Astros | Jon Singleton to stay in minors for time being

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:20:50 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Jon Singleton isn't close to joining the big league club, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow. Singleton went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and home run with Triple-A Oklahoma City Wednesday, April 16, and is batting .358 with a .460 on-base percentage, five home runs and 18 RBIs in 13 games. "We're happy that Singleton is off to a good start," Luhnow said. "He does not have the Triple-A track record that Springer has yet. We feel he needs to develop that track record. We're always going to be in a position where our fans want our top prospects to come up here sooner than we think they're ready to come up here."

Fantasy Tip: Singleton owners were hoping he'd be next after fellow prospect George Springer got the call this week. That won't be the case for now, but Singleton is still worth stashing in mixed leagues, because if he keeps raking like he is now, Houston will find a spot for him sooner rather than later.

Astros | More prospects on the way?

Sun, 21 Jul 2013 20:11:08 -0700

The Houston Astros have promoted prospects SP Jarred Cosart and SS Jonathan Villar recently. Top prospects OF George Springer and 1B Jonathan Singleton remain at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but they are expected to join the Astros during the final 65 games of a season devoted to player development and evaluation.

Fantasy Tip: For now, Springer and Singleton are only worth roster spots in the deepest of long-term fantasy keeper leagues, and they'll be worth adding in AL-only leagues if and when they are summoned.

Astros | Jonathan Singleton on the move

Sun, 16 Jun 2013 18:05:14 -0700

The Houston Astros are set to promote top prospect OF Jonathan Singleton to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Fantasy Tip: Singleton is the team's top hitting prospect, and he was a key member of the trade which sent Hunter Pence (now with the Giants) to the Philadelphia Phillies in the summer of 2011. Singleton is a great long-term keeper prospect, and he might see time in the majors in September.
