Brewers | Wily Peralta gets on track

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 14:33:40 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta contributed his best start of the young season Tuesday, April 19, against the Minnesota Twins. He fired five innings of two-run ball, scattering five hits and four walks while striking out two.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't anything special, especially with how many baserunners Peralta housed, but considering how he looked in his first three starts, today's outing was a step in the right direction. Even so, Peralta's ERA currently stands at 8.35 and he'll have to show more if he is to merit any consideration for fantasy teams. Leave him on the wire for now.

Brewers | Wily Peralta to start opener

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 10:14:17 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta has been named the team's opening day starter, according to manager Craig Counsell.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta is more of a ground-ball pitcher, but his 2015 season was interrupted by an injury that compromised his skills on the bump. Better results could be in store, but Peralta profiles as a back-of-the-rotation starters for most other squads, and he's at best a late-round flyer in deep mixed leagues for rotation depth.

Angels | Daniel Nava leaves after HBP

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 14:41:50 -0700

Los Angeles Angels OF Daniel Nava (head) was hit in the helmet by a pitch from Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta on Saturday, March 19. Nava eventually walked to first base under his own power before he was replaced by Rafael Ortega.

Fantasy Tip: Nava, who is 14-for-26 with seven RBI this spring, will almost certainly be checked for a concussion. Unless he can continue swinging a hot bat this spring and parlay that into more playing time, the 33-year-old switch-hitter appears to stuck in a committee with Todd Cunningham and Craig Gentry, reducing him to an occasional bargain-bin DFS option.

Brewers | Wily Peralta bounced around

Mon, 14 Mar 2016 23:49:58 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta allowed six runs, a walk and a wild pitch in his Cactus League spring game Monday, March 14, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, he was able to finish strong and strike out four of the final five batters he faced.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta was pleased with his outing, and he apparently was working on his sinkerball more. Veterans tend to tinker and try new things in the spring, so stats can be mostly dismissed. Still, Peralta is best used in only deeper NL fantasy formats due to his inconsistency.

Brewers | Three Brewers sign deals

Fri, 15 Jan 2016 11:04:48 -0800

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta, SS Jean Segura and RP Will Smith avoided arbitration by signing one-year deals Friday, Jan. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta had a miserable season, but he still has a lot of potential as an NL-only starter. Segura quietly had 50 RBIs and 25 steals. He's an upper-middle SS option that could be undervalued. Smith was dynamite in relief and could figure into the closing mix in camp. Keep an eye on the lefty.

Brewers | Wily Peralta shut down for 2015

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 15:46:13 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta (oblique) has been shut down for the remainder of the season due to the recurrance of an oblique strain, the team announced Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has had a forgettable season, and while the 26-year-old righty has flashed upside and put together a solid 2014 season (17 wins and 3.53 ERA), he enters 2016 as a low-end flier for the endgame of drafts. Tyler Wagner will start against the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday, Sept. 26, in place of Peralta. Wagner is nothing more than a desperation start in all fantasy formats.

Reds | Jay Bruce out for Game 2 Saturday

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 14:11:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, Sept. 5. 3B Adam Duvall is in left field and OF Ryan LaMarre is in center, and OF Jason Bourgeois is manning right field against Brewers SP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is merely sitting because it is the second game of a doubleheader. Both Duvall and LaMarre are September callups who have not extablished much FantasyScore value as of yet.

Reds | Todd Frazier not starting Game 2 Saturday

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 14:00:07 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 3B Todd Frazier is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the doubleheader with the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, Sept. 5. 2B Ivan De Jesus is at third base and batting second against Brewers SP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: Frazier ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) is earning a rest from starting both games of the doubleheader. DeJesus ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) carries no fantasy value so keep him benched.

Brewers | Wily Peralta shaky in win

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 18:33:08 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta (4-7) allowed six runs on nine hits over five innings in a victory over the Miami Marlins Wednesday, Aug. 19, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This outing marked the second time in the last four starts where Peralta ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has given up six runs. He will make his next start against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, Aug. 26, but his inconsistency makes him a weak FantasyScore option.

Brewers | Wily Peralta struggling since return

Thu, 13 Aug 2015 16:51:47 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta is 1-2 with a 6.06 ERA since returning from the disabled list late last month. He will be facing the Philadelphia Phillies Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: A matchup with the Phillies could be just what Peralta ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) needs to get back on track. Philadelphia has been pretty bad against right-handers all year, but they've been surprisingly good since the All-Star break. Peralta has been too shaky to trust in daily formats.
