Tigers | Nick Castellanos enjoys banner day

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:26:21 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer - his 14th - and finished a double shy of the cycle versus the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, June 28.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos wasn't interested in running up pitch counts tonight either, as he saw only nine. The 24-year-old is already one home run shy of matching his career high set last year, while his .302/.337/.526 slash line would top each of his previous personal-best marks by a wide margin. His breakout season is upon us, and owners should go along for the ride.

Tigers | V-Mart, Maybin out Thursday

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 07:18:56 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez and OF Cameron Maybin are out of the lineup Thursday, June 23. 3B Nick Castellanos is hitting cleanup, and SS Jose Iglesias hits second. OF Andrew Romine is hitting ninth in center field, and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is playing first and hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos has cooled a bit with a .274-3-8 line this month, but he's a high-end consideration behind Miguel Cabrera. Iglesias is hitting .356 this month, and he has high upside ahead of Miggy. Romine and Salty aren't strong DFS flyers against Adrian Sampson.

Tigers | Victor Martinez not playing

Tue, 14 Jun 2016 13:17:44 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez (knee) is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Miguel Gonzalez Tuesday, June 14. 3B Nick Castellanos will serve as the designated hitter, while 3B Mike Aviles will start at third base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos is hitting .200 with two home runs and four RBI over the last seven days but should be a fine starting candidate in most leagues. Aviles is hitting .261 with two RBI this month, but owners likely will be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos dials long distance

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 20:43:04 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos connected for a solo home run in four at-bats Saturday, June 11, against the New York Yankees. It was his 12th homer of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos swatted a career-high 15 homers last season, so he is well on pace for a career best in 2016. He is also hitting .309, 43 points better than his career average, so he has really come into his own and emerged as a must-start fantasy option in all AL-only leagues and most mixed formats.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos goes deep

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 15:55:35 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday, June 8.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos has cooled off a bit after his hot start to the season but still has eight hits in seven games this month. He should continue to be a solid option in most mixed leagues because he is part of one of the better lineups in baseball.

Tigers | Justin Upton resting Saturday

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 10:09:05 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Justin Upton is receiving the day off against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Saturday, June 4. INF/OF Mike Aviles will play left field and bat eighth. In addition, 3B Nick Castellanos has returned to the starting lineup and will bat sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Upton leads the majors with 75 strikeouts through 196 at-bats and is hitting just .177 with one home run and four RBI over the last four weeks. Aviles is batting only .170 through 47 at-bats and is not a recommended fantasy option this afternoon against one of baseball's best pitchers.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos receiving night off

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 12:57:05 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 3. INF Mike Aviles is starting at third base and batting seventh against Chicago White Sox SP Carlos Rodon Friday.

Fantasy Tip: As expected, Castellanos has cooled down over his past 20 games with a .241/.268/.443 slash line. However, he is still a solid option at the hot corner and hitting in the heart of a strong lineup. Remain patient with the emerging hitter. Aviles owns a .182/.234/.227 line for the season, but he also went 2-for-4 with a run, a double and an RBI Thursday, June 2, so he could be a viable flier in daily contests Friday.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos collects three hits

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 21:46:36 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos went 3-for-4 in the game Wednesday, June 1, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to push his average to .328.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos is a solid source of batting average in rotisserie fantasy formats, but he also strikes out a ton. He has struck out 10 times over the past five games.

Tigers | Victor Martinez scratched

Wed, 18 May 2016 09:00:00 -0700

Detroit Tigers 1B Victor Martinez was scratched Wednesday, May 18, with OF Steven Moya hitting sixth. Martinez needed extra rest. 3B Nick Castellanos and OF Justin Upton moved up one spot to cleanup and fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Moya is 6-for-15 (.400) and has some luster against Ricky Nolasco. Castellanos is a daily consideration. Upton is another story. He's hitting .213 this month and .218 on the year. He's a big risk in DFS without a lot of positive signs.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos out of lineup

Wed, 11 May 2016 12:16:39 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 11, in a National League ballpark. 1B Miguel Cabrera is moving to third base, while 1B Victor Martinez gets the start at first against Washington Nationals SP Max Scherzer.

Fantasy Tip: While facing Scherzer, most might be hesitant to use Cabrera or V-Mart in daily leagues, but they can still return value as contrarian picks at high prices. Scherzer has been vulnerable to the long ball with 1.9 home runs allowed per nine innings in 2016.
