Rangers | Yu Darvish on pitch count

Tue, 24 May 2016 18:15:05 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) hopefully will throw 85 to 90 pitches in his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, May 28, according to pitching coach Doug Brocail. Brocail said Darvish's pitch count will depend on how he looks during the game. He was able to throw 87 pitches in his final rehab start.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish will be making his first start for the Rangers since 2014, and the team likely will be cautious with him. He will be facing the Pirates, which makes him a risky option in daily fantasy leagues. Darvish should be added to starting lineup in all mixed leagues because of his previous success.

Rangers | Yu Darvish should debut next weekend

Sat, 21 May 2016 19:18:19 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) will make his season debut Saturday, May 28, as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks in the meantime.

Fantasy Tip: Some rust wouldn't be out of the question, but he has enough upside to start in season-long formats in his return from Tommy John surgery.

Rangers | Yu Darvish to make another rehab start

Wed, 18 May 2016 17:58:25 -0700

Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) is set to make his fifth rehab start for Class AA Frisco Sunday, May 22, and he's scheduled for six innings or 90 pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Unless he suffers a setback, this will likely be Darvish's last rehab start before he makes his season debut with the Rangers. The Japanese righty should be stashed in all formats and can return ace numbers for owners immediately, although you should keep expectations in check initially.

Rangers | Yu Darvish in play for Sunday

Wed, 18 May 2016 10:07:38 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) could possibly make his first start of the season Sunday, May 22, against the Houston Astros. SP Derek Holland is the probable starter for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Holland has struggled, and the team could bump him from the rotation or bump Saturday's starter Cesar Ramos and put Holland there. Darvish is a fantasy ace and should be activated whenever he's ready. As for Holland and Ramos, they're AL-only depth at this point.

Rangers | Yu Darvish makes rehab start

Tue, 17 May 2016 11:12:35 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) allowed an unearned run and struck out six while throwing 68 pitches in five innings for Class AA Midland Tuesday, May 17.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish is nearing a return in his rehab from Tommy John surgery, and he's expected to rejoin Texas' starting rotation by the end of this month. He should've been stashed everywhere all along. Darvish, in his three seasons in the bigs, has had a K/9 above 10.0 in all three years. He's a fantasy ace.

Rangers | Yu Darvish makes another rehab start

Fri, 13 May 2016 09:01:19 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (elbow) was in the mid-90s with his fastball during his third rehab start for Class AAA Round Rock Thursday, May 12. Darvish also worked on his offspeed pitches in his four-inning outing in which he threw 31 of his 54 pitches for strikes. Darvish allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out four and walking two. He could return to the starting rotation by the end of this month.

Fantasy Tip: Darvish has looked good in his recovery from Tommy John surgery and should remain stashed in all leagues because of his ability to be a fantasy ace. He could have his ups and downs initially if he struggles with control, but a career 11.2 strikeout-per-nine-inning rate and 3.27 career ERA show you that he can make a difference for your staff the rest of the way after he returns.

Tue, 03 May 2016 11:43:15 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Darvish is on schedule to make another rehab start this Friday in the minors. He's slated to return later this month if he doesn't have any setbacks in his return from Tommy John surgery. He should remain stashed in all fantasy leagues, as he has the ability to pitch like a fantasy ace upon his return.

Rangers | Texas to use six-man rotation?

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 17:18:46 -0700

Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister is considering using a six-man rotation when SP Yu Darvish (elbow) is activated from the disabled list. If all goes well with his rehab, Darvish could return to action in late May, and the Rangers will play 43 games in a 45-day stretch between May 27 and July 10.

Fantasy Tip: None of the Rangers' current starters has pitched poorly enough to be demoted to the bullpen and Banister is also taking each pitcher's recent injury history into account when it comes to a possible six-man rotation. Darvish, along with SPs Martin Perez and A.J. Griffin, have each undergone Tommy John surgery in the last three years, while SP Derek Holland missed most of the previous two seasons due to various injuries and SP Cole Hamels has battled a recent hamstring issue. A six-man rotation would negatively impact owners of Texas starters in seasonal leagues due to the slim chances of any pitcher receiving two starts in the same week.
