Oakland Athletics RP Ryan Cook (shoulder) will make a rehab outing with Single-A Stockton Thursday, April 3, and manager Bob Melvin said Cook is "pretty close" to being ready to return from the disabled list. When Cook returns from the DL, the team will need to option either RP Evan Scribner or SP Drew Pomeranz to Triple-A Sacramento.

The Oakland Athletics have had to shake up their rotation plans due to a rainout Tuesday, April 1, and they might recall a starting option from Triple-A Sacramento for the second game of a day-night doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, April 2. Candidates include Ps Josh Lindblom, Arnold Leon and Joe Savery. The team could also consider Drew Pomeranz for the spot start.

Oakland Athletics RP Drew Pomeranz edged out RP Joe Savery to win the final bullpen spot heading into the regular season. However, it is likely to be a short stay, as RP Ryan Cook (shoulder) is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Saturday, April 5.

Oakland Athletics RPs Jim Johnson, Luke Gregerson, Sean Doolittle and Dan Otero are each considered locks for the bullpen for manager Bob Melvin. Left-handed RP Fernando Abad is also expected to get one of the vacant bullpen spot, with RP Evan Scribner looking like a good bet for another spot as a long reliever. That likely leaves on spot from a group of Ps Drew Pomeranz, Josh Lindblom, Joe Savery and Arnold Leon. Lindblom is believed to have the edge in the battle.

Oakland Athletics SP Drew Pomeranz will likely serve as a long reliever this season. Pomeranz says he feels much better this year thanks to finally fixing his mechanical issues. "I have a better plan with my mechanics. I feel like I know what I'm doing a lot more now. I was just searching last year to feel right. Repeating my mechanics was difficult. I was always trying to do something different to make it click," he said. Pomeranz has already thrown seven bullpens but has been delayed recently due to an infected ingrown leg hair.

SP Drew Pomeranz will be stretched out during spring training, and he is hopeful of winning a rotation spot. SP Tommy Milone is also hopeful of pushing his way into the mix and re-gaining his spot in the rotation. P Josh Lindblom is also expected to be under consideration, although he is likely to begin the season at Triple-A Sacramento.
