues.

Red Sox | Drew Pomeranz traded to Boston

Thu, 14 Jul 2016 15:16:57 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz was traded to the Boston Red Sox for top prospect SP Anderson Espinoza Thursday, July 14.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz has had an outstanding year thus far, even being rewarded with his first career All-Star berth, as he was 8-7 with a 2.47 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 17 starts. Furthermore, his .184 opposing batting average topped the NL, and he also produced an impressive 10.1 K/9 rate. However, it would be wishful thinking to believe Pomeranz can contribute the same stellar numbers in Boston, where he'll no longer have the friendly confines of Petco Park to lean on, not to mention pitching in the hard-hitting AL East. In addition, he's already pitched a career-high 102 innings, which also could become a factor down the stretch. Even so, he can still be useful in all leagues. Espinoza, meanwhile, gets a nice boost in moving to pitcher-friendly San Diego, and is a solid stash option in dynasty leagues.

Padres | All kinds of interest for Drew Pomeranz

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 12:58:51 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz is involved in trade negotiations, and as many as 10 teams have inquired about his availability, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Pomeranz is in the midst of his breakout campaign with a 2.47 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and 115 strikeouts through 102 innings. He projects to continue pitching at a high level with a new team, and it should be a fantasy boon to join a better ball club, especially in the win column.

Marlins | Miami fishing for starters

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 07:18:06 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi, San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz and Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill are pitchers that the Miami Marlins are pursuing.

Fantasy Tip: Odorizzi and Hill would benefit from a move to the National League, whereas Pomeranz would remain about the same. Hill and Pomeranz are great in the SP3 range, and Odorizzi is an SP5.

Rangers | Texas looking at Drew Pomeranz

Tue, 12 Jul 2016 13:09:53 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz is receiving trade interest from the Texas Rangers, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: There appears to be a good chance that Pomeranz will be traded at some point this season because multiple teams have interest in him. He has recorded 8-7 record with a 2.47 ERA this season and would be a solid fantasy option no matter where he plays.

Red Sox | BOS looking at two Padre pitchers

Sun, 10 Jul 2016 04:06:05 -0700

The Boston Red Sox apparently have interest in San Diego Padres SP Drew Pomeranz and SP Andrew Cashner, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: If either pitcher heads east, it could result in better statistics all around. As always, with all trade deadline rumors and innuendo, keep an eye on what really takes place. With Boston's hotter-hitting lineup, Pomeranz and Cashner would definitely benefit.
