Mariners | SEA gets calls for Hisashi Iwakuma

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 22:06:21 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma has been garnering plenty of interest, as the team has heard from several teams. The Mariners have yet to commit firmly to trading Iwakuma.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,800, 11.6% of cap) is tentatively set to take the ball Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but FantasyScore players will want to be very careful to make sure he is not a late scratch.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma cruising

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 15:33:08 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma allowed five hits, two runs and zero walks Saturday, July 18, against the New York Yankees. Iwakuma struck out five hitters in his third start since returning from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has posted back-to-back strong outings after getting roughed up in his first game back. Iwakuma will be a risky play in his next start Thursday, July 23, against the Detroit Tigers.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma has strong Saturday

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 04:33:54 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma was strong in his second start since returning from a lat injury. Iwakuma gave up three hits and two walks and struck out six in a 5-0 shutout of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Saturday, July 11.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has rebounded nicely from his long stint on the disabled list and may be over the hump in his recovery process. To shut down a lineup that includes the likes of Mike Trout and Albert Pujols is pretty impressive. Take the reins off of Iwakuma and play him in FantasyScore.

Mariners | Teams interested in Hisashi Iwakuma

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 18:51:31 -0700

Scouts from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays and Washington Nationals were on hand to watch Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma during his start against the Detroit Tigers Monday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) was making his first start after being activated from the disabled list and he allowed four home runs. He is 0-4 with a 7.17 ERA through four starts this season and is a very risky play in FantasyScore for his next start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Saturday, July 11.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma with no limits

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 08:39:56 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma won't have any restrictions in his start Monday, July 6, against the Detroit Tigers.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has a so-so matchup, but the Tigers are without Miguel Cabrera (calf). Kuma's price isn't too shabby if you're comfortable with the matchup on FantasyScore.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma set to return

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 19:07:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list and start against the Detroit Tigers Monday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) hasnít pitched since April 24, and considering he wasn't pitching well prior to his injury, you can definitely afford to take a wait-and-see approach with him at FantasyScore.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma's return looming

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 15:58:26 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma (lat) will throw six innings or 90 pitches in his third rehab start for Class AAA Tacoma Tuesday, June 30. That'll line him up to come off the disabled list and start against the Oakland Athletics Sunday, July 5, but there isn't an obvious opening in the starting rotation right now. SPs Mike Montgomery or Roenis Elias could be sent back to the minors, SP J.A. Happ could move to the bullpen or the team could go to a six-man rotation. Sunday would be Montgomery's turn, but he has a 2.04 ERA in five starts since June 2. Elias has been hit hard his last two starts, raising his ERA from 2.79 to 4.35. If Elias struggles against the A's Thursday, July 2, he could be the odd-man out. Happ is 0-4 with five no-decisions in his last nine starts despite not allowing more than four runs in those games. Seattle could also delay a decision on Iwakuma by keeping him on his rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) will join the rotation eventually, so you should check to see if he's available in deep mixed leagues. Iwakuma is a risky FantasyScore option Sunday if he returns to face the A's, and he could be on a pitch count in his first start back.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma close to returning

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 15:46:20 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma (lat) is expected to make one more rehab start for Class AAA Tacoma before he is re-evaluated.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma's ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) final rehab start will come Tuesday. He last started April 20, so fantasy owners have plenty of reasons to be skeptical that Iwakuma will return to form right away in his return to the rotation. Put him on your radar in deep mixed leagues but shy away from him at least in his first start back on FantasyScore, whenever that may be.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma set for rehab start

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 23:33:55 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma (lat) will have his second rehab start Thursday, June 25, at Class AAA Tacoma. He is expected to throw between 70 and 75 pitches. Iwakuma likely will have one more before the club considers his next step.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) will likely be brought along slowly because the Mariners pitching staff actually is doing quite well. Still, the Mariners want him back in as soon as possible, so keep an eye on his progress. Two more good rehab starts could result in an activation.

Mariners | Hisashi Iwakuma strong in rehab start

Sun, 21 Jun 2015 05:18:32 -0700

Seattle Mariners SP Hisashi Iwakuma (lat) allowed three hits and one run while pitching 3 2/3 innings Saturday, June 20, in a rehab start for Class A Everett.

Fantasy Tip: Iwakuma ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) should be stashed everywhere in preparation for his arrival to the major leagues. It shouldn't take long for Iwakuma to normalize his poor numbers from his three starts earlier this season.
