Marlins | Henderson Alvarez having surgery

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 13:51:27 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) is undergoing surgery on a tear in his shoulder Tuesday, July 28.

Fantasy Tip: Shoulder surgeries for pitchers are typically pretty serious. There is no timetable for Alvarez's return, but don't be surprised if he doesn't return to pitch again this year. Stay tuned for more details.

Marlins | Henderson Alvarez has so-so outing

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 21:36:36 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) allowed two unearned runs, four hits and two walks with no strikeouts over three innings in his second minor-league rehab outing with Class A Jupiter. He did not record any strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez is working his way back from right shoulder inflammation. Avoid him in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in at least two starts without any setbacks.

Marlins | Henderson Alvarez begins rehab assignment

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 13:25:19 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) was placed on his rehab assignment with high-A Jupiter Wednesday, July 15.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has only made four starts this season, but the 25-year-old righty remains a decent source of ratios in the majority of seasonal leagues. However, he doesn't strike out many batters (career 4.7 K/9), and wins could be hard to find with the Marlins going forward. Continue to check back for updates on Alvarez's recovery and for a return timeline.

Marlins | Henderson Alvarez back in second half

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 04:54:06 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) will not likely return to the active roster until after the All-Star break.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) will provide a big boost to the team when healthy, but for now the team wants to be careful. Monitor his progress and do not play him immediately when he returns.

Marlins | Henderson Alvarez not throwing

Tue, 26 May 2015 21:13:38 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) has not been cleared to throw at this point and is focusing on strengthening his injured shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) does not appear to be close to returning, so he could miss several more weeks because of his injury. Owners on FantasyScore should avoid him until he is able to make a few starts.

Marlins | No structural damage for Henderson Alvarez

Tue, 26 May 2015 14:16:26 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez's (shoulder) MRI exam did not show any structural damage.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez is likely to need more than the 15 days on the disabled list for his injury. He's no longer worth a roster spot in shallow mixed leagues. Jose Urena is taking Alvarez's roster spot and will be a very cheap starting pitcher option. However, with not much experience in a starting role, especially at the major league level, he's one to avoid for now.

Marlins | Henderson Alvarez placed on DL

Sat, 23 May 2015 10:07:15 -0700

The Miami Marlins have placed SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list because of inflammation in his right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) finds himself on the disabled list for the second time this season, with the same injury which sidelined him for about a month earlier this year. After making the 2014 National League All-Star team, he has gone 0-4 with a 6.45 ERA in four starts in 2015. Stash him if you can afford the roster space in seasonal fantasy leagues, in the hopes that he can regain the form that made him so successful last year.

Sat, 16 May 2015 09:27:52 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) will be the starting pitcher against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has not pitched since April 12 because of his shoulder injury and could be on a pitch count Sunday. Alvarez is a risky option on FantasyScore, and owners may want to avoid using him.

Marlins | Henderson Alvarez to pitch for NOLA

Wed, 13 May 2015 22:26:50 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (elbow, shoulder) will make a second minor-league rehab start working for Class AAA New Orleans before he is activated from the 15-day disabled list, manager Mike Redmond said Wednesday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if this plan will change since Jarred Cosart left his start with the big club Wednesday. Avoid Alvarez until he can officially return and prove his health in a start or two.

Marlins | Henderson Alvarez nearing return

Wed, 13 May 2015 18:07:06 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) might return from the 15-day disabled list as soon as Sunday, May 17, or he might require a second rehab start. He worked six scoreless innings for Class A Jupiter, striking out five and walking none Tuesday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Henderson was the opening day starter, but he hasn't pitched since April 12 due to injury. Once Alvarez is back it will be the end of the line for David Phelps in the rotation.
