Marlins | Christian Yelich sitting vs. Orioles

Fri, 22 May 2015 12:47:05 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich is not in the starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, May 22. OF Ichiro Suzuki is batting seventh and playing left field Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has been an utter disappointment to date, and through 99 plate appearances, he has just three extra-base hits and a .236 slugging percentage. While there is plenty of upside for Yelich, desperate fantasy owners in shallow formats should at least explore alternative options. Suzuki ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) offers little upside in all fantasy formats, and he should be viewed as nothing more than a source of cap relief by FantasyScore players.

Marlins | Christian Yelich sitting out

Sat, 16 May 2015 07:12:27 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) has struggled at the plate this season, so he is receiving a day off. Ichiro Suzuki ($2,000, 4.4% of cap) will take his place in the lineup and could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore.

Marlins | Christian Yelich off DL, in lineup

Fri, 08 May 2015 16:14:07 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) was reinstated from the disabled list Friday, May 8, and he's back in the starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich's ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) means Ichiro Suzuki ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) will go back to being the team's fourth outfielder off the bench. Trusting Yelich immediately at FantasyScore may be a mistake, especially against San Francisco Giants starter Tim Lincecum, who has been solid so far this year.

Marlins | Christian Yelich will be activated Friday

Thu, 07 May 2015 17:27:48 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) will be activated from the disabled list Friday, May 8, according to manager Mike Redmond.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) hit .200 through 49 plate appearances before being placed on the DL. Yelich had zero home runs and just one double prior to the injury, but he had 45 extra-base hits in 2014. Yelich will return to a strong Marlins' offense, and is a must own in all leagues. FantasyScore owners may want to wait until Yelich heats up before investing for daily play.

Marlins | Christian Yelich could return Thursday

Sat, 02 May 2015 11:22:52 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) is scheduled to begin a three-game minor league rehab assignment with high A Jupiter Sunday, May 3. If all goes well, he will be activated from the disabled list Thursday, May 7, before the start of a four-game series against the San Francisco Giants.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich's ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) return to action will lead to a sharp decrease in playing time for Ichiro Suzuki ($1,800, 3.6% of cap), who has been getting the bulk of the playing time in left field. FantasyScore owners should wait until he has proven he is completely healthy before using him in their lineups.

Marlins | Christian Yelich progressing

Fri, 01 May 2015 15:34:01 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) is expected to play in a minor league game with high-A Jupiter Sunday, May 2, according to manager Mike Redmond. Yelich has been out with a lower back strain since Monday, April 20.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to monitor Yelich's ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) progress as he works his way back from the injury. He was diagnosed with a bulging disc in his lower back. Until he returns, Ichiro Suzuki ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) appears slated to continue receiving most of the playing time in left field.

Marlins | Christian Yelich has bulging back disk

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 11:34:35 -0700

Updating a previous report, an MRI exam for Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) revealed that he had a bulging disk in his lower back.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the finding, the team is confident that Yelich will be ready to return to action once his 15-day stint on the disabled list is over. For the time being, OF Ichiro Suzuki ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) appears slated to see most of the playing time in left field while Yelich is out.

Marlins | Christian Yelich lands on DL

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 11:56:48 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday, April 24, with a lower back strain. 1B Justin Bour was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Yelich being sidelined immediately boosts the fantasy value of Ichiro Suzuki ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) in the short term. However, he has just nine hits in 35 at-bats this year with only one RBI, and he doesn't have the pop that made him extremely valuable in his hey day. Only consider Suzuki at FantasyScore in juicy matchups with him moving to an everyday role. Suzuki still isn't very attractive in shallow mixed leagues, even with consistent playing time.
