Rangers | Yu Darvish feeling no pain

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 09:11:19 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) has been throwing for a week since having Tommy John Surgery in spring training. Things are progressing positively without any setbacks and "no pain whatsoever" says Darvish.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish could be ready for opening day, but we expect him to start the season on the disabled list to manage his innings. He should fall in drafts, as all pitchers returning from Tommy John surgery do, but he could be a draft-day value as long as you realize that he will be handled cautiously and will be working with an innings limit.

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 14:17:53 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish's (elbow) throwing program has progressed to throwing from 60 feet three times a week.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish is a stash candidate in all keeper and dynasty leagues. You'll want to monitor his progress during the offseason to gauge his return timeline, and in turn, determine his fantasy value for the 2016 season. Continue to check back for updates.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish is a sure-fire stash candidate in keeper fantasy leagues, as he could be ready for the start of the 2016 regular season.

Rangers | Yu Darvish resumes throwing

Mon, 17 Aug 2015 15:10:52 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) threw 25 times from 40 feet Monday, Aug. 17, which was the first time he has thrown since undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish is worth stashing in keeper leagues, and shouldn't miss much time, if any next season. Continue to monitor his progress this winter and leading into the 2016 season.

Rangers | Yu Darvish to be examined this week

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 20:39:33 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) is expected to be examined by a team doctor this week, and he might be cleared for a throwing program. He is coming up to the five-month point in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players need not bother with Darvish this season, but it is a good sign for those in long-term keeper formats that Darvish is making strides in his recovery.

Rangers | Yu Darvish to have checkup

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 15:18:59 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) will receive a checkup this week and could resume a throwing program five months after his Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: It might be a stretch to assume that Darvish will be ready to go for the start of the regular season next year. If that's the case, he could be a nice bargain on draft day next spring. Keep tabs on his progress this winter.

Rangers | Yu Darvish has TJS

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 14:03:04 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday, March 17. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews, and he replaced the ligament in Darvish's elbow with the Palmaris tendon from his right forearm. Darvish's right arm will be in a sling for seven to 10 days, and then he'll move to a brace. He'll start his rehab in the next few days and is expected to do rehab work in Texas during the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish will miss the entire 2015 season, and he may struggled to return in time for opening day in 2016. That could make him a draft bargain next year, however. In Darvish's absence, Ross Detwiler may now be a front-runner for a rotation spot. Only consider drafting Detwiler in deep AL-only formats.

Rangers | Tommy John surgery set for Yu Darvish

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 12:29:32 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Tuesday, March 17.

Fantasy Tip: In seasonal formats, you can cross Darvish off your draft lists. He is an interesting stash candidate in dynasty/keeper formats, though, and the viability of holding him for the 2015 season will largely depend on your league's roster settings. Ross Detwiler appears to be a lock for the rotation now, but at this point, he should be viewed as a late-round option in AL-only formats and cavernous mixed leagues.

Rangers | Surgery recommended for Yu Darvish

Wed, 11 Mar 2015 09:58:39 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) has been recommended to have Tommy John surgery by Dr. David Altchek, according to general manager Jon Daniels. All signs are pointing to surgery for Darvish next week, but the team will send his MRI exams to Dr. James Andrews first for a third opinion. Darvish understands that surgery is better sooner than later, and a final decision will be made at the end of the week.

Fantasy Tip: The news we were all expecting is close to becoming final. If you already had your fantasy baseball draft and took Darvish, this is a tough blow before the season officially kicks off. If you've yet to draft, make sure to eliminate Darvish from your fantasy cheatsheets. He could struggle to make it back before the start of the 2016 season, too, which could make him undervalued next season.

Rangers | Yu Darvish news coming Wednesday

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 10:20:49 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) will have an announcement on the condition of his right elbow Wednesday, March 11, according to assistant general manager Thad Levine. Darvish is dealing with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and could need Tommy John surgery. Darvish had a second opinion with Dr. David Altcheck Monday, March 9, and will be re-evaluated Tuesday, March 10. The team is estimating that he won't be able to throw for six weeks, even if surgery isn't required.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish is likely to need TJS, which would put him out for all of 2015 and might make him a candidate to be behind in spring training next season. For now, it's probably wise to avoid Darvish entirely in fantasy baseball drafts until we get word on his status Wednesday. Even if he doesn't need surgery, Darvish probably wouldn't be of much use in 2015.
