Astros | Evan Gattis out of the lineup

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 15:16:38 -0700

Houston Astros C Evan Gattis is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Joe Blanton Monday, June 29. 1B Jon Singleton will serve as the designated hitter and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Gattis ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) likely is receiving the day off and should return soon. Singleton ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has gone 0-for-4 since being called up and is not a great option on FantasyScore at this point.

Astros | Preston Tucker starting in LF

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 08:32:09 -0700

Houston Astros OF Preston Tucker will start in left field and hit seventh in the order Sunday, June 28, against the New York Yankees and RHP Michael Pineda. 1B Jon Singleton comes out of the lineup, 1B Chris Carter will start at first and C Evan Gattis will act as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Tucker ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) hasn't hit a home run since going yard in back-to-back days June 17 and 18. All four of Tucker's home runs this season have come against right-handed pitchers, but he also comes with the risk of posting a zero on FantasyScore, with a difficult matchup against Pineda.

Astros | Jon Singleton in lineup Saturday

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 10:34:25 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Jon Singleton is batting seventh as the designated hitter against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Saturday, June 27. This will be his first appearance at the major league level this season.

Fantasy Tip: In 95 games last year, Singleton ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) demonstrated plenty of pop (13 home runs and 44 RBIs) but also struck out 134 times and hit just .168. He is a high-risk, high-reward FantasyScore option who should be added in all AL-only fantasy baseball leagues, as well as in deep mixed leagues if your team is lacking power.

Astros | Jon Singleton recalled by Houston

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 11:21:35 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Jon Singleton was recalled from Class AAA Fresno Friday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Singleton hit only .168 (52-for-310) last year with 134 strikeouts, but he did manage to knock 13 balls out of the park and drive in 44 runs. He has plenty of power, but a lack of consistent contact was always his downfall. The good news is he had only 63 K's in 264 at-bats for Class AAA Fresno this year while still clubbing 17 home runs. Singleton should be an immediate add in all leagues if you're in need of power, and it likely means Chris Carter ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) or Evan Gattis ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) could lose valuable playing time.

Astros | Jon Singleton nearing a recall?

Thu, 14 May 2015 14:06:24 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Jon Singleton is "making a push to factor into the major league roster," manager A.J. Hinch said Thursday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Singleton was feast or famine at the dish last season during his major league debut. He hit 13 home runs but struck out 134 times over 362 plate appearances and sported an unimpressive .168/.285/.335 slash line. So far this season with Class AAA Fresno (Calif.), he has 25 runs, 11 home runs, 35 RBI with a .274/.386/.632 slash line. Singleton's power potential would be worth adding in all deep mixed and AL-only seasonal leagues.

Astros | Jon Singleton sent down

Wed, 01 Apr 2015 07:06:26 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Jon Singleton was optioned to Triple-A Fresno Wednesday, April 1.

Fantasy Tip: Singleton has plenty of power potential and is worth keeping in the back of your mind for a call-up. Chris Carter ($5,100, 10.2% of your cap) will likely be at first base and is a daily consideration on FantasyScore.

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 20:24:01 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Jon Singleton is mired in an 0-for-10 slump and did not start for the second game in a row Monday, Sept. 15. Singleton is hitting .168 since the All-Star break, and interim manager Tom Lawless believes it is a result of a lack of confidence.
