Marlins | Christian Yelich moved to leadoff spot

Wed, 31 Jul 2013 10:07:46 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich moved into the No. 1 spot in the batting order on Tuesday, July 30, a move that bumped SS Adeiny Hechavarria to the two-hole. Yelich regularly occupied the leadoff spot while with Double-A Jacksonville. Manager Mike Redmond hopes the change helps Yelich become a little more comfortable, although the youngster said he feels comfortable hitting anywhere. Redmond also hopes Hechavarria will see more pitches as a result; the manager has stated on multiple occasions that he believes the Cuban shortstop is best suited for that spot.

Fantasy Tip: Hopefully arrangement gets Yelich (.212/.278/.242 in 36 plate appearances) going, but it may have been only a matter of time, regardless. Hechavarria (.240/.277/.314) has cooled off since moving into the top spot, but he's flashed a little promise with the bat, at least. He could attract attention in very deep mixed leagues if he picks it back up.

Marlins | Christian Yelich, Jake Marisnick will play

Tue, 23 Jul 2013 11:37:08 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich will start in left field and OF Jake Marisnick will be the team's starting center fielder. "These are two guys who definitely are going to improve our defense in the outfield," manager Mike Redmond said. "Jake plays a great center field, and Yelich too. I think those guys will bring excitement and hopefully another boost of energy to this team and this lineup."

Fantasy Tip: Yelich and Marisnick should both be scooped in NL-only leagues if they haven't been already. Marisnick probably has a better shot to contribute better numbers immediately, while Yelich profiles as a better long-term keeper asset. Don't rule out both becoming valuable in deep mixed leagues before the season is over.

Marlins | Two prospects coming up

Tue, 23 Jul 2013 05:11:50 -0700

The Miami Marlins optioned INF Derek Dietrich and OF Marcell Ozuna to Double-A Jacksonville and will call up OF Christian Yelich and OF Jake Marisnick.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick is having a solid year in center field at Double-A. He's hitting .294 with 12 homers, 46 RBIs and 11 steals. Yelich is hitting .280 with seven homers and 29 RBIs. Marisnick's skill set could translate into a recipe for success at the major-league level this season, but we question whether Yelich is ready. He was hitting .240 a couple weeks ago before a hot stretch recently. Grab both in NL-only leagues, and Marisnick could become useful in mixed leagues.

Marlins | Christian Yelich could come up this month

Fri, 19 Jul 2013 08:52:26 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Christian Yelich will likely come up before the end of July if he can show consistency at Double-A Jacksonville in the next week or two.

Fantasy Tip: He's hitting .268-6-28 with five steals in 179 at-bats at Double-A this year. He hit .329-12-48 with 20 steals at two Class A levels last season. There is still much to be desired in his development, but we can see stashing him in NL-only leagues if you have the space.

Marlins | Justin Ruggiano next to be traded?

Mon, 08 Jul 2013 16:33:10 -0700

The Miami Marlins are receiving multiple inquiries about OF Justin Ruggiano, and while they aren't actively shopping him, they could decide to trade him this summer. The San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates are looking for outfield help. The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers may also be interested. The Marlins aren't motivated to move Ruggiano at the moment, though. OF Christian Yelich (abdominal) just started playing in rehab games last week and OF Jake Marisnick may benefit from more time in the minors. OF Chris Coghlan (calf) has been on the disabled list since June 9 with a nerve issue in his right calf.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the fact that several of Miami's center field options are banged up, don't count the Fish out in trading Ruggiano if they get what they like in return. Marisnick is the most likley option to come up and start in center field if Ruggiano is dealt. Keep an eye on both he and Yelich in NL-only leagues.
