Tigers | Nick Castellanos resting

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 13:03:43 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 19. 3B Mike Aviles is starting at the hot corner and is hitting seventh against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles doesn't do much for fantasy owners. He hit .231 with only five home runs in limited duty last season and should be avoided in all formats.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos drives in four

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 13:44:07 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI against the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos is off to a strong start with a .333 average and seven RBI in his first eight games. Castellanos could be an everyday third baseman in deeper mixed leagues because of his upside and a corner infield option in standard mixed leagues.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos will not start

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 07:42:41 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos is not in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia Saturday, April 9. SS Mike Aviles will start at third base and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Aviles likely will receive playing time at multiple positions but should not receive a lot of at-bats this season. Owners probably can avoid Aviles and look for other options.

Tigers | Nick Castellano singles-happy Friday

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 14:05:56 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos was 4-for-4 with four singles and a run against the New York Yankees Friday, April 8, to raise his average on the early season to .417.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos could be beginning a breakout year in 2016 if he improves his power numbers in an excellent lineup. He should be owned in all formats, at least as corner infield depth in shallower formats.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos to sit Wednesday

Tue, 08 Mar 2016 23:58:50 -0800

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos (back) is expected to miss another Grapefruit League spring game Wednesday, March 9, manager Brad Ausmus said.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos is being rested with several weeks to go until the regular season. He should be just fine for fantasy owners barring any setbacks.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos leaves early

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 18:04:22 -0800

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos (back) exited the game early Monday, March 7, after experiencing back tightness. Afterwards, manager Brad Ausmus said that Castellanos has been experiencing the issue lately and he was replaced after the third inning as a precaution.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos is coming off a fine year, in which he slashed .255/.303/.419 with 15 home runs and 73 RBI. A main reason for that success was that he stayed healthy, appearing in 154 ballgames, so this news isn't exactly encouraging as he gets set for his third full major league season. He's more of a low-end option at the hot corner either way.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos not worried

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 13:25:35 -0800

Updating a previous report, Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos (back) is not worried that he'll miss any time in spring training after leaving with back tightness Monday, March 7. "Nothing I'm too worried about," Castellanos said.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos has been inconsistent early in his career, but a second-half power surge last year will remind drafters that he has it in him to break out for the Tigers in 2016. Castellanos is a late-round fantasy sleeper at the hot corner.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos injured Monday

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 11:27:35 -0800

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos (back) was removed from the game early with back tightness Monday, March 7.

Fantasy Tip: The Tigers are likely being cautious here, but check back for updates on his status. Castellanos is still just 24 years old, and the ingredients are in place for a big power surge. Target him as a sleeper third baseman in 2016.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos impressing manager

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 09:58:24 -0800

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos had a single in the spring game Wednesday, March 2, but he also lined out to the warning track and lined out to center field in his other two at-bats, and he's been barreling balls up early and often this spring. Manager Brad Ausmus also notes his keen focus on the defensive side of the ball. "I like the concentration I'm seeing out of Nick," Ausmus said. "I know it's only two days, three days, but it's good."

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos has been a frustrating fantasy commodity, but this could be his breakout year. He's still only 24, and that second-half power surge shows that growth could be coming. Twenty-five to 30 home runs is possible, and he's in a great lineup.

Tigers | Nick Castellanos leaves game

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 19:03:42 -0700

Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos (finger) left the game Tuesday, Sept. 29, against the Detroit Tigers due to a right index finger contusion, according to the team.

Fantasy Tip: Castellanos ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) should be avoided in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game. Time is running out for that to occur if he doesn't come back immediately.
