Yankees | Michael Pineda knocked around

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 22:01:54 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda allowed a career-high eight runs and 11 hits in just 3 1/3 innings in a loss Monday, June 22, against the Philadelphia Phillies. "His slider wasn't very good. His fastball was spotty," manager Joe Girardi said. "He struggled tonight."

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($8,300; or 16.6% of cap) was a giant disappointment for FantasyScore players against a team which ranked dead-last in run differential in MLB.

Yankees | Michael Pineda flashes strong slider

Wed, 17 Jun 2015 22:36:15 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda was back on regular rest Wednesday, June 17, against the Miami Marlins, and his slider was back, too. He allowed one earned run, one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings to pick up his eighth win of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($8,300; or 16.6% of cap) entered the day with a 9.63 K/9 ratio, which was good for 15th in the majors. He is a fantastic FantasyScore option most nights.

Yankees | Michael Pineda to be skipped

Fri, 05 Jun 2015 13:44:09 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda will have his next start skipped in order to preserve his innings for the season. SP CC Sabathia will now go Sunday, June 7, SP Masahiro Tanaka will pitch Tuesday, June 9, and SP Nathan Eovaldi will go Wednesday, June 10. Pineda's next start will come Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) is having a fine season with a 3.33 ERA and 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings over 11 starts. Instead he'll face the Baltimore Orioles in a week and should be a fine starting pitching option on FantasyScore. The way the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have been hitting, Sabathia on Sunday is a pretty big risk not worth taking.

Yankees | Michael Pineda bounces back

Wed, 27 May 2015 13:23:07 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda gave up only one run and six hits while striking out eight and walking one in 6 2/3 innings to beat the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, May 27, after being hit hard in his previous two outings. He now has 67 strikeouts and just five walks on the year, and he's 6-2 with a 3.36 ERA in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($7,800, 15.6% of cap) shut down one of the best teams and offenses in the league Wednesday in the Royals, showing that his resurgence in 2015 is the real deal. His strikeout-to-walk rate is through the roof and is another example that his peripherals should carry him throughout the season. Pineda should continue to be a reliable FantasyScore option.

Yankees | Dubious honor for Michael Pineda

Fri, 15 May 2015 20:43:53 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out one in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Kansas City Royals Friday, May 15, and his one strikeout was the fewest for a pitcher following a game with at least 16 strikeouts in the Wild Card era.

Fantasy Tip: What a difference a start can make. Pineda ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) has shown signs of becoming an ace-caliber starter, but he isn't as reliable as some other high-priced options at FantasyScore. At his price, he should still be avoided against tougher matchups.

Yankees | Michael Pineda has career day

Sun, 10 May 2015 14:33:07 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda had 16 strikeouts and no walks in his start Sunday, May 10, against the Baltimore Orioles. Pineda joins Randy Johnson and Mark Prior as the only pitchers since 2000 to accomplish this feat.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($6,700, 13.4% of cap) is having a phenomenal past couple of weeks. He's bound to cool off, but ride the hot streak while you can. At the very least, Pineda appears to have turned a corner into a quite capable pitcher and is showing promise.

Yankees | Michael Pineda matches career best

Tue, 05 May 2015 22:22:24 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda his career high with eight scoreless innings Tuesday, May 5, against the Toronto Blue Jays. He allowed just five hits while striking out six, capturing a win for the fourth consecutive road start.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($6,700; 13.4% of cap) has emerged as a strong FantasyScore option, and he might just be the very best pitcher on the New York staff.

Yankees | Michael Pineda starting Wednesday

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 09:46:42 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda is making the start against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, April 29, in place of SP Masahiro Tanaka (forearm, wrist), who landed on the 15-day disabled list. Pineda beat the Rays April 19, and he is 2-1 with a 3.23 ERA in five career starts against them. He's also 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA in eight home starts and 9-3 with a 2.58 ERA in 13 career April starts.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) has allowed three runs or less in three of his four starts this year, and he's sporting an ERA of 3.86. He should be considered a strong start today against the Rays, who are around the middle of the pack in most offensive categories in the American League.

Yankees | Michael Pineda shining this spring

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 13:34:03 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda tossed five shutout innings in spring training Friday, March 27, allowing five hits while striking out five and walking none. Pineda threw 62 pitches and lowered his spring ERA to 1.32 in his fourth start.

Fantasy Tip: Pineda was strong in his return to the Yanks last year, going 5-5 with a 1.89 ERA and 0.83 WHIP and 59 strikeouts in 76 1/3 innings over 13 starts. Now that he's fully healthy, Pineda could be in line for a great 2015 season, and he'll come cheap in fantasy drafts.

Yankees | Michael Pineda more comfortable

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 14:19:33 -0700

New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda said he is more comfortable with the team this season, and he has had good spring results since reporting early. Pineda threw two scoreless innings Monday, March 9, giving up a hit and striking out two. SP Ivan Nova said that Pineda arrived in camp last year out of shape, and there is a noticeable difference in his conditioning in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: List Pineda in a group of 2015 starting pitching sleepers after he went 5-5 with a 1.89 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 76 1/3 innings (13 starts) in 2014. Pineda, 26, was a highly-touted prospect with the Seattle Mariners, but it all came undone when he was traded to the Yanks, mainly due to a serious shoulder injury. Now that he's healthy, he's primed to be a great value pick late in drafts.
