Tigers | Detroit sticking with Nick Castellanos

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 14:39:01 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is sticking at third base despite a surge by SS Andrew Romine lately. Romine was 6-for-15 (.400) in the last four games with three doubles, two home runs and three RBI, while Castellanos is hitting only .224 with 10 doubles, four triples and four home runs with 28 RBI in 70 games this year. "I think he's going to be fine," manager Brad Ausmus said of Castellanos. "He looked better the last few days after taking the better part of three games off. ... Sometimes you get paralyzed when you're trying to fix everything. You're trying to fix your hands, fix your feet. You get paralyzed because you're thinking about everything except the one thing you should be thinking about and that's the ball."

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) isn't out of the woods yet after getting two hits Thursday. Those in need of middle infield help in AL-only leagues should stash Romine ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) just in case. Tonight on FantasyScore, Castellanos could pay off as a sleeper pick, as he's hitting .295 (13-for-44) against southpaws this season. He's facing Chicago White Sox starter Jose Quintana.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos back at 3B

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 14:34:09 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is starting at third base and hitting sixth against Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar Tuesday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is hitting only .217 on the year and is 9-for-51 (.176) with no homers and five RBI in the month of June. He has lost playing time at the hot corner as a result. Avoid using him in daily lineups until he shows some signs of life at the plate.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos on the bench

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 07:32:05 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup against Masahiro Tanaka Sunday, June 21. SS Andrew Romine will start at third base and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is hitting only .176 this month and has not recorded an RBI in his last eight games. Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has gone hitless in his last nine games and should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos out of lineup

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 14:02:42 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is out of the starting lineup Saturday, June 20, against the New York Yankees. SS Andrew Romine will start at third and bat eighth in the lineup against RHP Nathan Eovaldi.

Fantasy Tip: Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a switch-hitter, but he fares considerably better from the left-hand side of the plate and hits for a .316 average against righties. While Romine lacks pop and power, he'll make for a worthy GPP option on FantasyScore.

Tigers | Andrew Romine in at 3B

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 07:04:09 -0700

Detroit Tigers SS Andrew Romine will start at third base Sunday, June 14, against the Cleveland Indians. Romine will hit eighth in the order against RHP Corey Kluber. 3B Nick Castellanos comes out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is a switch-hitter who is hitting .353 against right-handed pitching this season. Regardless of the inflated average, Romine should be avoided on FantasyScore, due to a difficult matchup against Kluber and the spot at the bottom of the batting order.

Tigers | Tyler Collins comes out of lineup

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 15:23:31 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Tyler Collins will come out of the lineup Tuesday, June 9, against the Chicago Cubs. 2B Josh Wilson will start at third base and bat eighth, while 3B Nick Castellanos will cover designated hitter duties.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) has two singles and one strikeout in three plate appearances against left-handers this season. Wilson should be avoided on FantasyScore with a very difficult matchup against Lester.

Tigers | Josh Wilson starting at 3B Friday

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 15:10:28 -0700

Detroit Tigers 2B Josh Wilson is starting at third base and hitting eighth in the batting order against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Friday, June 5. 3B Nick Castellanos is serving as the designated hitter while batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson, who hit just .239 (16-for-67) with no home runs and eight RBI for the Texas Rangers last season, should be ignored everywhere.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos struggling

Mon, 01 Jun 2015 15:27:07 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is hitting .230 this season with four home runs and 21 RBI, and he has struck out 51 times and only has 13 walks. Manager Brad Ausmus said Castellanos is putting in the work, but sometimes it takes time to translate to the field.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has been scuffling, but he is attached to a high-powered lineup and carries the pedigree to breakout of the funk. In deep mixed leagues, a speculative grab isn't out of the question. Still, he is a low-end to ill-advised start in all but AL-only formats at this point, and in FantasyScore contests, Castellanos is nothing more than a low-priced flier.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos not in lineup Sunday

Sun, 31 May 2015 14:07:01 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 31, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. 3B Andrew Romine is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is taking a bench seat for tonight, so leave him out of your starting lineup. Romine ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is 4-for-8 in his last four games, so he is worth activating at this low price.

Tigers | Hernan Perez draws into lineup

Fri, 29 May 2015 16:06:26 -0700

Detroit Tigers 2B Hernan Perez is starting at third base and hitting eighth in the batting order against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Friday, May 29. 3B Nick Castellanos is serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has only two hits in 30 at-bats in 2015, and he should be avoided for FantasyScore lineups.
