Marlins | Christian Yelich feeling better

Thu, 26 May 2016 08:57:14 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) hit in the batting cage Wednesday, May 25, and said he is feeling better despite missing a fifth straight game with back spasms. Manager Don Mattingly said the Marlins are being cautious with Yelich. He's hitting .320 with five home runs and 20 RBI on the year.

Fantasy Tip: The Marlins clearly don't think Yelich's injury is serious enough for a DL stint, so consider him day-to-day. Despite lacking obvious power, Yelich is one of the best all-around hitters in the league with a sweet lefty swing. He's barreling up balls with regularity and should continue to be a great source of average and runs. Put him back in all starting lineups when he's ready to return.

Marlins | Christian Yelich out again

Thu, 26 May 2016 08:10:48 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) is out of the lineup again Thursday, May 26, with OF Marcell Ozuna hitting third.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich is out for the sixth straight game. Ozuna has been mashing this month with a .427-6-15 line. He's without the protection of Giancarlo Stanton, however. Lefty Drew Smyly is on the hill, and Ozuna is hitting .485 with four homers in 33 at-bats against lefties. Ozuna is an easy decision to start today.

Marlins | Christian Yelich remains out

Wed, 25 May 2016 15:01:13 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) remains out of the starting lineup Wednesday, May 25. OF Cole Gillespie is starting in left field and is batting eighth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Andriese.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich remains day-to-day, but the longer his back remains an issue, the greater chances of him landing on the DL. Stay tuned for news on his progress. Gillespie has only eight at-bats this year and six total home runs in six years in the majors. He's a desperation pick in DFS play this evening.

Marlins | Christian Yelich out Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 08:00:43 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) remains out of the lineup Tuesday, May 24, with OF Ichiro Suzuki leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Ichiro is drawing his fourth consecutive start, and he is 12-for-16 (.750) the last week. Twenty-two of his 25 hits have been singles this year, but that kind of production isn't something you can ignore. He's a lower-middle option against Jake Odorizzi today.

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) remains out of the starting lineup Monday, May 23. OF Ichiro Suzuki is playing left field again and is batting leadoff against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich is day-to-day, and you'll want to return him immediately to your starting lineups when he comes back. Suzuki continues to hit at 42 years old, although his power is extremely limited. Against the lefty, he's not the most attractive daily pick.

Marlins | Christian Yelich out Sunday

Sun, 22 May 2016 13:59:55 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) was out for a second straight game Sunday, May 22, against the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich said his back feels "so-so", and his status is day-to-day. This will impact daily leagues more than anything else for now, and Yelich should be benched until his back is improved and he is in the starting lineup. For now, Ichiro Suzuki is the direct beneficiary of Yelich's injury.

Marlins | Christian Yelich scratched

Sat, 21 May 2016 14:02:57 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) was scratched Saturday, May 21, due to back spasms. OF Ichiro Suzuki took his place, and he'll hit leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Ichiro is hitting .319, but all but two of his hits have been singles. That doesn't play particularly well in DFS, and Joe Ross has been dealing. Ichiro is a basement option with a little intrigue. Yelich may need a couple of days to let his back calm down. Check his status Sunday.

Marlins | Christian Yelich maturing

Thu, 05 May 2016 10:36:13 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich leads the Marlins in highest average exit velocity (94.9 mph), according to Statcast. OF Giancarlo Stanton has an average exit velocity of 93.9. Yelich's mark has him ranked ninth in the majors. He already has eight doubles after hitting 30 in each of the last two years.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich doesn't hit for much power (career-high nine homers in 2014), but he'll maintain a high average with great plate discipline and elite contact rates. His power could still develop since he's only 24, so Yelich's fantasy ceiling could continue to grow.

Marlins | Christian Yelich staying hot

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 16:10:58 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich is hitting .360/.435/.498 in his last 89 games.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich is off to a 23-for-62 (.371) start this year with one home run and seven RBI. His smooth line-drive approach at the plate makes him a great batting average contributor in all fantasy formats. If only he can generate some more lift to fuel a home run improvement, he could become a five-category contributor.
