Royals | Cheslor Cuthbert sitting vs. Cards

Thu, 30 Jun 2016 13:34:29 -0700

Kansas City Royals 3B Cheslor Cuthbert is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 30. 2B Christian Colon is starting at third base and batting sixth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Mike Leake Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Cuthbert has provided a solid return in deep mixed and AL-only leagues with 19 runs, seven home runs, 20 RBI and a .271/.307/.429 slash line over 45 games. However, he's still not even a middle-tier option in those deep formats. Colon is a depth piece in cavernous mixed and AL-only setups, and he is a potential flier in daily contests Thursday.

Royals | No Whit Merrifield vs. Cards

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 13:42:36 -0700

Kansas City Royals 2B/OF Whit Merrifield is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 29. 2B Christian Colon is starting at second base and batting seventh against St. Louis Cardinals SP Carlos Martinez Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Merrifield has settled into the leadoff spot of late, and he has 22 runs through 35 games with a solid .307/.329/.427 slash line. View the rookie as a viable starting option at the keystone or in the outfield in deep mixed leagues. Colon is a viable low-priced flier in daily contests because of his respectable career .354 on-base percentage, but there is limited upside given his .359 career slugging percentage.

Royals | Night off vs. Cards for Alex Gordon

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:39:52 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 28. 2B Christian Colon draws into the lineup at second base and is batting eighth against St. Louis Cardinals SP Michael Wacha Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon played the past three games and is freshly back from a lengthy injury absence due to a fracture in his right wrist. Be patient with him as he shakes off the rust and expect a few nights off along the way. Colon is nothing more than a desperation option in seasonal formats, but he is a potential low-priced flier in daily contests.

Royals | KC not interested in Jose Reyes

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 17:36:53 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Kansas City Royals do not appear to be interested in acquiring Colorado Rockies SS Jose Reyes to play second base. The Royals plan to continue using the tandem of INFs Whit Merrifield and Christian Colon at the keystone position.

Fantasy Tip: Entering play Thursday, Merrifield was batting .330 with two home runs and eight RBI through 100 at-bats, while Colon was batting .288 with three RBI in 59 at-bats. Both players are productive sources of cap relief in DFS, with Merrifield being the better fantasy option for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues because he is expected to see most of the playing time at second. Reyes should be stashed in all formats because he has the potential to make an immediate impact wherever he lands.

Royals | Three KC regulars taking a seat

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:02:08 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando and 1B Kendrys Morales are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 15. OF Whit Merrifield is in left field and hitting leadoff, OF Reymond Fuentes is starting in right field and batting seventh and C Drew Butera is doing the catching and hitting ninth with C Salvador Perez serving as the designated hitter. Also, 2B Christian Colon is starting at the keystone and is hitting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Corey Kluber.

Fantasy Tip: Merrifield has become a start in KC in short order with a .326 average (31-for-95), and he's homered in back-to-back games for his first two big league long balls. While he's hot, continue using him as a value pick in DFS. He's also worth adding for depth in deep mixed and AL-only leagues with everyday playing time. Fuentes, Butera and Colon all profile as low-end dart throws as deep sleepers in DFS.

Royals | Jarrod Dyson on the bench

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 09:24:16 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon Sunday, June 12. OF Whit Merrifield will start in left field, while 2B Christian Colon will start at second base and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Merrifield has posted decent numbers over the past few weeks and should be a starting candidate in some daily fantasy leagues. Colon has picked up three hits over his last two games but is not a great fantasy option for owners.

Royals | Jarrod Dyson will not start

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 08:46:06 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Saturday, June 11. 2B Whit Merrifield will start in left field, while 2B Christian Colon will start at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Colon picked up two hits in the last game and has a solid .271 average in limited playing time. He may have some value in daily fantasy leagues, but owners should be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Royals | Jarrod Dyson not playing Friday

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 13:58:10 -0700

Kansas City Royals OF Jarrod Dyson is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Chris Sale Friday, June 10. OF Whit Merrifield is starting in left field and is hitting leadoff, while 2B Christian Colon draws in at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Merrifield has played very well for the Royals in 18 games, hitting .315 with no home runs, four RBI and three steals. He's also regularly batting near the top of the lineup, too, which maximizes his fantasy value. For now, though, he's an injury replacement in deeper mixed and AL-only leagues, and he's not very attractive in DFS action against the dominant Sale. Colon is a light-hitting middle infielder that should be avoided everywhere tonight.

Royals | Three Royals out for Game 1

Wed, 18 May 2016 08:29:08 -0700

Kansas City Royals C Salvador Perez, 2B Omar Infante and OF Paulo Orlando are out for the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday, May 18. 2B Christian Colon, C Drew Butera and OF Jarrod Dyson are hitting in the final three spots in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Butera is 4-for-10 (.400) with three doubles on the season. He's a shot in the dark against knuckle-baller Steven Wright. Dyson has wheels, but he's hitting just .217. He and Colon aren't ripe DFS flyers today.

Royals | Christian Colon playing Saturday

Sat, 14 May 2016 12:15:30 -0700

Kansas City Royals 2B Christian Colon is back in the starting lineup against Atlanta Braves SP Mike Foltynewicz Saturday, May 14, batting eighth. 2B Omar Infante is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Colon is batting .333 with three RBI in 30 at-bats versus right-handers this season and is 4-for-11 at the dish over the past week. He's worth considering as a value play in daily fantasy formats.
