Mariners | Nathan Karns heading to 'pen

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 16:20:30 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Nathan Karns will head to the bullpen for the time being with SP Taijuan Walker (foot) going Thursday, June 30, and SP Wade LeBlanc starting Friday, July 1.

Fantasy Tip: It's not a permanent move for Karns, but it'll kill most of his limited fantasy value in the meantime. Walker has been up and down most of the year and is a high-risk, high-reward start against the Orioles Thursday. LeBlanc probably won't be long for a rotation spot and should be avoided against the powerful Baltimore lineup.

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) could start Thursday, June 30, against the Baltimore Orioles, according to manager Scott Servais.

Fantasy Tip: Walker has struggled with consistency all year, and he will be a high-risk, high-reward fantasy option in his return to the mound.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker likely starting next week

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 14:20:36 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) is expected to start against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday, June 28, or Wednesday, June 29.

Fantasy Tip: Given his inconsistency at full health, it is likely best to take a wait-and-see approach with Walker next week. He has tremendous upside, but cannot shake the rough outings and should be viewed as a high-risk, high-reward option in all fantasy formats until he proves otherwise.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker to miss next start

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 16:55:01 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) will not be able to pitch against the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, June 24, but will not need to be placed on the disabled list, according to general manager Jerry Dipoto.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see when Walker will be able to start again and who will take his place for Friday's start. Owners should keep Walker on the bench until he is able to return.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker has tendinitis

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 16:26:09 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his foot. Manager Scott Servais said Walker's foot is still tender.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need monitor the situation because there is a chance that Walker may need to be placed on the 15-day disabled list. The team could call Cody Martin from Class AAA Tacoma if Walker is not able to make his next season but will not be a strong fantasy option.

Mariners | Cody Martin could be called up

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 05:42:31 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Cody Martin could be called up to the parent club if SP Taijuan Walker (foot) has to miss a turn or go on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Martin has been a decent pitcher at Class AAA Tacoma, and he may be worth a flyer in daily formats. He isn't worth the play in other formats unless you have a deep bench and can stash Martin away.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker scheduled for MRI exam

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 13:07:54 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) is returning to Seattle to have an MRI exam on his foot.

Fantasy Tip: Walker is an inconsistent hurler, which makes him a tough starter to trust, and especially if he is battling an injury. Stay tuned for updates, but Walker has a ways to go before he can be considered anything other than a high-risk, high-reward arm. The upside is significant, though.

Mariners | Taijuan Walker's foot holds up

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 16:26:12 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker (foot) allowed six hits while walking one and striking out three over five scoreless innings against the Boston Red Sox Sunday, June 19, in his first start since suffering a foot injury.

Fantasy Tip: If Walker's foot was bothering him, it certainly didn't show in his performance. He should be safe to use going forward.

Mariners | More on Taijuan Walker's foot

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 15:20:17 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Taijuan Walker's (foot) issues stem from him being flat-footed. His foot arches and applies stress that can lead to problems when he pushes off the rubber, and trainer Rick Griffin requested that Walker tape his foot from now on when he pitches. Griffin said it could remain a problem for Walker because he's pigeon-toed. The condition is called posterior tibial tendinitis.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Walker is expected to make his next start and should be fine moving forward as long as he continues to tape his foot before his starts. The foot issues could explain why Walker has been maddeningly inconsistent this year. He has a 3.69 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 8.5 strikeouts per nine innings. Walker's strikeout upside makes him attractive in most fantasy formats, and you'll want to stick with him. However, sitting him against the Boston Red Sox his next time out is advised.
