Rangers | Sam Dyson easily converts 19th save

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 14:18:18 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Sam Dyson breezed through the heart of the Chicago Cubs' order on Sunday, July 17, striking out Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Willson Contreras in succession to pick up his 19th save in 21 chances.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to believe Shawn Tolleson kept the closer's job as long as he did; Dyson has been spectacular in the role since taken over in mid-May. The 28-year-old has held the opposition scoreless in 11 of his last 12 appearances, with his meltdown (four runs allowed in a third of an inning) against the New York Yankees on June 29 the lone exception. Short of Texas acquiring a player like Andrew Miller at the deadline, Dyson should be considered a top-10 fantasy closer the rest of the way.

Rangers | Sam Dyson blows save Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 19:31:44 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Sam Dyson (1-2) allowed four runs on three hits and one walk while recording just one out in a loss to the New York Yankees Wednesday, June 29. In addition to receiving the loss, Dyson was also charged with a blown save.

Fantasy Tip: Dyson had gone unscored upon in his previous seven appearances, so his job as the Rangers' closer appears to be safe for now. It was just his second blown save in 18 opportunities this season.

Rangers | Sam Dyson given night off

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 22:25:40 -0700

Texas Rangers RP Sam Dyson was held out of action by manager Jeff Banister on Friday, June 24, to give the closer some extra rest following a day off. The Rangers blew a three-run lead in the ninth and lost, 8-7.

Fantasy Tip: On one hand it makes sense -- Dyson's 39 appearances are tied for the most in baseball -- but Jake Diekman and Matt Bush couldn't finish the job, ending Texas' 24-game winning streak when leading by multiple runs at any point in a game. Still, in the long run this probably strengthens Dyson's hold on the job.
