The Tampa Bay Rays acquired SP Drew Smyly and SS Nick Franklin from the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners, respectively, as part of a three-way deal involving SP David Price and OF Austin Jackson.
Fantasy Tip: Smyly remains a low-end starter in mixed league. The Rays' offense lacks the punch of Detroit's, but Tampa Bay has been rolling of late. His value takes a minor hit. Franklin is of interest in deep AL-only formats, if he gets recalled, otherwise he should be considered in keeper/dynasty formats only.

The Seattle Mariners acquired OF Austin Jackson from the Detroit Tigers, as part of a three-way deal involving SP David Price and SP Drew Smyly. The Mariners are sending SS Nick Franklin to the Tampa Bay Rays in the deal.
Fantasy Tip: Jackson's fantasy stock takes a bit of a hit, but he has been scorching hot in July. Hopefully, the relocation won't interfere with his recent surge. Rajai Davis will take over the center field job in Detroit, which increases his fantasy value significantly. The already crowded Mariners outfield adds another body. James Jones' playing time and fantasy value will take the biggest hit.

The Detroit Tigers have acquired SP David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays for SP Drew Smyly, as part of a three-way deal involving the Seattle Mariners.
Fantasy Tip: Price's relocation to one of baseball's top offensive teams is an upgrade to his already elite fantasy stock. The opposite applies to Smyly, although the Rays have been on a tear lately. Smyly remains a low-end pitcher in mixed formats.

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (finger) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a laceration on his right middle finger. SP Drew Smyly will return from the bullpen to take his spot. The Tigers have two days off next week and won't need a fifth starter until May 6.
Fantasy Tip: If Smyly was dropped in your league, scoop him up. Sanchez should only miss a couple of starts if he doesn't need a rehab outing before returning.

The Detroit Tigers traded SP Doug Fister to the Washington Nationals Monday, Dec. 2, in exchange for 2B Steve Lombardozzi, SP Ian Krol and P Robbie Ray. SP Drew Smyly will move into the rotation in Detroit to replace Fister. Ray is expected to start next year in the minor leagues. Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said dealing Fister had nothing to do with the hopes that they can sign SP Max Scherzer to a long-term contract before he becomes a free agent. Lombardozzi will serve as a utility infielder for the Tigers.
