Updating a previous report, Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester has been scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday, July 30, as a deal appears imminent. SP Brandon Workman will pitch in his place.
Fantasy Tip: There is no official word on where Lester might be going, if he is in fact going. Milwaukee is not believed to be a destination, while Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Seattle have been mentioned as potential landing spots, among others. When it is official, we'll keep you abreast and note the fantasy implications the move carries.

Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester is still listed as the probable pitcher for Wednesday, July 30, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Manager John Farrell said Tuesday, July 29, that SP Brandon Workman will start if Lester is dealt.
Fantasy Tip: Lester is a very risky play for those in daily fantasy leagues, and fantasy leagues in general. It's possible he could be moved between now and 7pm ET Wednesday, or at the very least he part of trade discussions where he is scratched as a precaution. Daily fantasy owners will want to steer clear of him just to be on the safe side.

Boston Red Sox SP Brandon Workman is lined up to make his next start Wednesday, July 30, in case SP Jon Lester is traded by then.
Fantasy Tip: If you're in need of pitching and in an AL-only league, you may want to stash Workman just in case, if you have the room.

Boston Red Sox SP Brandon Workman will pitch Sunday, July 13, for Triple-A Pawtucket.
Fantasy Tip: Jake Peavy is expected to be traded. Workman is a candidate to take his rotation spot and worth considering as a speculative add in AL-only leagues.

The Boston Red Sox recalled SP Rubby De La Rosa from Triple-A Pawtucket Wednesday, July 9, and optioned SP Brandon Workman to Pawtucket in a corresponding move.
Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is making the start tonight against the Chicago White Sox. It'd be a risky move to stream De La Rosa this evening.

Boston Red Sox SP Brandon Workman was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket Tuesday, July 8. "It's not ideal. It's not the news I was hoping to hear after the game," Workman said.

Boston Red Sox SP Brandon Workman returned from a six-game suspension Tuesday, June 24. He threw a simulated game, and manager John Farrell said the plan is for Workman to start Friday, June 27 against the New York Yankees.
Fantasy Tip: Clay Buchholz is slated to return to the rotation Wednesday, and with Workman likely to start Friday, it appears Rubby De La Rosa is the odd man out of the rotation for now.

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said SP Clay Buchholz (knee) will make his next start with the Red Sox but it is not known when the start will be. SPs Brandon Workman or Rubby De La Rosa likely will lose their rotation spot with Buchholz returning.
Fantasy Tip: If we had to guess, Buchholz would take the spot of De La Rosa, since Workman has been a more consistent starter in the rotation. Buchholz should be owned in AL-only leagues, but you probably want to wait a start or two before jumping back in in deep mixed leagues.

Boston Red Sox SP Brandon Workman lost the appeal of his six-game suspension, and he'll start serving his suspension Wednesday, June 18.
Fantasy Tip: Workman will miss one start. Felix Doubront could be activated from the DL to replace him, but Workman has been consistent enough lately that he deserves sticking in the starting rotation.

Boston Red Sox SP Brandon Workman gave up two runs and five hits while striking a season-high seven hitters and walking only two in a no-decision against the Cleveland Indians Sunday, June 15. Workman continues to be consistent after going a career-high 6 2/3 innings against the Baltimore Orioles in his previous start. Workman has made a case to remain in the starting rotation when SPs Clay Buchholz (knee) and Felix Doubront (shoulder) are ready to return. "He's really growing. You see him growing and he feels more comfortable out there throwing his curveball. He throws it in bigger situations. He can bounce it. He can throw it for a strike. He can move it around and change speeds on it and he can also do that with his slider, so it's nice to have more than one weapon to get guys out with," C A.J. Pierzynski said. Workman has allowed three runs or fewer and has pitched at least five innings in all eight of his career starts.
Fantasy Tip: The BoSox could keep Buchholz and Doubront on the rehab trail to delay a decision. If Workman is bumped from the rotation, he's likely to stay on the active roster and work out of the bullpen. For now, keep him on your roster.
