New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (hernia) had the day off Monday, Aug. 11, so RP Jeurys Familia handled the final four outs of the game for the save over the Philadelphia Phillies. Familia allowed an RBI double in the ninth inning before closing out the game. It was his third save of the year and fourth of his career.
Fantasy Tip: With Mejia trying to finish off the final two months of the season while pitching through a hernia, days like this for Familia could become more frequent. We've been telling you to add Familia in leagues where he's still available. At this point, it might be too late.

Updating a previous report, New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (hernia), who blew the save against the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday, Aug. 10, is hoping to delay surgery on his hernia until after the season. He has known about the issue for weeks, but it didn't become public until after his blown save. Mejia is taking medication to manage the pain. He's given up at least two hits in each of his last four outings, including two losses.
Fantasy Tip: Mejia is treading on shaky ground, and if you're looking for saves and still haven't picked up Jeurys Familia, then you're not doing yourself a favor. The Mets could easily decide to shut Mejia down if he continues to show signs of hitting a wall.

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (calf) is dealing with a calf issue.
Fantasy Tip: You wouldn't have known it by his numbers today. Mejia went an inning and struck out two and allowed two hits, but the injury kept him from going another inning in an extra-inning affair. The severity of the injury is yet to be determined, but if you own Mejia or are looking for saves, run and pick up Jeurys Familia right now.

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (back) said he was dealing with tightness in his left side/back during his outing against the San Francisco Giants Monday, Aug. 4, in which he allowed the go-ahead run. However, he said it wasn't a factor in his performance and said he dealt with a similar issue a month ago and was fine after going unused for a few days.
Fantasy Tip: Mejia's injury doesn't sound serious, but the Mets will likely want to rest him for at least a day or two so that it doesn't worsen. If that happens, Jeurys Familia is next in line to pitch the ninth inning in save situations.

New York Mets RP Jeurys Familia had difficulty getting loose Tuesday, July 8, and will not be used Wednesday, July 9. Manager Terry Collins called it a red flag.
Fantasy Tip: Familia finished off the Braves last night in a non-save situation, when Jenrry Mejia was unavailable. Familia appears to be the No. 2 candidate for saves for the Mets, so he is worth a speculative add in NL-only and deep leagues, if you're searching for saves. However, if there is a health issue, Carlos Torres or Vic Black could be next in line.

New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia needs a night of rest, so RP Jeurys Familia will close Tuesday, July 8, if there is an opportunity.
Fri, 13 Jun 2014 13:01:04 -0700
New York Mets RP Jenrry Mejia (back) said his back remains tight, but it has improved, and he's not in pain. He's awaiting clearance from a doctor to throw Friday, June 13.
Fantasy Tip: Jeurys Familia is the next in line for save opportunities behind Mejia, and he could see a chance tonight if Mejia is deemed unavailable. Familia is probably widely available still, so if you're in need of saves, stashing Familia now is the right thing to do.
Wed, 28 May 2014 13:35:55 -0700
New York Mets manager Terry Collins has a lot of confidence in RP Jeurys Familia because of the way he's throwing lately, and Familia could be another candidate for save chances alongside RP Jenrry Mejia.
Fantasy Tip: Familia threw 1 2/3 innings of one-hit shutout ball to record the save Wednesday, tossing 15 of his 19 pitches for strikes. Mejia was unavailable. For now, Collins is just considering giving Familia some opportunities. As long as Mejia continues to perform well at the back end of the bullpen, he should be the guy that Collins trusts most as the main ninth-inning stopper.

Updating a previous item, New York Mets RP Kyle Farnsworth refused an outright assignment to the minor leagues Wednesday, May 14, and elected free agency instead. "Hopefully find a team to play against this team," Farnsworth said. "I'm very bitter right now." The Mets saved around $750,000 by cutting Farnsworth now, since the signed an advance letter of consent before the year, allowing the team to avoid paying his full contract if he was gone before the 45th day he was on the roster.
Fantasy Tip: Jeurys Familia is now considered the favorite to take over the vacant closer role for New York, with Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jose Valverded looming as possibilities if he falters. Familia should now be owned in all leagues.
Tue, 13 May 2014 13:10:56 -0700
New York Mets manager Terry Collins said the closer situation is being determined on a game-by-game basis with RP Kyle Farnsworth having a heavy workload recently. Collins said RPs Jose Valverde, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jeurys Familia will all be under consideration for a save Tuesday, May 13.
Fantasy Tip: Farnsworth is on a slippery slope right now and could be one blown save or poor outing away from being demoted. If you're looking for long-term possibilities for saves on this club, Familia is probably your best bet.
