Rays | Drew Smyly solid in debut

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 19:32:57 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five in 4 2/3 innings against the Toronto Blue Jays in his first start of the year Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) threw 79 pitches and ended up with a no-decision, but he looked solid in his first start. That being said, it's not a bad idea to let Smyly have another start under his belt before deciding you can trust him at FantasyScore.

Rays | Drew Smyly will be limited vs. Jays

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:44:07 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) is expected to be limited to 85 pitches in his start against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) was a popular breakout candidate in the preseason, and he should have a solid year for his seasonal owners. However, it would be wise to avoid him in all fantasy formats Friday, especially with the news of a pitch count.

Rays | Drew Smyly to start Friday

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 12:28:46 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) is scheduled to be the starting pitcher against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) will have a tough matchup for his first start of the season since the Blue Jays lead MLB in runs scored. Owners on FantasyScore may want to see him pitch in a game or two before using him in their lineup.

Rays | Drew Smyly to debut Friday?

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 13:44:02 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) said he is "definitely" ready to make his 2015 season debut, and he's likely to pitch Friday, April 24. However, nothing is official yet.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) could be a nice fantasy pitching asset in the long run in 2015, but it's hard to put too much trust in him right off the bat, especially at FantasyScore. Look to avoid him. In standard leagues, Smyly could be available off the waiver wire. If he is, look to acquire him immediately.

Rays | Drew Smyly could return this week

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 06:15:59 -0700

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) allowed one hit and three walks with four strikeouts in 3 2/3 shutout innings in his third rehab start over the weekend. He threw 68 pitches in the outing at Double-A Jacksonville, and will be re-evaluated Monday, April 20, to determine whether he needs another rehab start.

Fantasy Tip: He was originally projected to return April 29, but he could return later this week if the team is satisfied with his progress. At $6,200 (12.4% of your cap), it's tough to drop that much of your FantasyScore cap on his first start of the season.

Rays | Drew Smyly a couple weeks away

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 08:35:53 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) is likely to make his season debut April 29 against the New York Yankees. The team wants to stretch him out to 100 pitches before recalling him from his rehab assignment. He threw 40 pitches in a rehab game at Double-A Montgomery Tuesday, April 14, and threw 12 more in the bullpen afterwards. His next rehab start will be Sunday, April 19, at Double-A.

Fantasy Tip: You should probably give Smyly ($6,200, 12.4% of your cap) a start or two before considering him on FantasyScore.

Rays | Drew Smyly heads to Double-A

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 13:43:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) will head to Double-A Montgomery for another rehab start Sunday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) is heading up the ladder as he recovers from shoulder surgery, but he may not be 100 percent until the end of April or the beginning of May. Avoid putting him in until he's been in the MLB lineup a couple of times.

Rays | Drew Smyly to rehab Tuesday

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 11:38:31 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) will make his second rehab outing for Single-A Charlotte Tuesday, April 14.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) could figure into the Rays rotation in early May, and he'll be a mid-tier starting pitching option at FantasyScore. However, you'll likely want to stay away from him in at least his first major league start in 2015.

Rays | Drew Smyly looking at four rehab starts

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 06:49:59 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) could return after being stretched out to 75 pitches, according to manager Kevin Cash. Smyly will throw 35 pitches in his first rehab start Thursday, April 9, and could reach 75 after four starts.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly has a lot of upside and would be a good mid-tier starter on FantasyScore upon return. That return could come at the end of the month.

Rays | Drew Smyly to pitch Thursday

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 10:18:45 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Drew Smyly (shoulder) will make his first rehab start for Single-A Charlotte Thursday, April 9.

Fantasy Tip: Smyly ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) could be back in the Rays rotation by the end of April if everything goes right. Stash him in a DL spot for now in standard leagues. It'll probably be wise to hold off on using him at FantasyScore until at least May, though.
