New York Mets SP Matt Harvey's fastball was clocked in the mid-90s in his start against the Atlanta Braves Thursday, June 23. He allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out three over six innings in a no-decision.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey's recent rebound continued, and he should back in starting lineups across all formats.

Mets | Matt Harvey not worried

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 21:36:06 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey said he isn't worried about his loss to the Atlanta Braves Thursday, June 17, and he said mistakes with his location were to blame.

Fantasy Tip: Don't overreact to Harvey's lackluster outing. He has been more good than bad recently, so start him the next time he takes the mound.

Mets | Step back for Matt Harvey

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 20:30:30 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey allowed four runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out five over six innings in a loss to the Atlanta Braves Friday, June 17.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey had turned in three straight gems, but he couldn't keep the momentum going. He still looks as good as he has all season during the last month, so keep starting him and hope for more good than bad the rest of the way.

Mets | Lefties have owned Matt Harvey

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 11:24:06 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey has struggled against lefty hitters this year, as they have hit .321 (45-for-140) against him this year with 17 extra-base hits (three triples, four home runs), a .373 on-base percentage and .521 slugging percentage. Righties are hitting just .250/.285/.375 with nine extra-base hits (four home runs) in 144 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: This doesn't mean to go out and select every Braves left-handed hitter in daily games against Harvey Friday night, as the Dark Knight has rebounded nicely in his last three starts after a brutal stretch. But Freddie Freeman, who is scorching hot, shouldn't be ignored because of the matchup.

Mets | Matt Harvey turnaround looks real

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 10:04:35 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey's numbers are better across the board in his last three starts, including a 0.90 ERA in those starts. His fastball is a tick higher at 95.1 mph, but the added velocity hasn't increased his swing-and-miss rate, which can be said about his slider as well. Harvey's slider was moving 4.6 feet per second horizontally as it crossed home plate through his first 10 starts. It's now at 5.1 feet per second in his last three.

Harvey has been a much better pitcher with men on base these previous three starts. Opponents hit .364 against him with men on in his first 10 starts, but they are at .250 in his past three. The Mets' defense has played much better behind him. His opponents' BABIP in his first 10 starts was .378. In his past three, it's .170.

Fantasy Tip: Overall the peripherals look sustainable, and he's having better luck. That's not to say it's smooth sailing the rest of the season, but Harvey owners that didn't panic should be rewarded with their SP1.

Mets | Matt Harvey returning to form

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 21:35:39 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey allowed one run on two hits while walking two and striking out eight over six innings in a no-decision against the Milwaukee Brewers Friday, June 10, and he has allowed a combined two runs over 20 innings in his last three starts.

Fantasy Tip: Whether the turnaround continues remains to be seen, but it at least seems like Harvey is headed in the right direction. Start him with confidence for the time being.

Mets | Matt Harvey goes seven strong in defeat

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 13:16:14 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey enjoyed another dominant performance on Sunday, June 5, but came out on the wrong end of a pitchers' duel with Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez. Harvey yielded one run on four hits and did not walk a batter while striking out three over seven innings.

Fantasy Tip: That's back-to-back 1-0 affairs for Harvey, who bested the Chicago White Sox on May 30. The "Dark Knight" is still struggling to rack up the strikeouts at the same rate is used to - he's totaled 12 in 21 2/3 innings across his last four outings - but owners will gladly take his last two starts over his first 10, when he went 3-7 with a 6.08 ERA. Harvey's next test to see if his resurgence is for real is scheduled to come Friday at Milwaukee against the Brewers.

Mets | Matt Harvey rebounds, tosses gem

Mon, 30 May 2016 14:58:10 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey bounced back in a big way with his performance Monday, May 30, against the Chicago White Sox. The right-hander tossed seven shutout innings, scattering just two hits and one walk. He also struck out six.

Fantasy Tip: It turns out Harvey was right in not wanting to have his Memorial Day assignment skipped, as this was actually his best outing of the season. It's a huge step in the right direction for The Dark Knight, who had surrendered five runs or more in each of his past three starts. This should at least restore some of his confidence, which will allow him to return to his usual form. Owners who benched him might want to get Harvey back in starting lineups right away.

Mets | Mechanical flaw detected with Matt Harvey

Sun, 29 May 2016 07:09:48 -0700

The New York Mets have reportedly detected a mechanical flaw with SP Matt Harvey's delivery. He stops or pauses with his arm during the windup, which causes him to lose command.

Fantasy Tip: Harvey is still scheduled to make his next start against the Chicago White Sox Monday, May 30, and he is going through the worst season of his MLB career. The 27-year-old right-hander is 3-7 with a 6.08 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP in 10 starts, with eight home runs allowed over just 53 1/3 innings. He should be avoided in all fantasy formats for now.

Mets | Matt Harvey tosses modified side session

Fri, 27 May 2016 14:50:02 -0700

New York Mets SP Matt Harvey had hitters in the batter's box during his side session Friday, May 27. He is still scheduled to face the Chicago White Sox Monday, May 30.

"His sides have been out of sight," manager Terry Collins said Friday. "It's when the games have started that there's some things that are getting changed (mechanically). So we just wanted to put some hitters in there. Basically, it's a side (session) with a hitter in the batter's box, because there are some things we're seeing when the hitters are in there that need to get fixed."

Fantasy Tip: Harvey has been a mess on the hill, and while there is plenty of reason to be optimistic about a bounce back, he cannot be started with confidence in any fantasy format. Despite his career-best 24.4 soft-hit percentage, Harvey has a career-high .374 BABIP, so there is some tough luck baked into his current struggles. Testing the trade market as a buyer and seller isn't a bad idea.
