Tigers | Nick Castellanos hitting well

Tue, 26 May 2015 10:09:05 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos has hit safely in 15 of his last 19 games after riding a nine-game hitting streak in early April.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is still only hitting .247 (22-for-89) in the month of May with two home runs and 12 RBI. Facing a right-handed pitcher tonight, Castellanos is a mediocre FantasyScore option. He's hitting .227 (32-for-141 against righties in 2015.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos drives in four

Wed, 20 May 2015 19:29:57 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos went 2-for-4 with four RBI against the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, May 20.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has picked up at least one hit in seven of his last nine games and has picked up six RBI in that span. Castellanos could be a cheaper option for owners on FantasyScore to consider, but owners should be able to find a better option most nights.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos sitting vs. Twins

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 16:39:02 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup Monday, April 27. 2B Hernan Perez is starting at third base and hitting eighth in the batting order against Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos has struck out 11 times in his last 19 at-bats, so he's receiving a breather. Perez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a weak-hitting infield option that should be avoided at FantasyScore at all costs.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos heating up

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 12:25:28 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos has a seven-game hitting streak entering the game against the New York Yankees Monday, April 20. Castellanos' streak is the longest of any Tiger so far this season.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) also has a hit in nine of his past 10 games, which has resulted in a .343/.410/.571 slash line. Although the counting stats are modest, the 23-year-old third baseman is a nice low-priced target for FantasyScore players while he is in a groove at the dish. In deep mixed leagues, he has upside and is worth a speculative add.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos not in lineup

Sat, 18 Apr 2015 09:38:59 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup Saturday, April 18.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) probably is just receiving a day off since he has been producing at the play the last few games. Hernan Perez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) only has two at-bats this season and should not be an option on FantasyScore.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos showing more discipline

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 11:26:44 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is showing more plate discipline than he did in 2014. He already has four walks this season after not reaching four walks last year until June. Castellanos hit .400 (30-for-75) on the first pitch in 2014, and eight of his 11 homers came on the first pitch. "That's what makes me good," Castellanos said. "Staying aggressive. There's a fine line between being aggressive and being anxious. You want to stay aggressive on good pitches." He also said he is starting to lay off sliders and changeups that righties throw him that are out of the zone.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is off to a bit of a slow start in 2015, hitting .194 (6-for-31), but he does have a home run and a triple. Against the Pittsburgh Pirates and lefty Francisco Liriano Wednesday, Castellanos doesn't look too appealing at FantasyScore after hitting .237 with three of his eight home runs against lefties in 139 at-bats.

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos (hand) left the team's game against the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, March 3, with a left hand contusion. X-rays were negative and he is day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos should be all right as spring training goes on, and he should be drafted in later rounds of most AL and mixed leagues depending on the amount of playing time he gets.

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is working with defensive coordinator Matt Martin in Texas this offseason. "Last year was (about) the actual groundball catching," Castellanos said. "This year is a lot more (about) quickness, working on my range, lateral movement." Ten of his 15 errors last season were on fielding attempts, but four of his five throwing errors came after Aug. 17.
