Rays | Drew Smyly has handled Baltimore

Sat, 25 Jun 2016 21:33:33 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly is scheduled to start the series finale Sunday, June 26, against the Baltimore Orioles. He is 0-3 over his past six starts, but he has a career record of 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA against the Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly is worth using in daily AL-only fantasy formats and as a solid mid-tier sleeper in DFS play.

Rays | Drew Smyly solid in no-decision

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 20:54:23 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly allowed four earned runs, eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Monday, June 20, against the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly hasn't won in six starts, but he has racked up 24 strikeouts over 18 2/3 innings in three outings in the month of June. He is still a solid fantasy option in AL-only leagues despite his poor 2-7 record.

Rays | Drew Smyly strikes out a dozen

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 21:34:49 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly allowed two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, June 15. He walked none and struck out a season-high 12.

Fantasy Tip: This was probably Smyly's best outing since April, when he posted a 2.60 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 41 K's in 34 2/3 innings. The southpaw was wretched in May, so hopefully this gets him going again. His WHIP and strikeout numbers are very strong, but a sub-par ERA and two wins in 13 starts make him more appealing in deeper mixed formats.

Rays | Drew Smyly pushed back

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 11:05:23 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly will have his next start pushed back in order to give him a mental and physical break.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly was a popular breakout candidate for 2016 and had a fine April, but that was also aided by a fortunate BABIP. Since then, his control and strikeouts have faded while he's battled mechanical issues, and his ERA is up to 4.94 after several rough outings in his last three starts. The break might be just what he needs to get back on track.

Rays | Drew Smyly barbequed in K.C.

Tue, 31 May 2016 23:45:56 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly allowed eight runs and 12 hits in just four innings of work in a loss Tuesday, May 31, against the Kansas City Royals. Over his past three starts, all losses, he has allowed 25 hits and 16 earned runs in 16 1/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly started off with some promise, but he slipped to 2-7 with the loss Tuesday and only warrants fantasy consideration in the deepest of AL-only formats for the time being.

Rays | Drew Smyly disappoints vs. Marlins

Thu, 26 May 2016 16:47:56 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly dropped to 2-6 after losing his start Thursday, May 26, versus the Miami Marlins. The left-hander went six innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and one walk, including two homers. He also struck out four.

Fantasy Tip: Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, Justin Bour and even Ichiro Suzuki were all out of the lineup, yet Smyly couldn't take advantage of what should have been a very favorable matchup opposite mostly backup position players. Smyly has been mostly steady thus far, and he's been a help for strikeouts and WHIP, but it seems like he's cooling off after a very solid first month and change to the year.

Rays | Drew Smyly struggles in loss

Sat, 21 May 2016 22:50:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly saw his record drop to 2-5 overall Saturday, May 21, in a 5-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly has been disappointing this season and should be avoided in all formats until he figures out what is wrong, if that ever happens. Smyly's earned run average is 3.54 and he has an ability to throw strikes, but there seems to be something missing.

Rays | Drew Smyly whiffs six in no-decision

Wed, 04 May 2016 20:54:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks with six strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Wednesday, May 4, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly had his shortest outing of the season in this one, but he has rolled up six or more strikeouts in five consecutive outings while posting a 0.78 WHIP overall. He is a must-have in AL-only fantasy leagues, most mixed formats for his strikeout potential and a decent mid-tier DFS option.

Rays | Drew Smyly sharp in win over Yankees

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 13:40:27 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly had little trouble dissecting the New York Yankees on Sunday, April 24, yielding one run and striking out six across seven innings for his first victory of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly has pitched like an ace since getting pounded for five runs in his season debut, and has allowed a total of three earned runs while fanning 28 in 22 innings since. He'll get his second look against the Toronto Blue Jays - the team that roughed him up in his first outing - in his next scheduled start at home on Friday. While he isn't a great option for that game, his strikeout potential makes him worth a start in fantasy.

Rays | Drew Smyly sparkles in no-decision

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:52:23 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly allowed just one hit and two walks over eight scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts in a no-decision Tuesday, April 19, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly has struck out 22 batters over his past two starts, but he continues to search for his first win of the season. The Rays offense has just taken the night off when he has been on the hill, frustrating Smyly and his growing throng of fantasy owners.
