Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley (knee) will get a second opinion on his knee Friday, Oct. 31, or early next week. The belief is Fairley will not need surgery, and will be out about a month.

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley (knee) isn't certain to return this season, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Fairley is dealing with a sprained knee, but there is hope that he can return in four to five weeks. Fairley had to be helped off the field in Week 8, and he was placed on a cart and taken to the locker room. He had 14 tackles and a sack through eight games.

Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley (knee) suffered a knee injury during the team's 22-21 win over the Atlanta Falcons, and coach Jim Caldwell is not optimistic about his status. "I'm not quite certain where he is right now," Caldwell said after the game. "But obviously, when you're carried off the field, it's not the greatest news. We'll see what the doctors say about him." Caldwell did not speculate if he thought the injury could be season-ending.

Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley has reportedly added 10 pounds to his frame since the start of training camp, which has led to his demotion in favor of DT C.J. Mosley. The Lions declined to pick up Fairley's 2015 option earlier this year as a way to motivate him to show up this offseason in better shape. Mosley has looked exceptional at times with the first-team, and he rededicated himself to eating cleaner and sleeping longer in the offseason.
