Phillies | Cesar Hernandez playing third base

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 12:47:37 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies INF Cesar Hernandez will bat leadoff and play third base against San Diego Padres SP Colin Rea Saturday, Aug. 29. 3B Andres Blanco is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) has cooled off considerably recently. He is just 3-for-25 over the last seven days and should be avoided in FantasyScore tonight.

Phillies | Cesar Hernandez receiving a breather

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 11:34:31 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Cesar Hernandez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 26. SS Darnell Sweeney is starting at second base and hitting leadoff against New York Mets SP Bartolo Colon.

Fantasy Tip: The switch-hitting Sweeney ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has an intriguing mix of speed and power, and he had nine home runs and 32 stolen bases in the minors for the Dodgers before coming over in the Chase Utley trade. Hitting leadoff is great for his daily value, and Colon has struggled mightily on the road. Consider Sweeney a great choice as a deep sleeper on FantasyScore today.

Phillies | Maikel Franco still out Tuesday

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 12:18:06 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) will miss his fifth straight game Tuesday, Aug. 18, due to a wrist injury. 3B Cesar Hernandez is batting second in the lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Franco ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) was thought to be back early this week, but apparently he still needs a little work. Hernandez ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) carries little FantasyScore value with a weak batting average of .176 over the last seven days.

Phillies | Chase Utley not playing

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 10:45:23 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley is not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Taylor Jungmann Sunday, Aug. 16. 2B Cesar Hernandez will start at second base and is batting first in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Utley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return in the near future. Hernandez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has eight hits and three RBI in his last six games and could be a solid starting option for owners.

Phillies | Cesar Hernandez playing third base

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 12:10:55 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Saturday, Aug. 15. INF Cesar Hernandez will play the hot corner and bat second.

Fantasy Tip: Consider Franco ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) day-to-day, since the injury is not believed to be serious enough to require a stint on the disabled list. Hernandez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is batting .326 during the month of August and is 2-for-3 with an RBI in his career against Nelson, making him an attractive option for FantasyScore owners in search of a productive infielder at a cap-friendly price.

Phillies | No Maikel Franco vs. Brew Crew

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 14:18:30 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco (wrist) continues to sit out Friday, Aug. 14. 2B Cesar Hernandez is starting at third base and is hitting second against Milwaukee Brewers SP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: Franco's injury isn't serious, so he could be back in the lineup at some point this weekend. Hernandez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has quietly excelled for the lowly Phillies and is a fine value pick on FantasyScore against Peralta, who has been inconsistent since his return from the DL. Hernandez's main asset is his speed atop the Philly lineup.

Phillies | Chase Utley out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 12:40:38 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley is not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner Sunday, Aug. 9. INF Cesar Hernandez will start at second base, with SS Freddy Galvis playing shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Utley's ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) absence from the lineup is not surprising, since manager Pete Mackanin mentioned recently that he would not play every day. Galvis ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is only batting .211 this month and is hitless in seven career at-bats against Cashner, while Hernandez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is hitting .357 during August.

Phillies | Chase Utley leading off vs. Friars

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 15:55:36 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (ankle) is playing second base and batting first against San Diego Padres SP James Shields Friday, Aug. 7. 2B Cesar Hernandez is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Hernandez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday, and Utley ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) isn't a plus-play, either. Utley was only batting .179 with four home runs and 25 RBI over 65 games prior to landing on the disabled list, and he hasn't played since Monday, June 22.

Phillies | Chase Utley to be limited

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 16:31:23 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (ankle) will be limited upon his return to the lineup Friday, Aug. 7. Interim manager Pete Mackanin said Thursday, Aug. 6, "I'm going to do as much as I can to try to get [Utley] in there four days a week." 2B Cesar Hernandez will likely shift to shortstop or third base, and SS Freddy Galvis could see starts in the outfield.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is the most fantasy-relevant player of the three, with a .323 batting average, nine doubles, two triples and 15 RBI in 40 games since June 17. Hernandez is a strong FantasyScore option against left-handed pitching.

Phillies | Cesar Hernandez shifting to utility role

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 14:25:09 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies 2B Cesar Hernandez is going to shift around the infield to receive consistent playing time when 2B Chase Utley (ankle) returns from the disabled list Friday, Aug. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Hernandez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) is an up-and-coming speedster with solid contact skills who holds plenty of seasonal value in that regard. He'll receive a slight value hit with Utley's ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) return, but Hernadez should still grab enough at-bats to tilt the fantasy scales in deep leagues.
